Jeremy listened as Salem explained his life before he’d been brought to the cells. It made the shifter wonder what the witch had done to earn himself a spot in here if his life had been so good and he almost asked, but refrained for now. He might sum up the courage later when he felt he’d earned the answer. As soon as Salem turned his own question back on him, Jeremy tried to figure where to start. “My life was….depressing. I was abandoned by my family at a young age because they couldn’t afford to feed us all. So I lived on the streets and made my way through…less than appealing means. Before I came here I was working as an exotic dancer in a club in the city, but the club got raided because the owner stopped paying his bills and many of us dancers were brought here.”

he thought the other would question what had changed or at least why salem didn’t have a family but when the other remained silent, he decided to leave it at that too. the boy’s life, however, was tragic and salem found himself slightly pitying the shifter for all that he had endured, a whistle fleeing his lips when the other stopped speaking, “that’s tough,” salem murmured, “you’re strong, some of them will appreciate that.”

“Some other slaves look better than you. Maybe you should put a little effort in and you wouldn’t look like complete dog shit, eh?” Elijah couldn’t help himself. He knew the conditions were bad, but the slave’s attitude annoyed him. He was, after all, offering a meal. More than most masters would offer. “You sure? I wouldn’t want to put you out. You seem like you’re pretty busy.” Again the biting words, but he was already whispering to the guards to prepare the slave.

“true, but they won’t taste as good as me. I know I have magic in my blood, no doubt you can smell it, otherwise you’d be talking to one of them and not me, unless you have a thing for brats--” that didn’t seem right, the stranger didn’t strike him as the type for that. he stepped back as the vampire whispered to the guard, pressing his lips together, “I’m pretty swamped but um, I guess I could fit you in.” a touch of a smile dared to grace salem’s lips as he cocked his head to the side.

“S’nothin’.” Cain promised yet again as he was thanked for the half pack of smokes. Honestly he wished he’d had a full pack on him to give Salem but he did make a mental note of the guys cell number so that he could come back and give him a pack. “Good’a meet ya’ Salem.” He mumbled as they shook hands. Letting go of the witches Cain drew his smoke from his lips and blew out slowly. “If ya’ wanna, an’ ya’ don’t gotta, ya’ can come with me. Gotta shower, extra bed an’ some food for ya’.” He explained before shrugging his shoulders. “But I ain’t gonna make ya’ an’ if ya wanna leave at anytime ya can.” He promised as he tapped the end of his smoke out. It might actually be nice to have someone else in the house that wasn’t himself or his dog. Not that he didn’t love his dog, Cooper, she was great. But having another person around was different. 

he smiled a little warmer when the other spoke to him, his voice was rough but the words were gentle and he realised that the other wasn’t quite like other masters, eve if he attempted anything outside of this cell, there was something about him that was different and salem was certainly attracted to it. he pretended to ponder the words before nodding slowly, forever portraying the more innocent kind of slave to the right kind of super. “thank you,” he nodded, flicking his own cigarette without much care for where it ended up before retrieving the carton cain had gifted him and holding it tightly, “I’d like to come with you.”

Salem had seen better days, Sebastian had been around for them after all. Gods, after he’d had his fill of that Alpha’s magic it was like he’d been glowing. Now he seemed to be fading rather quickly and as someone who supported chaos as much as possible, Sebastian was saddened to see it. “Oh no, I’m very against murder. Turned over a completely different leaf.” He teased Salem with a smile before putting a hand on his shoulder and squeezing. “Of course. If you want, you can just pick out another slave or I can let you loose on the town. Claim blissful ignorance when someone goes missing.” He shrugged. “Totally up to you.”

he leaned closer to the other as the comforting gesture of his hand was placed on his shoulder, salem appreciated that the other was under no illusions that this meant the witch was any less powerful, he knew what salem was capable of and being the good companion he was, was willing to help him restore some of the power he had lost since being thrown into the cells. his joke, however, didn’t go unmentioned, “what use do we have for one another then?” the other dared to tease, a smirk touching his lips before he mirrored the kitsune’s gesture and placed his hand on his shoulder, “you, my friend, are a saviour. no, nobody from here, I need power, somebody strong, well fed.”

