Will Luera

Will Luera is the Director of Improvisation at Florida Studio Theatre, Director of Big Bang Improv and serves as the Artistic Director Emeritus of ImprovBoston, Artistic Director of the Pilsen Improv Festival, Artistic Associate of the Chicago Improv Festival, Artistic Advisor to the Women in Comedy Festival and Part-time Faculty at Boston College. Will is co-creator of Healing Moments for Alzheimer’s, a non-profit organization that provides education, advocacy, and ministry for persons with dementia and their caregivers. Since 2004, Will has also served Healing Moments as consultant for Improvisation Education. Will tours globally as an improv and theater actor, director and instructor that performs and teaches regularly all across North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Humor Camp 2026

A few months ago, I was asked to serve on the leadership team of Humor Camp by Comedy Historian Lenny Dave, who sadly passed away recently. I'd only known him for a few months, but his passion for comedy was deep and infectious. We got into many deep conversations about the impact and benefits of Improvisation.

In his honor, I wanted to take a moment to promote the upcoming camp in October, which will take place in Jamestown, NY, home of the National Comedy Center and the Lucy Desi Museum. It's going to be a unique opportunity to explore comedy with professionals from various industries, not just entertainment.

Career milestone unlocked.

As many of you know I’ve been dabbling with standup comedy for the last few years. Taking classes, doing open mics, watching as many shows as I could…and it finally paid off.

When I walked into McCurdys Comedy Theatre last night, I was asked if I wanted to be in the lineup and although it felt like my heart jumped into my throat, I blurted out “yes.” It felt like I got the call to the big leagues.

In front of a Friday Night full house, I had a fun set! I started out nervous but once I found my rhythm it just flowed.

Thanks to Les McCurdy, Ken Sons, Johnny Hobbs, Sylvia Day, Tim the Dairy Farmer, Al Ernst, and to the countless others for their support and advice. Can’t wait to do it again!

Grateful to be featured as June's Leadership Sarasota Alumni Spotlight by the Greater Sarasota Chamber.

Leadership Sarasota was one of those experiences that deepened my understanding of this community...not just through the places we visited or the issues we explored, but through the people I met along the way. Sarasota is filled with leaders from business, government, education, healthcare, nonprofits, and the arts who are working every day to make this place stronger.

One of the biggest reminders from my Leadership year was that meaningful change rarely happens in isolation. It happens when people with different backgrounds, perspectives, and expertise come together around a shared purpose.

I'm thankful for the relationships, conversations, and opportunities that have come from this program...and proud to continue serving this community through civic engagement and the arts.

Thank you to the Sarasota Chamber for the spotlight and for continuing to invest in leadership across our region.

Honored to have completed the Chad 1000X workout this Veterans Day at Seaward CrossFit.

The workout—1,000 step-ups for time on a 20-inch box while wearing a weighted vest—pays tribute to Chad Wilkinson, a Navy SEAL who tragically took his own life after battling PTSD. This challenging workout is not just a test of physical endurance but a tribute to the sacrifices made by our veterans. It’s a reminder of the strength, resilience, and unity that defines us as a community.
