like they became close friends in just a few short weeks and then spent 2 years together looking for bucky and at no point did sam give up, he did that all for steve. he didn't know bucky personally, that dude had taken his damn steering wheel, ripped his wings, nearly killed natasha, steve, and basically him, but he still looked for a guy who was dead for all they knew or who would get executed - just because steve believed. people always refer to tony as steve's best friend apart from bucky, but i disagree. maybe civil war made them seem closer than they are. sam and steve were best friends, steve and tony were more like a difficult friendship that's never been easy, not from the moment they met, one that's constantly hanging on a string.
just love how sam and steve are always there for eachother, neither of them ever gave up, and sam's dedication to steve doesn't look like some fanboy in over his head, it's just a dude who loves his friend. i feel like HE was the only one who really saw steve for who he is outside of bucky, who got to know the real man behind the shield.

i do also really like stony in any way, i feel like it's a fantastic dynamic that allows you to study steve and tony, you put these two people at constant odds with eachother and have to figure out how to make them work in some messy discordant way

This post took me a ridiculously long time of fighting with tumblr so I really hope someone enjoys it.
Alright look. I’ve thought about this for a while scrolling the tumblr and seeing all the TWS and CW gay posting. But then the topic came up on a Stucky server and I decided I needed to put all my thoughts in one place and here we are.
The Winter Soldier is generally seen as THE Stucky movie, closely followed by CW. And I get it. I do. But like. Are we really going to overlook the amount of gay in TFA???? Not to mention TFA is what sets up this century-long relationship??
Let’s get into it.
1. The double date that Bucky drags Steve on. I’m sure we’ve all seen the meme by now, right? How the girls were holding hands and the joke that they were going on double dates, but not in the way Steve thinks? Y’all. Watch it. It holds some water. At the expo when Stark shows off his flying car, the girls are clutching hands and Bucky turns to look at Steve. He’s paying attention to Steve, not either of the girls. Also, you can barely even tell which girl is supposed to be on a date with which guy. Probably the only indicator is awkward Steve shoving popcorn in the girl’s face. And after all that where Steve ditches them to try and enlist again, they are perfectly happy to share Bucky. IDK about you or real-life 40s girls, but if I was expecting to go out with a guy and my friend go out with his friend I wouldn’t be super stoked about sharing him? But they seem perfectly giddy to just accept going dancing with just Bucky. Like maybe neither are actually interested in dating him and are more interesting in just having fun going out in public? Like possibly to an underground queer place where they can all be themselves. Please see this post for evidence.
2. THE GODDAMN BUCKY RESCUE MISSION. Literally, Steve hears “107th” and that there’s no plan to even try to go after them with ZERO INDICATION THAT BUCKY IS EVEN ALIVE and decides that he’s going to take his untested new body for a spin with absolutely no fucking plan besides get there, beat some people up, find Bucky. Star spangled man with a plan MY ASS.
3. When he does get to Bucky the way Bucky says “Steve” when he realizes it’s him and HE SMILES. Poor dude’s been tortured and is strapped to a table and out of it and says Steve’s name like it’s both the prayer and the answer. And when Steve gets him up and goes to touch his face before pulling his hand back. See this post for gifs of that whole scene.

5. There is nothing about the way that Bucky says "let's hear it for Captain America!" that is either friendly or heterosexual. Look at his face. Look at the way he looks Steve up and down. Look at the conflicted emotions. LISTEN TO THE TONE OF HIS VOICE. Here's the video for the full experience.
6. THE ENTIRE GODDAMN BAR SCENE?! I will break it up into three parts though because it deserves it. Here is the video to follow along though. My first point is, "hell no. That little guy from Brooklyn that was too dumb not to run away from a fight. I'm following him." First of all, LOOK AT THE WAY THEY LOOK AT EACH OTHER. Second, Bucky is very clear that he's not here for Captain America, but that he's here for Steve. The same Steve he's always supported. Also bonus gif of footage that was from shooting this scene, but was not in the movie and is adorable.
7.... Please explain to me what about this is hetero... I'll wait... Full gifset here.
8. When Peggy walks in. Bucky looks at her, but he doesn't really eye her until he looks at Steve and sees him looking at her. And then he looks like a kicked puppy when he sees Steve only has eyes for Peggy. I 100% believe that his comment about being invisible is not about being invisible to Peggy next to Steve, but about being invisible to Steve next to Peggy.
9. Another post we’ve all seen here by now is the one in which Steve starts the movie saying he doesn’t want to kill anyone, but after Bucky falls from the train it becomes, “I won’t stop until all of Hydra is dead or captured.” Platonic MY LEFT FUCKING ARM. See post here.
10. For my final point, I’ve said this before, but STEVE DIDN’T HAVE TO CRASH THE PLANE. (CW: suicide mention)
This was suicide in Bucky grief framed as heroic sacrifice. I wrote in this post the other day about the Avengers all being self-sacrificing idiots.
Alright my friend, you left a comment in the tags about the song which wasn't even something I've gone into so I had to look it up i came across this lovely helpful post from 2015 that both details the song and talks about the theory of Bucky’s feelings in the bar scene and goes a little more into the subtlties of his reaction (see: clenched jaw and balled fists)

