     HE DIDN’T HAVE TO FINISH HIS STATEMENT. she knew what he was thinking, as her thoughts about the world were very similar. just being there sent an uncomfortable chill down her spine, and made her stomach churn to the point that she almost felt DIZZY. being with ephemera felt a bit better, and she couldn’t imagine what she might have felt if she’d had to be there alone. 

     ❛ is that…okay? ❜ kairi wrung her hands in front of her before lacing her fingers together, her face CURIOUS.❛ i mean, i want us all to be protected! i do! but…didn’t these…belong to people? ❜

          “well, yeah...” he wrings his hands sheepishly at his waistline, almost a bit timid at the suggestion himself; she wasn’t wrong. yet... but better safe than sorry, as he always says. (hey, since... since when did he start saying that?) “it used to.” his heart jumps into his throat for a second. if only this armor could’ve helped them back then...

          “oh, here!” bending down, he scrunches towards the ground & picks up what seems to be a chunk of rusty metal at first glance with a distracted smile. gloves of obsidian cloak themselves in its dying dust as they graze its dulled surface to reveal a lightly scratched pauldron. (as predicted.) “does this one look like it’d fit ... what’s his name? lea?” he holds the piece of armor under his arm, adopting a pursed lip, one in thought. “i know he’s pretty tall... it’s just a lot of these warriors were mostly kids, you know. at the forge, i think some tweaks can be made so it’s stronger & fits better than before.”

          “Oh! You’re…” She’d seen him before, albeit briefly. This was the boy that she had seen alongside that person a few times, though she couldn’t recall his name if she had ever heard it. Why was her memory so faulty? Or perhaps she had merely imagined it. It took a moment, but soon enough Strelitzia realized that she had been staring. “Sorry, sorry. I… uh… I’m just rambling.”

                              a  small  ‘  huh  ’  is  breathed  as  he  blinks his  eyes  into  curious  slits  .  she’s  definitely  no  master  ava  (  making  this  a  far  cry  from  their  usual  familiar  ,  quiet  meetings  :  free  from  prying  eyes  )  ,  but  his  kindness  is  always  reserved for  little  surprises .  “  oh——no ,  no  ,  you’re  good  !  ”  he  interjects sheepishly  ,  hands  waving  with  dismissal  ,“  i’m  ephemera  .  ”  in  a  similar fashion  ,  he  looks  the  girl  up  &  down  briefly  with  a  hum  .  “  ‘cept  ...  i  don’t  think  we’ve  met  before  .  you  lookin’ for  someone  ?  ”
