Legit question, I’m not trying to hate on feminists or anything. Why is it called feminist if they’re for equality?

That’s a very good question and thank you for asking so politely. 

The word feminism was coined by Charles Fourier in 1837, a French philosopher who advocated for the emancipation of women because he believed society treated women as slaves. We weren’t allowed to vote, own anything, or work a real job. Women were ruled by their fathers/household patriarch until they married at which time they’d be under the rule of their husband. If a woman did not belong to male household she was shunned by society and had very little means to make money, most of them unsavory. You know the idiom “rule of thumb”? That comes from a running joke that started in the 1600s, and was still around in Fourier’s time, that said it was okay for a man to beat a woman with a stick as long as it wasn’t any thicker than his thumb. 

The point of the word feminist, and the feminist movement, has never been to say that women are better than men. The point is that women and things associated with women have been given a lesser place in society and we want to bring those things up to a place of equality. The focus is on the feminine because that’s what’s being pushed down. However, focusing on the feminine does not mean we’re focusing only women. Men are belittled and called “less of a man” anytime they portray a trait that is associated with femininity. If women and the feminine were equal to men and masculinity then that wouldn’t happen. Feminism is about raising up things associated with females to have an equal place in society as the things associated with males. It’s called feminism, not equalism, because the focus is on raising up not tearing down. Equalism would suggest that male things need to come down to a lower level so that female things can meet it in the middle. That’s not the point. The point is to raise up the feminine so that it’s on the same playing field that the masculine is already on. We don’t want men to lower themselves, we just want them to make room for us.

I really do adore this couple (even though they’re not quite officially a couple) but it’s all in the silent longing faces from Azriel and gentle touches from Mor every now and then.

P.S. I know azriel is supposed to have short hair but throughout all of acomaf imagined our tall dark and handsome spy master with long hair because I think it made him look a bit more..dark.

My Thoughts on Nesta/Nessian Criticism

I keep seeing posts about Nesta Archeron being such a good character, and about her being this super strong female, and how people want more of her in the next book… and I have to say, I don’t really get it. Nesta isn’t really a “good” character. She’s actually kind of terrible. I think Nesta is anything BUT strong. And I definitely don’t want too much of her in the next book. Here are my explanations:

Why I Think She’s Terrible: Nesta favored one younger sister over the other. She, as the oldest, should have been the most mature and the one to take care of her younger sisters, but she didn’t. She chose the oldest one over the youngest and basically left the youngest, Feyre, to fend for herself. But she didn’t fend for herself. She fended for all of them. Feyre kept those lazy bitches alive and she STILL didn’t get the respect she deserved. And the disrespect and lack of gratitude continued throughout all of ACoMaF as well as ACoTaR.

Why I Think Nesta is Weak: Feyre hunted in below zero temperature in the middle of the forest. Feyre carried home the food to feed them. Feyre skinned and cooked the meat. Feyre earned most of the money. Feyre chopped the wood to keep them warm. Feyre held the knife to Tamlin’s beast form to protect her family, instead of cowering in the corner with the rest of them. Feyre tried to protect undeserving-Nesta from an abusive marriage. Nesta did NOTHING. Elain did NOTHING. Her father did NOTHING. They’re all weak to an extent, but Nesta most of all, because while at the very least, Elain and her father tried to stay remotely positive, Nesta bitched and complained and was bitter throughout it all. I’ve been noticing what looks like some… favoring of Nesta over Feyre. Which is totally fucked up and wrong, if you really think about it.

Why I Don’t Want More of Her in the Next Book: My only real answer to this is the same as Rhys’s would be, I believe. I just can’t handle her for long periods of time for what she put Feyre through without wanting to fucking scream.

Oh, and side note? I don’t ship her with Cassian! AT ALL. He deserves better. Like, a lot better. Hopefully he can break through the ice and change her ways. Maybe then I’ll ship it.*

Now that my rant is over, please let me know what your thoughts are. I’d love to see if anyone else agrees with me or if anyone can make me like her a bit more.

(*side note, TO my sidenote- I am not anti-Nessian. This is not an anti-nessian post. As I said, I could still jump aboard this ship. I’m just waiting for the right moment.)

YES finally someone said it!!

I was starting to think I was completely alone in this, thank god I'm not!

I completely agree wth this post. I don't hate Nesta, but she definitely doesn't deserve so much love. Like, for what she did in ACOTAR and everything.

I get it that she did do some nice things like finding Feyre when she was in the spring court and she did some good in ACOMAF but none of it justifies her actions at the start of ACOTAR.

Nesta made Feyre feel like shit for years. Made her feel like she wasn't good enough. And instead of appreciating Feyre for all she did, she only cared about taking Feyre's hard earned money and buying useless things with it.

So unless she does a 180 in ACOTAR 3 and apologises to Feyre for treating her like shit, she will stay in the bad light for me.

As for her and Cassian though, I like them. I don't ship them as hard as I do some other ships *Ahem Moriel* but there is something there, and I feel like it takes someone sensitive and strong like Cassian to crack through Nesta's ice shield.
