Rescue has a special place in my heart. Back when I was a wee lad playing games on Facebook, there was one that I enjoyed most called Avengers Alliance. Rescue was the first *hard* to obtain heroes in unlocked and I enjoyed using her. So i painted her in her original red and silver scheme that was also used in-game, instead of painting her modern blue look.

Ok, so there are two things going on that people are combining and conflating.

The first is the "bones." That is the long thin white thing in the image. These "bones" are basically just a really long string of gas and particles caught in a strong magnetic field that causes them to flow and structurize in a way that is noticeable. They play a big part in forming new stars because they organize all of the matter that stars are made from and get them together and moving around inside the galaxy. They are most commonly observed near the center of our galaxy the Milky Way. But they likely exist in other places, especially other galaxies.

The second is the "fracture" part. People are seeing the long white line and thinking that that is the fracture. But what the science articles are actually saying is that the fracture is in the bone not that the bone is a fracture. And what they found is that a Pulsar (a super dense star spinning really fast) was coming in hot and hit the "bone" causing it to "fracture."

That is why they have the zoom in on the lil dot at the spot where it looks a lil warped. The "fracture" is not 230 lightyears long, the "bone" is. It is a cool thing, not a scary thing.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

So while I do use patreon (Ko-fi tragically lacks an app for mobile) I will say that numbers wise, Ko-fi is generally a way better deal of upkeep, as it's just a flat $5 (regardless of supporters) from what I have heard while patreon is percentage of total support. Not super relevant but I like sharing info.

Yeah, I would prefer to use Kofi for that reason, but if it was an overwhelming response of no one would support on Kofi but they would on Patreon, then even if the platform fees are better on Kofi, it would make more sense to use Patreon. Also, looks like your info is *slightly* stale. As of looking today, 4/28/2025, On Kofi you can start out as no monthly fee but a 5% platform fee. But you can pay $12/month to get no platform fee. Which is a nice option because then you don't need to be spending money on it to start but once you hit that break point ($12/5%=$240) where it would be cheaper for you as a creator to just pay the monthly fee, you can do that.

And Patreon starts at an 8% platform fee and you can go up to a 12% platform fee to get some "premium features"

But again, the point is, if I would only get 10 supporters on Kofi but 100 on Patreon, Patreon would still be the better option. Thus the poll. (Not that I expect the poll to reach enough people to truly be indicative of the long term potential supporter base)
