ughahskdjs I was reading headcannons abt Rodydeku, and y’know those soulmate aus? With stuff written on their skin? I’ve seen so many versions on that, but one I’ve always liked is where your soulmates favorite nickname for you is written on your skin.
Ive seen a lot of funny “vaguely insulting pet name written on my skin by fate” and I’ve always found them funny, but this has a lot of potential to be really really sweet.
Rody calls Deku “Hero” like, all the time???? Can you imagine what that’d mean for Izuku, growing up quirkless in japan, with nobody actually encouraging him to persue his dreams????
Can you imagine, everyone you know either actively pushing you down, or not believing your dreams are realistic, but the one person you know you’re meant to be with calls you your dream as a *petname*
I think Izuku would rely on that hope so much, and it’d probably become one of the deciding factors for not giving up on his dream. He’d probably be hopelessly in love with his soulmate before they even meet, simply because they’re one of the few reasons he kept going.
(Meanwhile Rodys just like: “why tf is it in Japanese” knowing he’s to broke to ever travel halfway across the world to meet )
TLDR: Izuku is hopelessly devoted to his soulmate, who was the only one who belived in him, and inspired him
Rody tries not to feel hurt by the fact that they probably won’t ever meet, and is always hating on the concept of soulmates to disguise the fact that he’s a hopeless romantic buried under his jaded “let’s be realistic” exterior.
I think Rody wants to believe that there’s good in the world, but has been knocked down too many times to believe in hope, because if he naively gets himself killed, then there’s no one to look after his siblings
