KILL YOUR DARLINGS
The cover is yet to be revealed but the hardback of KILL YOUR DARLINGS is currently available at 25% off online only with code SUMMER26 at @waterstones - promotion ends today. And you may be able to guess which colour dresses I’m currently buying to match this cover…
After All Hail Chaos comes a finale that may shatter two worlds. Between the abyss and the ice king, caught in a battle of gods. At the edge of eternity, who do you love? Rae and her vipers must choose. No matter how the story changes, someone's favourite character is doomed. Perhaps all of them are.
Also in this trilogy: Long Live Evil All Hail Chaos

Eric: I don’t think we can mansplain, manipulate, or malewife our way out of it this time.
Marius: *cracks knuckles* Manslaughter it is!

Rae recognizing Alice on sight made me wonder. Are all the transmigrators put into bodies that look just like them, or are they usually put into the story in their normal bodies, but Rae was sick and put in Rahaela's body?
Just curious on the details.
No, not at all.
The bargain Rae, Eric and others made with the mystery woman is that you go in and are placed into the body of the person most suited to you, and get the Flower of Life and Death if you can.
The bodies often have a resemblance, as you’re put into the person most suited to you, though not always.
Marius recognises that Eric’s body in NYC while somewhat alike to his body in Eyam is not the same, and indeed when Marius sees Eric’s body in the past, in Eyam Eric is suffering from starvation that he wasn’t suffering from in NYC - and the timeframe Marius sees Past NYC Eric and Past Eyam Eric in is much shorter than Marius thinks, because Eric’s Eyam body is 4 years older. Eric is 20. Eric’s (as yet unnamed in the narrative) body is 24. (Yes, poor Eric went from a body suffering massive trauma from collision with a vehicle, to a body on the cusp of starvation.)
Rae is 20. Rahela, whose body she currently inhabits, is 24. Both Rae’s and Eric’s new bodies are significantly older.
The mystery woman specifically says that nobody has managed to return. It may be inferred that nobody has managed to open the door, or if they did, they didn’t walk through it.
Rae opened a door, and on hearing her sister’s voice on the other side, Alice walked through it. Alice made no bargains that we are aware of. Alice has no personal need for the Flower of Life and Death. Alice is instantly recognisable and not older. I had Alice mention she had to steal clothes - it is presumed by other characters so she could pass as a boy and avoid some horrors of war, but actually it is because her attire would not be acceptable in Eyam. Alice is not part of the regular people-from-our-world cycle in Eyam. Alice is a break in the pattern. Alice is in her own body.
… This will, of course, have fairly major repercussions in a variety of ways.
nothing would have happened if it weren't for you

the other Chekhov's gun that needs to fire in Kill Your Darlings:
ok so we know that the first time the God Child was sacrificed, his blood was spilled over Eyam, carving the Ravine and soaking the ground, creating magical glowing metal that could be forged into powerful armor and weapons.
and we also know the axe that killed Key is a powerful weapon with a unique ability to harm him.
so what about Conn's knife? the knife that cut Key's throat and was soaked in his blood? the knife Key gave to Rae with the instruction to kill him with her own hands next time? the knife that very likely has the ability to actually kill him? In the book called Kill Your Darlings??????
WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN WITH THAT KNIFE
Some moments in which jealousy may or may not be speaking through Marius
I don't think anything quite captures the difference between show and book Darkling like comparing how they spoke with Alina after the whole stag incident.
Show Darkling be like: "Okay, I'll go to her, try and talk to her, try and gently get her to see my point of view. She may be incredibly difficult right now, but I'm sure she can be convinced to see the truth."
Meanwhile Book Darkling: "Ivan, bring me the Sun Summoner, I'm going to talk some sense into that stupid brain of hers or I'm not Baghra's son! She wants a manipulative, monstrous villain? Then that's what I'll give her, so help me grandfather."
“I saw the atrocities and I said, ‘That’s my man and I support his hobbies’,” Rae told her sister, when Alice paused in her reading. “I saw the red flags and I said red’s my favourite colour. He’s simply the greatest and sexiest character of all time, and nobody appreciates him as they should.”
excellent acting by Emma, great score, but also why is she so upset to kill Otto? Is it just because she's never killed anyone herself before? Is it because it's Alicent's father? Rhaenyra has hated that man most of her life surely his head would be among the first on the chopping block? Why is she looking at Alicent like heeey bestie you caught me in an awkward situtation like sure it's not great but surely if Otto was caught he was going to be killed immediately, she only gave reassurances about Helaena Alicent and the kid
i was wondering this same thing and thinking there was something i forgot from the last seasons... i've been wracking my brain trying to figure out why that effected her so much. because she felt she was betraying Alicent?
Just thinking about the Cobra gloating 'I enjoyed that,' when asked about ruining a young man's life, and about Marius later finding out that said man had been selling people into slavery, and that the Cobra was also grieving a loss that wouldn't have meant anything to Marius at the time.
And then in AHC, when Marius is telling the Cobra about the worst thing he ever did, about destroying his father's body and spirit as he threw him off the battlements, he says, 'You don't understand. I was laughing.'
It's interesting to think of Eric going from a kid who believes Marius stands for everything good and true, to an adult who has experienced some of the same internal conflicts, including the righteousness you can feel being cruel to someone awful, and how it feels to lose someone. The whole point of having a favourite character who does bad things is to reflect your own darkness; their deeds may go much further than yours but their depths reflect how you felt at the time.
no thoughts head empty except for THAT moment in the jasad heir when arin of nizahl told sylvia to run away and be free while HOLDING HER TO HIS CHEST after she broke down in front of him despite how long he'd been waiting to catch the jasadis because “What appeal can reason have in the face of your tears?” GOOD GOD I CAN'T HANDLE IT
