“𝖀nless you have any…objections to the way I run things, Kyson?”
David never took well to his methods being challenged even if he longed for the challenge in others ways of his life…
The wolf’s gentleness, while appreciated by him-when met with the vampire’s resolve that was difficult to budge rarely ever ended well…A stubborn one the platinum blonde was to crack.
In that smile, the warmth vanished-in its place came something more tense, like it had been plastered on David’s face and any wrong move would’ve been enough to break it off of him. Never good when he looked like that-
“If you know then why did you say otherwise?” His eyebrow arched.
“Silly boy…” He crooned, that softness in his voice returning again. What once was cute and loving takes on a sense of belittling now. Not out of a lack of love from him-When David looked at Kyson he saw a boy still too innocent enough to see things clearly the way he did.
Believe him, the elder one knew the way things were. In this kind of place life didn’t always give the soft landing they all deserved.
“Tough love, Kyson. I’d given the girl plenty of chances to take it.” There was a resentment in voice, foul, cold and cruel in its cadence. “The easy way…Lured people for her to feed, reminded her of what she’s forgotten…”
He’d begged her, pleaded with her and it hasn’t worked before or now. “And it’s never been enough.” A crack in the composure-it was small but unmistakable, desperation and vulnerability coming to the surface. “She won’t listen to me.” He rubbed his eyes, for a moment under all that tough guy veneer he looks almost exhausted and fragile-wouldn’t get him to admit it though…That he felt that way at all…
With a sigh he continued on, readjusting his posture like all his quiet rage and melancholy hadn’t bubbled up to the surface for his boy to see. “Never does hurt to try…”
“No—“ The response came immediately, the werewolf’s shoulders drawing up slightly. Already regretting saying anything in the first place.
Kyson shook his head, swallowing hard as the familiar feeling of guilt and uncertainty drew a tightness drew in his chest.
“That wasn’t what I said, I never meant…” he tried to protest softly, but the words died on his tongue at the tone that David was using. Green eyes locked onto the waves that shifted around them, shame twisting in his gut.
This always happens, it always happened…
He hated when David talked to him like that, like he was some misbehaving pup that didn’t know any better. That didn’t understand anything like he did. Because of course, David had to be all so knowing and smart.
Once the vampire had his little rant and rave, seeming to finally calm down enough, Kyson carefully moved closer, the waves shifting beneath them. Their gentle cool a striking contrast to the fire of nerves that coursed through his body.
“I wasn’t trying to say you aren’t, darlin…” He’d say, voice barely above a whisper. He cautiously reached out, finding once of David’s hands and interlacing their fingers.
“I know you’ve been trying. And I’m sure Star knows that you’re just trying to help her…” His other hand tentatively came up to to trace his finger along the cool skin of the back of the vampires hand.
“You can just… be really intense about things sometimes. And well, I guess it just makes people nervous…”