Well he could see why the pretty little slave hadn’t been purchased. The boy was definitely what Elion would call a specialty item. He didn’t seem suitable for labor especially any that would give the unpredictable boy weapons and he seemed a bit unstable for a pleasure slave. He was sure some of the more unpleasant Master’s could find a use for the boy or perhaps a brothel that catered to the darker needs. He was distracted fro his thoughts at the boy’s question and laughed. “Only if you want to be. I was just warning you about them. I personally don’t give a fuck what you did to him. He wasn’t that pretty anyways. I mean if you damaged a pretty one it might be a different matter, but that’s not my property so what do I care?”

he tilted his head to the side and his expression softened some, at least the other wasn’t about to punish him and that was somewhat comforting. salem straightened up, folding his legs over one another as he assessed the large man outside of his cell, “I’m all for a little pain, it goes hand in hand with pleasure really, but I don’t think I should be punished for defending myself.” a slight scoff followed his words, “if he were pretty, I think I could have allowed him a little feed.” the boy placed his hands on his knees, “I like the way you think, something I understand rather than those who have no interest in me but are very interested in having me beg.” salem paused, cocking his head to the side as his eyes drifted away from his current counterpart, “I don’t beg all that easy for masters that couldn’t take me if I was in a better state.”

“What was life like for you out there, in the real world not this…hell hole?” Jeremy found himself asking. He didn’t often talk to many of the other slaves and he was sure his roommate enjoyed antagonising him more than chitchatting sometimes, so the shifter found himself curious about the lives of others, especially when his own had been so sad. He smiled warmly when Salem took his hand and didn’t brush him off, already feeling a little more at ease in the witch’s company. 

he was surprised by the sudden question and for a moment, salem thought about lying, about claiming how unfairly treated he was to be thrown in here but he decided against it, breathing out, the witch began, “my life -- was great, I lived alone, I practiced magic that I wanted to, no family, the odd friend, I had everything that I needed.” salem scowled momentarily before glancing over the other, finally releasing his hand after a moment too long and smiling softly, “what about you, jeremy?”

he smiled a little when the other snapped out of his daze and addressed him, his eyes shamelessly glancing over his frame, a natural reaction on the witch’s part before he looked up into the sky instead, offering himself a distraction to watch a few birds appearing from a nearby tree, flying overhead of them. “a nice day,” he passed comment, pushing himself up and moving towards him, “unless you prefer silence, I wouldn’t want to disturb you.” maybe he was being sweeter than usual, but he was a sucker for a pretty face and a powerful aura, both of which his new found counterpart possessed, “I’m salem.”

The way the other seemed to shamelessly take him in didn’t bother Jeremy, he was used to far worse leering from patrons in his past, but it still brought a light colour of a blush to the shifter’s cheeks. He nodded at the comment, eyes turning up to the sky as well, feeling the warmth of the day on his skin. It was nice, after being cooped up inside so long. “Yeah, it is. I miss being outside when we’re stuck in there.” Jeremy agreed. Green eyes grew a little wider for a second when the other asked if he was disturbing him. “Oh no, it’s fine. I like company.” Jeremy assured. He did like being around people but he was careful after having years of the wrong company. “Jeremy. It’s nice to meet you Salem.” The redhead smiled softly, awkwardly deciding to offer his hand.

the blush that touched the other’s cheeks was enough to make salem grin, he was charming, had the witch managed to calm himself before breaking the rules so obviously beneath the king’s nose then this particular slave would be the one he went for. his grin maintained as the other spoke, “yeah, it’s draining…” the male breathed, pursing his lips for a moment as he watched the other responding to his words, glancing down at the hand that was offered to him and not thinking before taking it, “a pleasure, I’m sure.”

he scowled at his grin but salem knew it was all in light hearted fun, the two had bonded, against all odds and he had come to favour the kitsune, despite not particularly enjoying the trickster spirits in the past. their time together had been unconventional of course but that was practically a speciality where the witch was concerned. he dropped his lips in mock surprise, his hand pressing to his chest, “I know no such thing,” salem mumbled, knowing full well his seemingly innocent looks had gotten him off the hook on more than one occasion and often lead people to underestimate his abilities. the familiar gesture his companion offered brought a more genuine smile to his lips as he sighed and deflated, relaxing slightly for the first time since his capture, “I lost my temper, I didn’t act smart, I acted on impulse – even after telling those around me to be smart, to think, all my life, I lost it.” his lips turned down at the sides, “get me out of here.”

