you smiled slightly, as you heard your teacher scream at you for being late.
“youre just so careless Hong y/n!! why can’t you be more like your siblings ?!”
the words didn’t really affect you much. you were pretty used to hearing them coming from different people. ‘y/n, why can’t you be more like your sister?!’ or ‘y/n what’s wrong with you?! why can’t you just act like your brother for once!!’. people always loved your perfect siblings, always gave more attention to them than they did to you. being the middle child is always hard for people, but it was harder for you, considering the fact that your parents always loved your siblings more than you. they got good grades, always participated in extra credit work at school, were never late to class, always knew everything somehow and so on. you on the other hand, were the outcast in the family. as a child you never really got much attention, no matter how hard you tried. little you, always tried to be perfect in everything just for validation from others, mostly your parents. you tried so hard just for them to pay the smallest attention to you. but it didn’t work. your siblings were always better than you at something. even if they weren’t, they’d always get all the attention from everyone meanwhile, you were the extra child. so you just stopped caring about how perfect you were in others eyes, they wouldn’t like you anyway. so you started skipping classes, being late, not doing homework and having more fun. you still got good grades, because the perfectionist in you couldn’t take bad grades. the teachers started hating you, but you got friends from school, and attention from kids your age or a bit older. you were popular now. everyone knew you as the funniest girl in school. it felt good, but your parents went from not giving you attention, to hating you. but you didn’t mind, as long as you were having fun, and got attention from your peers. but it still hurt…
if we skip to the present time, the teacher was pretty mad. it was your fifth time being late to class this week. you knew you messed up, but people were holding in their laugh, so it was worth it. as you were about to say some lame excuse for being late, the classroom door slowly opened. it was kang haerin. everyone gasped in shock. kang haerin being late ? that’s new.
the teacher didn’t let the poor girl finish as she screamed
“you’re late to class aswell?! haerin i expect more from you !! detention to both of you after school !!” haerin became pale. it was her very first time getting detention, meanwhile it was your third detention this week.
kang haerin, also known as the quiet girl in class, was the shyest girl in school. she never really spoke. she always sat at the back of the classroom. she also got the best grades in school. everyone knew her as the quiet overachiever with rich parents. her parents were one of the richest people in the country. her dad was a CEO and her mom owned a famous marketing company. haerin, being their only child, was expected to be perfect in everything. her mother and father were never satisfied with anything she did, because they always wanted more from her. she was the popular loner. everybody knew her but she didnt know anyone. she didn’t have any friends or people to hang out with.
as for now, haerin was standing frozen, with her face pale. her first detention was for being late. her parents would be mad. meanwhile you were just fine with getting detention. definitely not your first. you sat in the front row, meanwhile haerin sat in the back, ashamed.
after school, both you and haerin were going to the detention room, meanwhile all the others were heading home. as both of you walked in awkward silence (skz core), you decided to lighten up the mood by asking her how she was. not the best idea.
“fine i guess…” she didn’t even look at you. you thought she was just not in the mood to talk. as both of you got to the detention room, haerin knocked on the door quietly. you chuckled and opened the door, revealing a small classroom with five people in it. you waved at them as they waved back. they were your friends. haerin looked around, her breathing intensifying. you looked at her. it was obvious that she was nervous. you could hear her fast heartbeat.
“what’s wrong ?” you asked, as you looked at her with caring eyes. “you good ?”
haerin looked nervous as she said yes, very quietly.
“are you nervous that you don’t know anyone ?” you asked her with a quiet voice. she nodded. you had to admit, the people in detention looked a bit intimidating at first, but they were very nice if you got to know them. you took her hand in yours and walked over to a seat in the back. you sat down on the desk, as she sat next to you. as you turned to face her, you noticed that she was slightly blushing. you smiled. cute.
you and haerin sat next to eachother in silence for a few moments, until you managed to strike up a few questions and even crack some lame dad jokes, which made haerin laugh out loudly. as soon as her giggles left her mouth you heard how cute they were. you felt something… you couldn’t quite recall what. you’ve never felt this way around anyone before, so it was a bit surprising, but you shrugged it off quickly. you guys started a conversation, which lead to haerin getting a bit more comfortable around you. after detention you suggested to go to a grocery store, by some snacks and have fun. haerin thought for a moment and said yes.
“what do you mean ?! this is clearly the better flavor y/n !” she told you loudly, as laughter escaped her mouth. both of you were walking out of a convenience shop, after detention. haerin seemed to feel more comfortable with you, after you guys had a long deep conversation on detention, and now you were debating which milk had the best flavor. you liked chocolate, she liked strawberry, until both of you tried the cherry flavored milk. it was very fun but both of you have forgotten that it was getting late and haerin should’ve been home hours ago…
