The bard snatches the thief queen’s hand and places upon it a firm kiss. Her laugh is like a bell, clear and bright. She lets him hold her hand as they walk together, side by side. Upon her left hand, he has placed a ring. A ring celebrating the promise of their everlasting love. A promise made from the heart – but from which of his hearts? For deep within his chest, therein lies two discordant hearts. One heart that beats loudly for her with her hand in his… and another that tarries for the woman who is far from his reach. A bard with a heart torn in two. Which heart is true, and which is false? Who can trust a promise made from a fractured heart? Who can trust the promise of the bard?

Hello! I have a bit of a linguistics question: do you know the origin of the concept of "lifting/parting the Veil between life and death/worlds," specifically using the word Veil? I remember it coming from seances during the craze in the Victorian era, but I cannot find any sources for this, so idk I might just be misremembering.

Context: I'm considering using the concept in a project and I'm trying to avoid anachronisms as best I can.

Like most things in the Victorian era it was popularized by Blavatsky. I don't know where the term originated, but the idea of a hidden reality only perceptible by those with special mystical knowledge is ancient. Plotinus talks about seeing special noetic reality in the Enneads all the way back in the 3rd century.

Actually you could probably argue "The Veil" is present in Parmenides.

The Hesperides drawing back their veils here is a poetic image pertaining to the nature of knowledge. That the Gods reward wisdom with peek into the true transcendant reality.

My favourite part of fandom is the depth of analysis we all engage in regarding our chosen media. I love reading and engaging with people’s dissections of arching themes, scenes, individual lines, a fraction of a moment, and silent gestures. We have such love for a story, and we show that love by engaging with it. How wonderful and beautiful is that ✨

I saw these posts on Reddit and honestly, this is how I interpreted the scene too. I am going with this one over whatever Ryan Condal & co are trying to push. HOUSE OF THE DRAGON S03E01 Salt and Sea, Fire and Blood

The way in which I am fascinated by the horror of this scene. The symbolism and the implications… what it means for both characters… the horrible twine that ties both of their narrative arcs from season 2 with a terrible, neat little bow.

I also love the silent acting in this scene. How his eyes linger on her lips. Her eyes moving up his face, meeting his right as he begins to lean in. How her smile slowly fades. The tension in her neck as she swallows and braces for impact. They are both so stiff. There is no warmth in this kiss. The viewer is forced to sit and watch this tableau in all its discomfort. The last shot lingers on her, standing frozen, while her wide eyes dart frantically about as she processes the horror of this moment and can only wait for it to end.