“Oh please, save the act for someone who hasn’t seen you kill an alpha.” Sebastian whispered to his friend with a smile. He missed having friends sometimes. Most of the time he found people to late in there lives and they died before he could get attached or just after. Either that or they were to young to understand anything about him. Salem was different. He was young but he was powerful and he’d taken that power for himself. Worked for it. Seeing him locked up here sucked, if Sebastian was honest. “It happens to all of us. Even the best of it us.” He assured the witch before looking to the nearest guard. “Get him out. I want him.” Sebastian ordered him quickly before waiting for him to do the work. “I’ve got a car outside. We can go to mine. Get you cleaned up and feed. You’ll be fine.” He promised as Salem was set free from his cell.

his features lit up at the fond memory, though it was obvious enough that salem was having withdrawals from his magic, the darkness beneath his eyes had always been present but now deeper set, it illuminated his pale blue irises to an almost silvery colour and his skin was looking a little less ivory a little more grey. the witch watched his companion with a faint smile and stepped back as the guard opened the gate, shooting them a glare before stepping around them and towards sebastian, “thank you…” he breathed out, “and magic – I need to kill something, if you don’t mind.” salem grinned, flashing the other a wink.

salem practically clamped his hand around the cigarette the moment it was placed in his palm, not wanting the other to take away what he’d already offered him and pulled back from the bars immediately – appreciating but not exactly trusting the smile the master offered to him when he spoke, “thanks,” he mumbled again, wary of the stranger’s intentions and completely oblivious to the fact that not all those in a position of power were intent on taking what they pleased. often, salem was a willing participant but after experiencing more than one individual hoping to take what he was ready to give, well,  the young witch had learned his lesson to push aside his arrogance.

perhaps he should have taken the offer, using his magic was only exhausting him but salem seemed to reject the offer purposely as if to show that he wasn’t completely helpless, snapping his fingers and lighting the end of the cigarette before extinguishing the flame while holding cain’s eye. he inhaled deeply and the nicotine hit him quick, making his head spin slightly but it was welcomed, “who are you?”

Shrugging his shoulders again, Cain shook his head. He knew what it was like to crave one of these things and not be able to get his hands on one. Normally it wasn’t for very long, not nearly as long as Salem had surely been waiting for a smoke, but still. That moment of, I want one but I can’t get one, was always horrible. He imagined that happened a lot to these people behind the bars.  It used to happen to him when he was in there spot. Although that had been different. He’d been trained to hunt for humans. Been allowed out to run and work for them. Cain wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing but it was different.  Watching Salem light up his own cigarette, Cain was actually pretty impressed. He dipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out the carton of smokes again.”Cain,” He grumbled out his name before holding out the carton. ”S’only half but ya’ can have ‘em.” He told Salem. “Can get ya’ more once ya’ run out or a guard takes’em.”

he couldn’t quite understand the other, whether it was genuine kindness or whether he wanted something from salem, or if he simply thought by being pleasant he’d get a more willing counterpart – the witch couldn’t tell. but he certainly wasn’t complaining about the gentleness of the rugged master. his head tilted to the side when the other offered him the carton of cigarettes, something he could get into trouble for but something he clearly was dismissing if he knew at all. the witch accepted the gesture, of course, his smile becoming more genuine as he looked the master over, “thank you, cain.” he spoke in a too-sweet voice as he quickly turned, hiding the carton with the smile still firmly in place when he returned to the bars and once again stuck his hand out, though this time in a greeting, “my name is salem.”

when no immediate answer came, the witch glanced up, silver-like hues glancing over the slave across the walkway from him and he gave him a bright smile as the other rolled his eyes, “cat got your tongue, handsome?” he purred, forgetting his place for a moment. having spent so long outside these bars, salem quickly fell into his dominant role, his power had always allowed him to feel untouchable and the young witch forgot to keep in mind that he was in a similar position to his handsome counterpart now and he looked far from pleased with his display of violence.

Ugh, this guy was definitely new.  Slaves didn’t talk to each other like that.  Clearly the new guy was used to being a master, having power over people like Damon.  He sent the new slave an unimpressed look.  Casually, and with no apparent feeling behind the motion, Damon flipped him the bird.

maybe he shouldn’t have been marvelling but he couldn’t help himself and his smile only grew when the other slave flipped him off, “oh come on, shouldn’t we be looking out for each other?” salem taunted, cocking his head to the side, the other was definitely impressive, at least physically, he may have been worth it if salem could be the effort in, “doesn’t hurt to use your words.” he pushed his hands through the bars, “or make a few acquaintances.”

he looked up at the male, a seemingly innocent expression touchedhis expression, “I’m not indifferent, I’m hungry.” salem admitted, turningaround to face the other again, though not bothering to push himself up fromhis seated position, instead looking the master over from where he rested,narrowing his eyes a fraction, “what’s the catch? what do you want in return?”it was usually sex or feeding and salem wasn’t exactly opposed to either if hewas getting something in return, this master had been the first in his arrivalto offer anything in return for his pleasure.

