Setting Up Your Beltane Altar
Beltane, the fertility and fire festival. Beautiful, vibrant, romantic. Beltane is about Life, Fire, Passion, and Rebirth. Here are some ideas on setting up your Beltane Altar, but be creative, decorate throughout your home. Let your Spirit guide you and have fun!~ This is the time of year when the earth is lush and green, brimming with life. Use lots of greens but also bright Spring colors~the yellow of the daffodils, forsythia and dandelions; the purples of the lilac; the blue of a spring sky or a robin’s egg. Decorate your altar with any or all of these colors in your altar cloths, candles, or colored ribbons~ Life has awoken upon the earth after the long Winter’s dormancy, so allow yourself to play and let your creative voice sing! The Beltane holiday is the time when, in some traditions, the male energy of the god is at its most potent. He is often portrayed with a large and erect phallus, and other symbols of his fertility include antlers, sticks, acorns, and seeds. You can include any of these on your altar. Consider adding a small Maypole Centerpiece – there are few things more phallic than a pole sticking up out of the ground! In addition to the lusty attributes of the god, the fertile womb of the goddess is honored at Beltane as well. She is the earth, warm and inviting, waiting for seeds to grow within her. Add a goddess symbol, such as a statue, cauldron, cup, or other feminine items. Any circular item, such as a wreath or ring, can be used to represent the goddess as well. Add a collection of early spring flowers to your altar – daffodils, hyacinths, forsythia, daisies, tulips – or consider making a floral crown/wreath to wear yourself. You may even want to pot some flowers or herbs as part of your Sabbat ritual. In some cultures, Beltane is sacred to the Fae. If you follow a tradition that honors the Faerie realm, leave offerings on your altar for your household helpers. Beltane is one of the four fire festivals in modern Pagan traditions, find a way to incorporate fire into your altar setup. Although one popular custom is to hold a bonfire outside, that may not be practical for everyone, so instead it can be in the form of candles (the more the better), or a table-top brazier of some sort. A small cast-iron cauldron placed on a heat-resistant tile makes a great place to build an indoor fire. Other Beltane Symbols and Decpre include: May baskets Chalices Honey, oats, milk Antlers or horns Fruit such as cherries, mangos, pomegranates, peaches Swords, lances, arrows Maypole Centerpiece For this simple craft project, you’ll need the following: A 1" thick dowel rod, about a foot long A wooden circle, about 4" in diameter Pieces of ribbon in various colors, about 2 feet long each A hot glue gun Use the hot glue gun to attach the dowel rod to the center of the wooden circle. Once the glue has dried, you can stain or paint the wood if you choose. Attach the center of each ribbon to the top of the dowel rod. Use the Maypole as a centerpiece on your altar. You can braid the ribbons as a meditation tool, or include it in ritual. Floral Wreath (To Wear Upon Your Head) Pipe cleaners (preferably green, but any color works; Also you can use several pipe cleaners to make it thicker by weaving them together) Spring flowers, such as daisies, irises, petunias (leave the stems on) Ribbon in whatever colors you love. Take the pipe cleaners and create a circle that will fit your head. This usually takes two pipe cleaners for adults, and maybe one and a half for kids. Twist the ends together to form a ring. Next, take two more pipe cleaners and loop them around the ring. This creates a framework for you to add your flowers. Take your spring flowers and weave the stems through the pipe cleaner frame. Tuck the flowers in snugly so that the frame is covered. If you have trouble getting them to stay in place, or if they seem loose, wrap a bit of green florist’s wire around them for additional stability. Finally, cut several ribbons in a variety of lengths. Tie them to the back of the flower wreath. Once you put on your floral crown, you’ll be all ready to go dance around the Maypole!
🌸🍃 Beltane Tips! 🍃🌸
Hello, my loves! I know it’s relatively early, but I wanted to make a post about this in advance for those who need some help / inspiration with the upcoming holiday. :-) Beltane, also known as “May Day,” is at the very beginning of May, and its purpose is to continue the celebration of Spring and fertility. We bow to the abundance of the fertile Earth, and become aware of Her opening up to the fertility God. Their union gives life to healthy and strong livestock/crops and new life in general. This is inspiring to many witches and magick workers who wish to bring change into their own lives, as well as show a passionate appreciation for life itself.
- If you’re on a bit of a schedule, there are simple things you can do to show your thanks for the planet we live on and the gift of life. Much like with Ostara, just try your best to thank nature - take a short walk, notice how green everything is, eat some fresh vegetables, and take deep breaths of morning air. 🌸
- Create a Beltane altar! Include lots of green items, inspired by the lushness of the growing grass and the leaves on the trees. Also include pastels to honor Spring, such as yellows, blues, and pinks. Incorporate these lively colors into the objects in your altar - think ribbons, decorated sticks, flowers, candles, cloths, succulents, baskets, grass, chalices and statues. Add some symbolism to represent the strong male energy of the God, which is especially potent at this time. Think sticks, acorns, seeds, antlers - and try your hand at creating your own mini Maypole! 🌿
- If you have the environment / time to do so, gather a group of friends and have a bonfire (or even just a fire in your fireplace, if you have one)! Beltane is one out of the four fire festivals in current Pagan traditions, so its presence during this time is especially welcome. Can’t have a bonfire? Light some green candles and meditate near them, perhaps while writing a list of things you wish to renew in your life. 🔥
- Eat!!! Try and incorporate milk, honey, and/or oats into your meals during this time, as well as fruits - peaches, mango, pomegranates, and cherries. 🍒🍯🥛🍑
I hope this guide is helpful! xoxo

