Winter Foxies
More from Tarot Del Fuego! This card makes me think about how complicated people are. We can meet others halfway to who and where they are, but productivity in relationships is destroyed when we become someone else in an effort to match them.
I’m not a witch with gods...
tl;dr I’m having god-y experiences and I’d like to hear what other people’s god-y experiences have been.
Like it’s really hard for me to get on board with god stuff. The more personified and human-like it is, the less I buy it. I’ve tired to conceptualize gods in a more symbolic way, but I still have a hard time. So, long story short, I’m not dedicated to any gods from any pantheon. I know a lot about Celtic mythology and I know basic stuff about Greek mythology. I don’t find Greek mythology particularly interesting. I do like Persephone’s story but that’s about it.
The past few nights I’ve been having your run of the mill dreams. But somewhere in the middle of the dream content I get the overwhelming feeling of Ares. I sometimes have the thought that “This is Ares” or “Ares is here”.
When I first started learning about Celtic mythology I was hyper-focused on The Morrigan. I had wrapped up a basic ritual in the middle of the night. At the time I had a red taper candle that I used during that ritual. I dreamt that my red taper candle fell off of my table and broke into three even pieces, all connected by the wick that ran through them.
These are the only intuition-y experiences that I’ve had relating to the gods. The candle dream was nearly two years ago. The Ares dreams have been just this past week.
I don’t know what I’m hoping to get out of sharing this publicly. If anyone has any input or experience with god stuff, that’d be cool. I’d like to hear some other people’s experiences with this stuff.
I don’t know if I can be helpful or not, but I guess I can sort of relate, so you’re not really alone?
For me, I don’t believe in gods, but I love the stories and use the gods as metaphors, basically. If I need to get some love/beauty/sex stuff done, I do things that align with Aphrodite. I wear rose quartz and seashells, I burn rose incense, etc. So that’s one example. But at the same time, sometimes it feels like maybe there are gods? It’s hard to explain. Like, intellectually, I don’t believe in gods. The concept doesn’t make sense to me. But there’s something else in me, maybe some primal part, that feels like gods could be real, and it’s hard to consolidate all of that.
Yes, all of this. I definitely feel the duality - I have this pull to believe in god/the gods/a god but whenever I’ve pursued that I end up feeling really ingenuine and uncomfortable with it. :/
Mmm, I don’t know that there’s anything wrong with having a pull to believe in something greater than yourself, whether you’ve committed yourself to preternatural practices like witchcraft or not.
Even before getting involved in witchcraft, I vacillated between days where I couldn’t care less if God was real or dead or what, and then others where I wasn’t so sure. On those days and the ones between them, I filled (and continue to fill) the proverbial void with research, literature, philosophy, self-reflection, all kinds of shit (it sounds and feels super pretentious to say as much, but it helps me a lot). It’s not enough--it’s never enough--to satisfy my curiosity and anxiety, but over time, it enabled me to appreciate the mystery, the longing, repulsion, everything. I like the humaneness of it, and it made me more okay with my unwillingness to commit. And I learned a lot in the process, about myself as well as in an analytical sense.
I can’t intellectually accept god(s), goddesses, etc. either, but I don’t know. I use witchcraft as a means and mode for things in my day-to-day life, as well as for well-being of my psychological landscape, but my concerns with spirituality, religion, metaphysics, whatever, runs parallel to my practice, like the relationship between language and thought.
Beep boop. There it is, my peanut in the gallery, if you’re feeling torn about that sort of thing.

I first and foremost would like to give a wonderful shout out to @rosaofswords for creating this wonderful series #TarotToTheCourt. It is such a wonderful way to explore the court cards and their various personifications, symbols, and ideologies and I think you should all join in. To learn more about #TarotToTheCourt check out @rosaofswords blog post HERE and HERE.
For this series, I am going to base my court card interpretations as first person prose pieces in the form of advice from the energies of the respective court cards themselves.
I am the Page of Wands and this is my advice to you:
i. Unbeknownst to you, I am the keeper of visionary ideas. Allow my artistic fluidity to charge through my wands of power and grace you with their enchantments. Feel the spark ignite the magic that binds all creation.
ii. Feed me your ambitions and indulge me in the prowess of personal invention. Take the road less traveled, make the world your sacred space, there you will find me.
iii. Dare to be the leader, for you are capable of so much more. Give flight to your passions and listen to the voice within. Bask in the upsurge of your artistry. Open your mind to self-exploration but be careful to not let the embers of invention burn you.