“The catch is whatever I see fit. I’ll most likely feed from you.” Elijah paused to look the slave over. “Are you healthy? You look like you’ve seen better days.” It was a real question. He didn’t like the taste of anemic blood. It was bitter and unsatisfying. If that was the case, the slave could stay in his cell. “As for anything else, I can’t tell you what I might want once I’m fed. But I do promise a meal. Take it or leave it.”

salem pursed his lips and raised a brow when the other questioned him and glanced down at his frame before back up to the arrogant vampire, “I’m starving in a cell, not going to look tip-top now, am I?” the witch rolled his eyes and looked ahead, “I’m in perfect health other than the obvious.” pushing himself up and looking the master over, purposely moving his eyes slowly over his frame before knitting his brows together and shrugging his shoulders, “fine.”

he glanced up at the unfamiliar and huge frame towering outside his cell, his head cocked to the side and a slow smile curved up on his lips, it was rather sadistic but it certainly usually put off the more weak minded ‘masters’, salem spelled trouble and some were smart enough to know when to back off – this guy didn’t seem willing to leave well enough alone. other slaves – salem narrowed his eyes at the term and dropped his smirk, “let them be cross, I can handle a bit of trouble.”

Elion had a feeling this one didn’t like him, but he was used to that. The slaves tended to be bitter little bitches more often than not. They also tended to be a bit over confident of themselves. “You do realize you wouldn’t be facing a single weakened vampire.” He quirked an eyebrow at the boy and shook his head. “And I imagine this might be a bit more than a bit of trouble. You made another slave half useless do you really think there won’t be consequences.” He hated people who acted as if there were no consequences.

salem pushed himself back on the bed till his back touched the wall and brought his knees up, resting his wrists against them as he hung his head slightly, only looking back up at the master as he spoke, a slow, sadistic smile curving on his lips, “I’m aware,” he spoke carefully, voice like silk, “are you going to punish me?” the witch dared to ask, quirking a brow.

his brows pushed together as the other held his stare for a good while for responding and for whatever reason, salem suddenly smiled, finding some amusement in their somewhat awkward encounter – however, his amusement didn’t last, quickly replaced with surprise when the other tossed the fabric in his direction and stepped back. salem narrowed his eyes, pondering it before deciding freezing to death seemed more painful than accepting whatever it was this master wanted in return. he pushed himself from the bed and lifted the jumper from the ground, pulling it onto his frame where it hung loosely but provided a lot more warmth than his flimsy clothes beneath it, “thank you,” he murmured somewhat warily.

salem tilted his head to the side as the other pulled out his cigarettes and his stomach twisted, he couldn’t remember the last time he had a cigarette and it was a terrible craving that only grew when the other offered it to him. again, salem was wary, but aware that he could protect himself with what he had if need be. still, that required fast reflexes and the witch was exhausted, so he kept his guard up. moving towards the other, he stuck his hand through the bars, palm face up with expecting eyes, “please.”

A lot of these slave seemed so scared to take anything from him and that made Cain want to give them more. When he’d been locked away in a cell like the one that held Salem now, he hadn’t gotten shit from anyone. With the exception of a swift kick the to ribs every now and again. If he needed food he had to hunt. If he wanted to keep warm then he had to build a fire or suffer. But these people couldn’t do that for themselves. He couldn’t imagine just how frustrating it would be to rely on people all the time. Someone had to feed them, someone had to give them clothing and water. It must have been exhausting not to be able to do a single thing on there own. Cain was sure that if he was locked up again, locked up like this, he would completely lose his mind. “S’nothin’.” He promised at the others thanks. Standing forward, Cain placed the cigarette in the witches hand. He gave him the smallest smile just to make sure he knew he was safe. Cain was aware that he had a resting angry face and he tried to do his best to tame it when he remembered. “Been hooked on ‘em for so long. Can’t imagine how bad I’d be off ‘em.” He admitted easily before starting to look for his lighter. Which he found and used to light up quickly before passing it over to Salem. “Ya’ need it?”

it was nice to get some free time, he hadn’t hesitated at all to lunge for the doors the minute it was offered to him and salem had taken up residence in the gardens, walking barefooted in the grass despite the small chill in the air. he may not have favoured his tie to nature, but having been parted from dark magic for a couple of weeks, he was willing to take what he could from his surroundings. the witch stopped however when he heard footsteps around him and turned slowly to spot the fiery-headed boy making his way towards salem, seeming more involved in his mind than his current setting. he watched him for a while, admiring his beauty before resting against a tree and perking an eyebrow when he caught his gaze, “don’t let me intrude on your thoughts.”

