these are all mine and my friends’, so if they resemble any of yours, it’s on accident, so don’t be mad or anything
seawings lil chin barbels grow as a seawing ages, so the oldest seawings’ barbels flow with them gracefully like a chinese dragon. seawing hatchlings would just have smol lil bumps.
when nightwings are hatched, they don’t have any silver scales. they’re just solid black, like no hints of other colors- like obsidian. no reflections either. hints of colors come in gradually in the first few months of life - and these colors echo whatever their surroundings are at that point. like for example, moon’s greenish scales came from her rainforest home. (so most nightwings would be red/orange/grey bc of the volcano) also nightwing dragonets don’t have silver scales at first either. they come in as their scales see more and more stars; basically their scales start mimicking the night sky a bit like a rainwings’ (but much slower).
something happened with an animus/powered dragon in the skywing kingdom to make them so afraid of powered dragons- i bet they have ghost stories of that event.
the male mudwings have tusks, a bit like hippos or warthogs. and trans mudwings would either have them filed/pulled or make tusks of some precious metal or stone. these start growing in around adulthood (~10 yrs old) and grow throughout their lives.
mudwing’s horns also are angled downward bc they lay around in mud and it helps conceal them like crocs. upward angled horns don’t make sense bc they would stick out of the mud- but the few mudwings who do have upward angled horns look like branches or small logs.
rainwing/sandwing/leafwing/seawing hatchlings and young dragonets typically have larger ruffs/frills and they look kinda silly and rlly cute.
sandwings can pump blood thru their frills for heat control- a bit like fennec foxes and their ears or those dinosaurs with the back fins. sandwings also have big ears for the same reason
icewings blush bright blue bc of their blue blood
icewing hybrids often have purple blood
darkstalker’s awesome twisted horns are a recessive trait from his dads side. queen diamond also had those horns. bc of darkstalker’s resemblance to his grandmother, arctic had yet another reason to hate him.
rainwings with vitiligo are incredibly iridescent on the white patches of scales (also these don’t turn colors)
silkwing wings have the same shape as the butterfly that the individual is named after (if they’re named after a butterfly)
some silkwings are slightly fuzzy
rainwing eggs turn colors (very slowly- like it takes a full rotation of the rainbow the entire incubation period)
leafwings with leafspeak often are serious introverts and sometimes prefer the company of plants to other dragons
leafwing body parts (tails, ears, horns, wings, fins) often look like different leaves
it’s not uncommon to have a leafwing with dappled-sunlight-like scales to blend in better; same with seawings
the undersides of skywing wings commonly look like clouds for better camouflage
skywings have a higher fire tolerance than other tribes (except for nightwings)
