YAPPING ABOUT RANDOM ASS BACKGROUND CHARACTERS NO ONE GIVES A FUCK ABOUT IN KNIGHTS OF GUINEVERE BECAUSE IM BACK IN THE FUCKING BUILDING AGAIN
I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about this guy. A high school friend of Andi’s, who feels betrayed enough by Andi working for the crown to deny her service, and say he thought he knew her.
Also one line in particular stood out to me.
“Damnit Frankie, your ass is going to pay next time at Mahjong!”
This implies that he not only knows Frankie by name, but plays Mahjong either with or against her. Mahjong is a tile game, most known for its singleplayer version, but is usually played with four players.
Also, the fact that Andi knew right away to question whether or not Frankie got what she got legally implies that this is not the first time Frankie has gotten the 5 finger discount at stores like this. Also the fact that Frankie showed absolutely no fear and just smugly drove away implies she knows damn well he can’t do shit to stop her.
I have a feeling we're going to be seeing more of him, and I am all for this. Perhaps a Mahjong match vs Frankie.
For some reason I'm just noticing as I type this out that the O in NO is red. Probably a pointless detail but worth noting.
I would go into detail about all that Andi said during her rant, unknowingly providing Frankie with a distraction, but that's more an Andi yap than a Reggie yap.
We see a couple of these guys around; most notably here where they’re putting an assumed homeless person under arrest. People with better wording than me have talked about the implications of criminalization of homelessness and drug use, especially how the person in question does not seem to be armed in any way, and that confirms to me that Yep Those Are Cops.
One thing I’ve seen some people speculate is whether these are robots or humans, and I think they’re humans wearing masks. If it was a robot made by the park, this one would probably have recognized Guinevere. I imagine the reason that they’re all wearing masks is because this is a crownie job that directly deals with the people of the slums in ways that I don’t imagine they’re happy with, and the park wants to protect them from street harassment. At least that’s my theory.
We only see this character for a couple shots when Andi is leaving the lab and going back into the slums. Seems to just be your regular run of the mill mascot; is it based on anyone in particular? Idk, but I love the vibes. Silly little fella.
I find it interesting how this guy seemed completely fine (except for the blue spit) before they came up and spat on Andi, but after only a couple of seconds proceeded to double over coughing up blue blood. Some of this blue blood got on Andi. She apologized right away, and while my Canadian ass is used to just apologizing at everything bad happening around me regardless of fault, I am aware that this is not a universal thing. So I’m not saying Andi somehow caused this guy to suddenly start hacking up a blue lung, but I’m also not NOT saying that. Idk. It probably means nothing. But still.
Well, it's quite obvious that this guy has classic blue lung. The blue spit, blue blood being coughed up, and various blue spots throughout his body. I find it interesting that they're wearing tight black clothes underneath a baggy, dirty tank top. Idk.
Also one thing I noticed about Andi's reaction to him doubling over is she says she "hopes (he) gets better", which implies that this is something that might be curable.
Another thing I noticed which is more of an Andi yap, but later we find out that by this point she would have been fired, and yet she was still eager to defend herself working for the tower. This is the second time she's defended herself like this (first with Reggie), and I find it interesting how she defends herself more than the tower. She knows her employers suck ass, but she's just trying to get by. Not "as bad" as everyone else, but still benefiting from the exploitation. But this yapfest isn't about Andi.
5: Everyone else in this scene
Speaking of goggles guy, the fact that everyone here turned around implies that this is quite unusual. I mean, anyone just randomly hacking up a lung and folding over probably is unusual, but it felt worthy of a mention. Another thing I noticed with them (and maybe one background character from the scene with Reggie), is that all but one of them are wearing gas masks, and most appear to be children. The only one who is not is an elderly appearing man.
It would make sense that smoke is a major problem, and I imagine it’s known that “crownies” are at least partially to blame for it, with how openly the people of the slums go about attacking Andi.
Of course, this is a problem Andi knows about as well, as she wears her own gas mask. Yay, pollution! I know when wildfire smoke was eating up my area I wish I had gas and sand protection, you could damn near chew it.
Honorable mention goes to this kid. No other reason than I love the vibes.
Rounding them all up into here because yes
So we got these two up here. One seems a little quieter, just pointing out Frankie’s “lack of gratitude”, while the other is more snarky telling Frankie to chill out with Essence. This seems to be something that happens relatively often, with Sparky just having to give them both a Look for them both to look away.
They also seem to be people Sparky seems to try to intimidate, with Frankie calling Sparky “dramatic in front of the boys”.
And yet, after the Chaos, Frankie states that the encounter went pretty well. So things are usually Worse than this. Or Frankie’s just being Frankie.
There are at least two other crew members seen (but not heard); one sitting on top of the containers who appears to either have a noticeable scar or vitiligo, covering half of their face, and another one who is standing next to the crates. I find it interesting how they have a feminine frame (albeit extremely butch) yet still seems to be included in Frankie’s “the boys” statement. I mean, a butch fitting in with this kind of crowd doesn’t seem too hard to believe; especially since Frankie’s also there. Also it may be hard to see since it’s relatively hidden, but they have a prosthetic arm. So a disabled woman(?) working for Sparky. I wish to know more about this character, and definitely not just if they’re single.
Speaking of this squad, something I noticed in an earlier scene when Frankie first fishes out Guinevere is that Sparky doesn’t hesitate to openly read what appears to be a gay porn magazine on the job. This implies that they are all chill with this, since it’s never mentioned and treated the same as if this was a playboy magazine or something like that. So either society at large is very accepting of being queer and that this is not a threat to his masculinity, or the crew is just chill like that. Either way, I’m here for it.
Anyways I am completely normal about this pilot as you can tell. May have gotten things wrong, but I did this mainly in one sitting. Send help I'm so screwed