I did my first ever spell jar! I used @witchy-woman’s Creativity Jar as a starting point and added a few other things to it to make it my own :) I added: -two sigils, one for writing and one for drawing -small pieces of paper from the note books and sketch book I use the most ( I wrote my sigils on them) -pencil shavings, I always hand write every story before I put them up on the Internet -quartz crystal shards I used a wax melt for the seal, yellow for creativity, but also used the tea light wax since I didn’t melt enough yellow. I also burnt dragon’s blood incense for more creativity vibes and I cleansed the inside and outside of the bottle with the smoke from it. I chose the bottle that I did because it reminded me of old fashioned ink pots, and since I was making this to help with my writing/art I saw it fitting :) All in all this is a great spell jar and I really want to thank witchy- woman for coming up with it!

if you're not comfortable sharing, that's fine, just ignore this ask but you brought up voluntary possession in one of your last posts? what was that like?
Very pleasant actually, although it was with a spirit I have a very long term relationship with (talking over a decade) and trust very much so we both discussed what we both were going to do ahead of time to make it a good experience for both of us.

Happy Sunday loves!!
This spread is slightly longer but for good reason!! I made us all a self love spread because I know sometimes it is so easy to get caught up in wanting to be a certain way that we often forget we are actually wonderful JUST the way we are!
All my love, Kyla <3
this is my favourite spread to use when i’m reading for myself, it’s always very insightful.
Protection Pennies
As a child I remember my grandmother always putting pennies above the doors and the window, I never questioned it, it was just something she did. I had totally forgotten about it until I moved to the US. I began doing readings at a small book store called Unicorn Books and Gifts. On my first day there I closed the door and was hit by a penny. I noticed another above the door. After speaking with the owner I learned that one of the other readers puts them there for protection, just like my grandmother.
I later questioned my grandmother about it. She told me that it is a “old gypsy charm”.She told me that it is ideal to use a horseshoe or nails, but pennies will give you a little extra “luck”.
What you will need
Pennies
Salt
Jar
Your intention
Place the salt and the pennies in a jar or any container that you have at hand.
Leave for a week. The salt will cleanse the pennies. It will remove any unwanted energy and give your pennies a protection boost.
Once cleansed, hold the jar of pennies and salt in your hand and set your intention. (To protect your thresholds)
I like to imagine the pennies surrounded in white light. White to me means protection but find whatever works for you.
Once you have set your intent place two pennies above your doors and windows. Place one at each end of the frame. I like to imagine a white protective light joining the two, creating a protective barrier. Only those with the “greatest of good” for your home will be able to cross it.
Once or twice a month replace the pennies with fresh ones. Place used pennies back into the salt to cleanse.
For a added protective boost I like to also draw a line with Dragons Blood between the pennies.
I hope this helps
Brightest Blessings
Rachael-Elizabeth
