So I haven't posted on here in forever but I just really want, nay, need to GUSH about this movie!

The Thing About Harry is a TV movie romcom on Freeform/Hulu and it's just the best.

Have you ever wanted to watch a generic Rom-Com in the style of Julie Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Kate Hudson, et al, but gay. THIS IS THE MOVIE YOU HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR!

Some things I love about this movie:

*Completely ignores "The Gays Must Be Traumatized" trope

*No Homophobia in the text (bullying backstory but that's it).

*NOT hyper-sexualised without sanitising the queer experience either.

*Explicit happy ending. No downer/melancholy/sad notes at all. Just an explicitly optimistic, happy ending!

The protagonist (Sam) does become a bit mean and unsympathetic near the middle, but it's nothing worse than what you would find in the straight rom-coms of the female leads mentioned above.

I watched it last night for the first time and had to fight the urge to rewatch it immediately 😅 But I'm def rewatching this when I get home today.

I love this form of positive representation and I need 50 more movies exactly like this right the fuck now!

Fun fact: the movie was written and directed by the actor who played Emmet Honeycutt in Queer as Folk, Peter Paige.
