Dennis hated being the one on the run.
There was that loss of control that Father didn’t like, he could feel
the frustration eating at edges of his focus. He was outside now, having
ran through a number of halls after being chased by that…big fucker, and a
few other variants, the cold rain that was spitting down biting at his exposed skin.
He worked his way around a chain fence, shaking hands grabbing at the flimsy
metal in the darkness, his eyes straining to see what was ahead of him.
He could feel metal under his feet as he crept along, careful not to pull attention
back to himself. Thankfully, everybody seemed to be in agreement with that, the
clutter in his head dying down a little as he listened for noise around himself.
However, that moment didn’t last long until he heard heavy footfalls charging towards
him, the same variant that had been chasing him previously catching sight of him
from the other side of the fence.
In Dennis’ quick movements to jump back from the fence, he didn’t take the time to
realize what was below him. He felt the foot that he tried to jump back on meet air before
the force of his jump sent him falling backwards, arms flailing. He was prepared for a
long fall, maybe land on something solid and hard. It was worse.
He didn’t have time to adjust to the water that quickly seemed to swallow him whole,
the water causing him to lose all sight for a few moments. Luckily, it wasn’t very deep,
his back hitting the bottom first. Dennis panicked for a few moments, taking in water.
Quickly he managed to find his footing, almost shooting out through the surface of the
water as he spat out the foul tasting water in a sputtering cough.
Oh, fuck, he thought as he looked around himself, the cold air all the more apparent
to him now that he was completely soaked to the bone. Dennis moved through the water
sloppily, wanting out of there, his mind starting to race.
“W-Water leaking o-out of the w-walls,” the brother spoke up, teeth chattering as Dennis
managed to find a low wall, “B-burns the l-lungs, t-takes–”
He interrupted himself with something close to a growl as he pulled himself up to a
stand, arms wrapped around himself as Father finally spoke up.
“Shut up,” he all but hissed as he looked around himself, “that fucker’ll be back and–”
As he glanced around himself, he caught sight of someone standing not too far off from
him, Dennis tensing up. Due to the darkness and his general experiences of this place,
he couldn’t tell if they were harmless or not, his fists aching from having them clenched
tightly as another shiver ripped through his spine.
Oh, what he would have done for a weapon. Still, he remained tensed as he waited to
see if this new person was going to charge at him or not. He had been fooled before.
