Apparently, more than a few of you guys, agree with this post. So, what we decided to do was just start a project like that.

The wlw sister project is a program that matches big sisters with baby sisters with both of them being wlw.

All you need to do is apply as a big or a baby sister. The information we need is your name, orientation and ‘observations’. By asking for your sexual orientation and then matching you with a sister with a similar orientation, we try to make matches more specific. We want to ensure that the advice given and received is the most helpful, and as we all know, every orientation brings its own problems. ‘Observations’ refers to anything you want to share with us. For example, if you suffer from depression or if you are autistic. If you want to be a baby sister, we will do our best to find you someone that has already dealt with something similar. We are trans and non-binary inclusive.

The only thing you need to have in an active Tumblr account. By requiring that, we make sure you are a real person. Feedback is really important to us. If you have any problems with your sister,  e.g. she’s sending you hate, or anything similar, write us, we’ll do our best fo fix it.

Is there a lesbian big sister program where I can adopt a baby gay and tell them they’re valid and beautiful and perfect? Because if not, there needs to be one.

yes, there actually is. join Big Brothers Big Sisters if you live in the US or Canada. you will have the option to specifically identify yourself as LGBT in the application process and to request an LGBT little, and they will do everything in their power to match you with one. this organization is fucking amazing, and a lot of chapters are hurting badly from a shortage of mentors. there are a lot of disadvantaged kids out there who need a friend and someone to look up to.

mentoring has a proven positive effect on the lives of children - kids who have a mentor are 55% more likely to later attend college, 130% more likely to hold leadership positions, more likely to pursue and maintain a healthy lifestyle than the average person, more capable of making good choices, far more likely to stay out of trouble with the law … etc. the benefits are huge and far reaching and positively impact the entire course of the child’s life. many of these kids are from rough backgrounds. some have significant challenges and some have seen things even you won’t have in your much longer life. having a stable and trustworthy adult they can confide in really matters.

if you are serious about wanting to help guide a young person, if you truly want to emotionally support a young girl who is either questioning or positive in her lesbian identity, please check out BBBS. it’s one of the most fulfilling things you will ever do.

I didn't know where to send my application through, so I sent it through submissions at least a month(I don't exactly remember, time is not my forte) ago. Should I re-send somewhere else, or keep waiting?

Send us a message so we know who you are and we'll try our best to track them down for you. We do sometimes have issues with people changing urls and becoming impossible to find so if we aren't able to find them we'll let you know and rematch you as soon as we can. -Beca

so ik this project is for big sisters to give little sisters advice, but what exactly do big sisters give advice on? questioning? flirting? etc..

Big sisters can give advice on anything their sister about and if the big sister doesn’t have advice on that subject, just having someone to tell is one of the most helpful things ever (in my opinion).

Does advice have to be wlw or LGBT related or can it be general advice?

Both is good and helpful.

You don’t have to be out to be a big sister, it would, however, be helpful if you’ve known you’re gay for a while.

LGBT-advise can just be how to figure things out for yourself.

Which wlw sister can join?

Hello fellow wlw sisters, We get that question a lot, so we’d just like to clarify. The project is all inclusive, all wlw can join in. Lesbian, Bisexual, Pansexual, Questioning, Cis, Trans, NB, Demigirl, Ace spectrum, Aro spectrum. We try to consider orientations for the match. So the sisters are matched on the same orientation as far as possible. In case you identify with multiple orientations we ask the sisters on which list they’d rather be put on for their match (Lesbian / Bi / Pan / Ace / Aro). So yes, if you are homoplatonic, homoaesthetic, sex-repulsed, romance-repulsed, lithromantic, quoiromantic, or any other identitity on the ace / aro community you are welcome here and we’ll do our best to find you a sister.
