Green tea. Healthy tea.
I thought the British were onto something but it turns out they drink mainly black tea. Sooooo basically weak coffee. They are to black tea as Americans are to coffee. Except now Americans are catching up to green tea! A zero calorie, good for your heart, digestive and anti tumor tea. Doesn't that sound delicious? No really it's pretty good. I have been known to add a teeny bit of honey to mine but even without it's quite nice. And who could complain with the results? There was studies that showed green tea actually shrank tumors and helped fight cancer. While the studies aren't conclusive that drinking green tea alone prevents cancer, those that do vs those that don't have a 50% less chance of getting pancreatic cancer. Though the amount needed for prevention ranges from 2-10 cups a day... Green tea also helps with cardiovascular disease. 5-10 cups a day reduce your chances drastically while also helping lower your cholesterol. However drinking only 4 cups or fewer has no effect. While green tea does overall help your health it does not help with weight loss. There is not a lot of caffeine in it and it does not conclusively help your metabolism. I still day there are plenty of benefits to drinking green tea. Red Diamond (reddiamondtea.com) gave us a box with our Genghis Grill starter kit. I've had it several times either with my meal or just in the afternoons. I definitely foresee myself continuing drinking it after all the benefits I just learned.
Had to get my #genghisgrill to go today but still enjoying my @reddiamond tea with it!

Whole grains...yum....healthy...
Seriously, who thinks of yum and healthy together? You can't fool me bland cereal. Adding a banana will only go so far but it is good for you. It turns out that white bread and rice has been processed to take all the good stuff. Now I find it a little intriguing that the food products we have to process cost less than the ones we don't but hey...I did not major in economics...or anything for that matter. Does not mean I can't figure out the difference between white and brown rice!
Whole grain, or brown rice is better for you. In fact diabetics are encouraged to eat it instead of white rice. White rice, bread, etc. has been stripped of all the original whole grainy-ness (kernels and wheat husks and the such) as well as par boiled or cooked. Our body does not quite understand what we are trying to feed it so it basically sits in our system while it tries to hack away a little bit at a time to consume what nutritional value is left. It takes so long to find anything nutritional that the white rice turns to sugar and our body takes that as a sign to store it. Most likely in the ass in my case.
Whole grains contain all the original nutrients and our body recognizes this. Basically the little things that process the nutrients in our digestive system run up and fight over everything so grains don't have time to turn into sugar. Since the nutrients are processed accordingly as long as you stay active and your body needs said nutrients nothing should get stored in the ass.
So there you have it. Whole grain vs white and which is better and why. In my opinion and googled knowledge. (Seriously if google disappeared I wouldn't know what to do. I would have to "bing" what happened to google...) Any-who even though your grains can be kind of bland they seem a crutch of a side dish and if you must have them go for the whole grain! If I add carbs to my bowl at Genghis Grill I always choose brown rice over white.

So we're finishing up week 3 of the 60 day challenge for Genghis Grill's HealthKwest. I must admit, it is starting to get to me. I am not at the goal I set for myself and I am not fighting temptation well at all. GG asked how I am dealing with this stress. Well I am not. I am a procrastinator and keep thinking I have time, I can still do this. Yeah. I should start freaking out. You cannot just lose weight overnight. Well OK maybe you can lose like a pound but I mean you cant lose enough weight to win a weight loss challenge over night.
So I started looking for the little stress ball that they were kind enough to give to all the Khantestants. I found it....unfortunately Beaux (my totally awesome junkyard dog) found it first. When I didn't get upset I realized that he is my answer! He is the most amazing dog. I know that's akin to people bragging that their kid is the smartest am I am totally biased. Does not mean he is any less amazing to me. Beaux is only 8 months old and he is learning all kinds of tricks. Sometimes he doesn't know what I am asking so he does them all at once to see if he gets a treat - we're working on it - but he is also sweet and hyper and loving. I may have spoiled him a bit. He still thinks he is small enough to curl up and sit on my shoulder on the couch...in case you're wondering, he's not. But he also can tell when I am in a bad mood or I have anxiety building up. Even if I snap at him, he bounces right back because he loves unconditionally.
As I'm writing this he is hanging out right behind me wondering why I took the awesome yellow Styrofoam ball away from him when he clearly was not done tearing it to pieces. But he still loves me.
My fiance is sitting on the couch behind him. I should give a shout out to him because he is also amazingly supportive and has given me motivation to keep going. He knows I have a goal weight to get to be healthy, not to mention $10,000 is a lot of money that would help us buy a beautiful first house. Beaux would have a yard and we wouldn't have a downstairs neighbor that gets upset at any noise after 8pm... He agreed with me though that Beaux is a great support system. He hangs out with you when you're sick or worried. He likes to cuddle and just makes you feel like at the end of the day everything is going to be ok. Any stress I have I can at relax when I get to spend time with my dog. Even if he eats my stress balls. So while I am starting to freak out now I know that I have a wonderful life with a great fiance and dog. Even if it takes me more than 60 days to reach my goal I have a team here to help me make it through.

Red Wine Is Good For You?
Apparently so. There have been numerous studies that show health benefits to drinking red wine. The results are not definitive but there does seem to be a trend appearing. I'm not saying go out and drink as much red wine as you can, all the time. It is still an alcoholic beverage and should be drank in moderation.

1...2...3...Goal!
I. Am. Exhausted. Work has been super crazy and takes up the majority of my time so I should have known that taking on HealthKwest would have been a challenge. Eating Genghis Grill every day sounds like fun right? It is. But it is also difficult for someone who has an ever changing schedule. After it started I had to reevaluate a lot of my priorities. My fiance broke his ankle in December and is still in his recovery stage. My puppy, Beaux, is potty trained but I still am the primary caregiver since my other half is out of commission. My step sister also just moved back from England with the most adorable (yes I'm biased) 1 year old baby boy and is needing a little bit of help with the transition. I think there is a wedding being planned somewhere in between.
Genghis Grill is the biznit. Is that right? #sowhite #fancorps #Ad http://fcrps.me/triciapitts
Do I have a dream?
Everyone has dreams right? I'm not talking about when you sleep you dream of kittens in fields of flowers. I mean life goals. My step sister has always had a dream and a plan to get that dream. I've always envied her because she was right on track and I never had any idea where to start, let alone what my dream was. Sure I wanted what I assume everyone wants in life. You know, a decent job, someone to love, maybe a family one day and a nice house? But I never had any idea how to achieve those things.
I think my dream started without me when my [now fiance] proposed. I was getting married to the man of my dreams (pun intended). Well that involves a LOT of planning. I realized I did always have my big picture dream and while it wasn't planned down to the last detail, I was right on track. Now I get to focused on smaller dreams with in a dream to make the whole big dream come true. Wow, that's a lot of dreaming....
When I stumbled across the Genghis Grill Healthkwest Challenge I honestly applied without much hope of getting picked. I knew I wanted to lose weight for my upcoming wedding and what better way to motivate someone than a competition!? So when I received the call I was ecstatic. I ran through the office telling anyone who would listen. Now I am a competitor and boy do I have dreams that Healthkwest can help with. The obvious answer is I just want to look good in my wedding dress (duh) but I am also planning on spending the rest of my life with one person. I want it to be a loooooong life. I hope Healthkwest can help me become a healthier individual so I can, not only live longer with the one I love but, be healthier and more active to enjoy the time we have together.
My future husband is extremely supportive of my dream and I am extremely grateful for Healthkwest giving me the opportunity. It's going to take some hard work and lots of motivation but I think I can do it. So in short, I guess my current dream is to win this thing with flying colors and come out a healthy, active, happy future wife.