okay okay, I know every Stucky shipper is familiar with this scene, but I’ve decided to investigate in furthur detail.
So the singing stops as Peggy walks in, looking as gorgeous as ever, eyes only for Steve
Bucky’s immediate reaction is a clenched jaw
and a balled fist.
I’m not saying he’s jealous or anything but of course he’s fucking jealous.
At first glance, people may think that Bucky is jealous that Peggy isn’t paying attention to him, but I don’t think so.
Peggy proceeds to talk to Steve and
need I say any more about this?
At the end of the scene, Bucky makes a “joke” which I think was meant to disguise what he was really feeling. When Steve turns away, he makes this face:
And to finish up, I’d like to talk about the song that was playing right before Peggy walked in: “There is a Tavern in the Town” (thanks to brxkenbucky I was able to look into this). Now I know it’s difficult to hear the song in the scene, but if you look up the lyrics you’ll see that some of them are:
“He left me for a damsel dark, damsel dark // each Friday night they used to spark, used to spark // and now my love who once was true to me // takes this dark damsel on his knee”
Very fitting, right? And remember that songs played in movies are chosen specifically to suit the scene. Everything is intentional, just like every reaction and facial expression.

im sure we've all heard of he can't handle the cold, but also
the uniform is very tight and probably hot, bucky might get stressed if skin tight
here's some snippet i saw in a reddit post, a real veteran who had anxiety when they couldn't get a drink of water because it reminded of them of having to ration tiny portions of water wherein the supply truck could also be blown up anytime. something like this with bucky
bucky develops a "grounding" item that remembers he is absolutley not in hydra's command because they wouldn't let him have this. like a cute bracelet on his arm (sam and natasha totally made it) (in fact even better all 4 have matching ones)
can't sleep in the dark or when it's completely silent, too much to think about, immediate panic attack ensues
usually sleeps with a tv on playing background noise, he'll choose a random movie or nature documentary and leave it on all night.
doesn't sleep on his left side as the weight pressing onto the metal arm/shoulder scars hurts
when it's hot, he likes to sleep on the floor with a thin blanket. (like in fatws, and he's practically naked in that, which is what leads to my assumption) he has to explain it's not from hydra, remind people he was in ww2
also, the soft feeling of a bed can feel like sinking in a bad way
i see a lot of fanfictions where they taught him to sleep on the floor but i feel like he'd just have this shitty cot, floor was for when he was in a cell in the 1940's
he has enhanced supersoldier senses and hyperviligance, so he notices everything, spooks easily (heart rate increasing) and is a very light sleeper, immediately springing to action.
doesn't like having any windows or doors open due to fear of break in (he is working on paranoia, but its hard when he has genuine good reason for being hunted)
hates crowded places, as you can imagine quite inconvenient for living in nyc
has a twitch where he'll flex his hand, this is born from flexing it from stress and doing it so often it happens subconsciously. happens to both arms but moreso the right one
has a lot of weird unexplained chronic pain, like a lot of trauma survivors
the weight of the metal arm also causes chronic pain, tony eventually builds him a new, lighter one (,; ⩌ ;,) (contributed by it's also very hard walking around with a huge commie star on the arm)
sometimes when he flinches, it's like a horse when their body twitches aggressively to get rid of flies
shakes his head when his hair is in his face as a reminiscent from hydra, where they would get frustrated/ he would be too in fear to "fix" the hair in his face in the wind every 5 seconds with his hands and he couldn't blow it away with the mask but he could shake it away
hates any pressure on his face. glasses, soft masks, hell no. even swimming can feel weird and crushing
doesn't know how to be moderate with consumption. when he drinks water he chugs entire bottles because he forgets to drink during the day as he has learned to block out the signal
much better adept at technology than steve, from any era after 50~s due to training. knows how to hide in plain sight and the fashion of the current times (steve in his old slacks vs him in museum etc.., that's actually a fascinating thing i want to make a post about)
when spooked/appearing normal, stands stiff and straight and locks knees
doesn't have a lot of self preservation because he knows how very far his body can be pushed in extensive details. jumps from insane heights, keeps running after being injured with open wounds, kinda like steve but instead of being born from a desire to prove himself and do the best he can, it's born from a skewered view of how much is enough, which for him is basically nothing
likes soft, instrumental music. guitar, piano. he doesn't often sleep to music as its too passive, but he when he does its that
brushing his hair is calming, as he was basically neglected from ever being allowed to look after his hair and it makes him feel more in control
still insane there are people that exist that say shipping stucky is gross because of their comic dynamic like anybody was EVER, EVER talking about the comics when they referenced all of the scenes and quotes from the movies

The way Steve and Bucky swap roles in CATFA after Steve gets the serum is so important to me, I don’t know why people don’t talk about it more (or maybe they do idk I’m new here)
They literally mirror each other’s dialogue and actions once Steve becomes the big one and Bucky becomes the sick one, it changes their dynamic for the rest of the series if you pay attention
Anyway I could analyse these two for hours (English lit and film studies student yay!!) but TLDR - I love them so much, as you can probably tell, here is the art <333
