The Poker Night remaster brought in a whole new crowd of people who don't understand Tycho or how Penny Arcade works (or in this context, worked).
Too many people take the edgy jokes as pure FACT and ABSOLUTE CANON. None of them seem to understand that Penny Arcade is an episodic comedy comic strip that doesn't really have a plot. There are things that carry on over multiple strips, but the gags aren't canon.
If you take every gag as canon and having happened then both boys would be dead and the entire comic would be some kind of post-mortem fever dream.
I place partial blame on the fandom wiki for this. It is written as if every gag were a fact and a thing that stays canon.
Here's a good example of a joke that isn't canon but happens in the comic: Brenna's death. There is a series of comics where Tycho performs a videogame move on his wife, Brenna, resulting in her death. The arc ends with her being replaced by a bucket on a skateboard. If this were a canon event then we would never see her again and we'd just see the bucket on a skateboard in her place. Except we do see her later on. She's magically brought back through the cartoon bullshit of Penny Arcade. Because 90% of the jokes in the comic aren't canonical events.
Second point: the original Poker Night was made during the comic's edgy phase. Hence, the dog fucking jokes. You need to understand, when consuming content made oh I don't know let's just say pre-2016 is that for the longest time the default humour online was based on saying the most crude and shocking shit to get a reaction. Penny Arcade was not exempt from this. The jokes about fucking animals were part of it. (A lot of the jokes from that time weren't funny or even well-recieved (cough, dick wolves, cough).) So when Telltale decided to add Tycho to their poker simulator they most likely looked over the comic's recent strips to get a general gist of the who they were writing and went with it. The animal fucking jokes must've stood out as just "part of the comic's humour", even if they were just 3 strips, and they went with it.
And that's how we got uncomfortable nerd who wants to fuck porcupines/giraffes Tycho in Poker Night.
Of course, a lot has changed since then. Both Gabe and Tycho have changed, the humour isn't the same. And, overall, his depiction in Poker Night isn't accurate anymore. Actually, I dare to say it wasn't all too accurate, even for the era of Tycho it was made during.
Am I saying you have to like the jokes? No. Am i saying you can't feel uncomfortable because of them? No. Am I asking you to understand the context and actually look into the character? Yes.
Yes, I know I'm taking this more seriously than I need to be, but man, it hurts seeing a character I care about be reduced to "le animal fucker weirdo xdddd". Please, for the love of god, know the context of something before you speak on it.