Jeremy seemed to snap out of his daze when he caught the other male’s eyes and heard him speak. The shifter hadn’t even realised he’d been lost in thought until he was brought back to the immediate world around him. He rubbed the back of his neck, fingers tracing up into fiery hair as he glanced away, shyness coming over him when he wasn’t clad in nothing but a pair of revealing shorts and made to dance on a stage for others. Jeremy liked being out in nature, it usually made him calmer but the gardens of the slave house weren’t quite the same. “Oh, uh you weren’t. Sorry I just…drifted off.” He spoke softly, green eyes taking in the other male. Jeremy could smell the soft hint of magic on him, meaning the other must be a witch.

“I actually wouldn’t mind seeing that. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a vampire– or anyone really– have their ass handed to them that quickly.” He commented back with a loose smirk as he leaned forward on his cot. Sure, Lucian knew speaking like this could be dangerous– they could punish him for simply smirking at the other slaves treatment of a master– but he didn’t care. There was no point in saving his soul if he was already in hell so he might as well enjoy himself when he could. “Exactly, us slaves have to stick together.” He repeated back with a smile. “Tired, mostly, but if you want to be more technical human is probably a better answer… what about you?”

salem grinned under the praise, finding himself rather intrigued about his admirer as he watched the other and every little move he made – interested body language, he noticed firstly as the two shared a rather daring conversation given the guards were in hearing distance. the witch nodded as his counterpart agreed and offered him a chuckle in response to the response he gave, “human,” he repeated, it was disappointing, if he was going to befriend anyone in hopes of getting out of here, he didn’t expect it would be a human’s assistance that would give him advantage, but he wasn’t going to complain about making a few connections while stuck in the cells, “I’m a witch.”

he narrowed his eyes at the laugh, the voice sounding more so familiar now with that touch of hysteria to his chuckle, his lips curled up but he refused to look up, remaining as oblivious as before as he cocked his head to the side, persisting with the task at hand before finally, he gave in and offered the fox what he wanted – attention, “ like I could forget you, darling, you gave me my first big bad alpha.” salem smirked, pushing himself from the bed and moving towards the familiar kitsune, such fond memories flooded salem the moment he caught sebastian’s gaze and he quickly dropped his smile, “and now I’m here, and you were eyeing me like a piece of meat.” the witch scolded playfully, “it could be worse, I suppose.”

Leaning on the cell bars as Salem came closer, Sebastian’s smile only grew brighter. He had a soft spot for those who he’d killed with in the past. Salem had helped him out a great deal with keeping things under wraps and making sure no one ever found the Alpha’s body. As well as the killing itself. “Awe, dear, I’m flattered.” He teased lightly. Not many people who crossed Sebastian lived to tell about and he’d assumed the same went for Salem. They were like star crossed killers. Meant to play all day long with powerful folk worth bringing down. “Oh please, you know very well just how attractive you are. Walking past you without a look up would be tragic.” He grinned and patted the witches hand through the bars. “How in seven hells did you get caught?” Sebastian asked in a lower tone.

Jeremy had never considered it, though he probably should have, he’d been living on the streets for so long that he almost forgot what the world was like outside the bubble he’d resided in. So when the day came and the club had been ransacked, all the dancers rounded up and those selected for the cells taken away, he wasn’t sure why he’d been so surprised it had happened to him. Maybe it was naive to think his life wouldn’t have ended up here at some point, but the shifter hadn’t considered it. He’d only been in the cells a couple weeks, getting used to it all and the fact that this was his life now. So it was all still pretty new to him. Jeremy wandered around the grounds during the slaves allotted free time, mostly trying to keep to himself.

it was nice to get some free time, he hadn’t hesitated at all to lunge for the doors the minute it was offered to him and salem had taken up residence in the gardens, walking barefooted in the grass despite the small chill in the air. he may not have favoured his tie to nature, but having been parted from dark magic for a couple of weeks, he was willing to take what he could from his surroundings. the witch stopped however when he heard footsteps around him and turned slowly to spot the fiery-headed boy making his way towards salem, seeming more involved in his mind than his current setting. he watched him for a while, admiring his beauty before resting against a tree and perking an eyebrow when he caught his gaze, “don’t let me intrude on your thoughts.”
