Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve made a post on here! And how fitting that I decided to come on here to say goodbye to the fandom and the show that has brought me so much joy over the past five years. Yes, not eight, because my sisters and I started watching in season three.
I started watching because of Colton Haynes. Because he’s gorgeous. And then found out he wasn't introduced until episode 15. It was okay, because we all started falling in love with this murdering, dark, cold man named Oliver Queen. And the bubbly, sweet, and adorable girl named Felicity Smoak.
And then Roy came. And I cried and squealed and fawned over him. Still do.
But it did become more than that. It became a bonding for my sisters and I that we didn’t have before. We stayed up until three in the morning binging, then had to get up at eight to go to church. Ouch. We laid in one bed watching dramatic videos. We giggled at the dinner table about characters that had my parents rolling their eyes. (Even got my dad, and grandpa and grandma to watch for a few seasons.)
And I came on here and found some interesting people I ended up blocking, but found a few that I still come on here to check on and read their metas and look at their gif sets.
Yes, the show has changed. Yes, it didn’t go in the direction I wanted it to go at times, but at the heart, it’s still Arrow. It’s still about a man who thought he didn’t deserve love. Didn’t deserve trust. Didn’t want to trust. Didn’t want anything but to stick some arrows in people, all in the name of “justice”.
But it became more than that. It became about a man who became desperate for love. For trust. To trust. To bring justice, but in a different way.
And yes, it was Felicity. But it was also Diggle. Thea. Roy. William and Mia. At times, there were others in the mix who did help this man to grow into Oliver Queen: hero, father, husband. That wouldn’t have been possible without all those people in his life.
It’s a story that ... is honestly beautiful. Made even more beautiful from my friends on here who wrote amazing spec and metas (@cogentranting), also amazing metas and gifs (@smoakmonster) and literally the best musician ever (@austencello).
Thank you for the fun years on here! I will always cherish the moments of screaming over reblogs and tags. I think my favorite moment was when @cogentranting and I made a thread about Oliver bleeding out in 5x20 before it aired and honestly, I remember very little of it, but I remember it being awesome.
