get to know liam milori :
Liam wasn’t originally from Echo Isle and in fact he never even stepped foot on the island until college. He was born and raised on one of the islands right outside of Echo - one that was much smaller and less known, though just as powerful. Magic ran through that island and those that could harness that power were well respected, even if they were kept a secret from the rest of the world.
The Milori family has always been well known in their country, descending from fairies. And not just any fairies, but the ones that ruled that island’s magical community. The political systems were far different than the ones on Echo Isle. The Miloris led not only the magical community but also had a strong hand in the official government of the country as well. It was because of the Milori family that the island’s magic was able to remain a secret for so many years - they didn’t close the borders completely ever but they did set up a veil around the island that erased all memories of magic from any and all non-magic users as soon as they left the island’s bubble. The family also formed a scouting group that has remained intact for years, a group that used whatever means necessary to protect the magic of the island, which is why they rarely if ever had any hunters in their land.
Growing up, life was great for Liam. He had anything and everything he could ever want. The only thing he lacked was the fact that he was forbidden from leaving their island. All of the measures that his family and ancestors had put into keeping the fairies and magic users of their island safe were there for a reason after all. His parents knew that anywhere else there would be the danger of hunters - especially their neighboring country Echo Isle. They never told him, not when he was young, but their family had known of the hunter problem Echo Isle had for centuries and rather than reaching out to offer help, they simply ignored it.
However once Liam was old enough to start making his own decisions he left the island, not telling his parents where he was going, just that he would return when it was time for him to take over for his father. His plan had originally been to travel all over the world, with his first stop being Echo Isle - but upon just the first few days of visiting the island, he fell in love. Both with the country as a whole and also with a woman, a fellow fairy named Claire. And that was all it took for his plan to go to shit and for Liam to decide on permanently relocating to Echo Isle.
He enrolled in the local university, studying political science as he knew that despite whatever future he may have dreamed of for himself, he was destined to return to his home and take his father’s place as the ruler of his community and magical ambassador for the country.
For the four years it took for him to finish schooling, he remained on Echo Isle with no issue. Of course he knew that there were higher dangers here than at home, but he hardly thought much about it at the time. He was happier, more so than he’d ever been in his life and he thought any potential danger was worth it.
Until the day he was shot by a hunter, having been roaming the forest on a walk with Claire, taking her to a sunny spot they often liked to visit together - where Liam planned to propose. Only they never made it there, obviously. He survived the attack, having reacted quickly as he fell, freezing the hunter before he could shoot again. Claire got him to safety and medical attention, but it was too late. He was paralyzed from the waist down.
It was then that Claire realized the dangers he was putting himself in by remaining in Echo Isle and so she broke things off with him, told him she didn’t want to see him anymore and to never contact her again - to go home and forget about everything they’d shared over the past years. With his new injury and having no one else to take care of him, Liam had no choice but to essentially do as she said - so he returned to his parents and his home country.
A few years after returning to his home, when he was 27, he met a new woman - one of the nurses that worked as his physical therapy office. They began to date and were quickly married, Liam taking in her three daughters as his own. It was great for a bit but after a few years they realized things weren’t as wonderful as they’d thought, realizing that they’d both just been hurting and had rushed into the first thing that made them feel better. They divorced but remained on good terms - he still considers himself to be the girl’s dad and he still remains active in their lives. They’re now 26 (Gliss), 24 (Peri), and 17 (Spike).
He regained full mobility four years after the accident, but even to this day he still has trouble at times. His flight was the one thing that never came back, no matter what he tried to do.
Took over his father’s place as ruler of the magical community on his island and ambassador and politician when he was 28. Has been working that position ever since, with Gliss joining him a few years ago as a fellow ambassador and an actual elected official.
Just within the last few months has received news of what’s been going on in Echo Isle. He had known about the borders going up, magically and legally preventing anyone from entering or leaving the island, but it wasn’t until a letter arrived to his office (addressed to his father, but given to him since he had taken over the position) detailing all of the increased issues with the hunters and the dangers waging within the island, warning them of the potential that it may spread out if she succeeds in getting the borders taken down. It had been sent from Claire herself and that was enough for Liam to know exactly what he was going to do.
Despite still being quite young, he officially stepped down from his position and promoted Gliss into the role, for the time being at least. And within a fortnight, he was sneaking his way onto a boat that was taking advantage of the incoming shipments to smuggle in illegal items. He doesn’t fully know what he plans to do, but he knew he needed to return to help, in any way that he could.
That’s where I’m picking him up - he’s just re-arrived on the island after being gone for like 19 years.
He no longer has his flight abilities - but he still has ice magic.
