SHE KNOWS THE WORDS BECOME THEY COME OUT, a part of her can tell a thousand miles away before syllables are spoken. she’s no fortune teller, but she’s experienced. eyes float in the distance momentarily, not much is given in return but a glance. just for a brief instant. eventually her undivided attention turns to him, hint of a smile shot his way. ❝ hey, don’t apologize to me . . . this wasn’t you, you know that, right ? ❞

his eyes flutter with the relief that washes over him , his lips curl into the softest little smile & he lets go. he’s relaxed. it wasn’t him ? ❝ well -- ❞ he almost cuts her off. it was him , but it wasn’t. it was a part of him that splintered the moment the gamma entered his body.. she wasn’t wrong , exactly... in the very least it was beyond his control in a way it never had been before & he hopes to god it never will be again. his friends , his sister... they were right. he’s a good kid & that’s all he ever wanted to be. he is a hero.

sweet victory. sweeter still when it seems lately as if every week is a rough one. he needed a win ; to feel like a hero. he got it --- coming in hot with the assist & landing all the right punches for the sake of a stranger like it’s what he was born to do. it’s intoxicating. euphoric. his toothy grin & some mirrored body language meet her in stride , one gloved hand breaking position briefly to wipe dirt from his brow. ❝ ——but , what if i was just in the neighborhood ? ❞ one step closer. ❝ brawn , by the way. ❞

he charges with her , his pounding footsteps kicking up dust until he meets one of the things face to face. his knowledge of the hand is vague , & seeing this up close was... strange ; jarring , even --- like seeing a grimm’s fairy - tale come to life.
hesitation costs him the first move & hulk hits the ground , hard. he barely has time for a groan before about six of them are on him. ❝ aagh --- zombie ninjas... ❞
❝ hey , colleen --- ❞ he shouts , attempting to shake them off as he stands up & mostly succeeding ! save for the straggler on his back. one of his giant jade hands reaches back to grapple it , then aiming to throw it her way. teamwork makes the dream work. ❝ --- heads up ! ❞

“I mean in all reality it’s just a couple zombie ninjas, you don’t really have to bother yourself with it if you don’t want to.” Colleen could absolutely take down several zombie ninjas all on her own if he wanted to skip off and deal with more important … Avengers? Defenders? Champions? Cub Scouts? Hulk stuff.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐎𝐘'𝐒 𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐒 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐂 ---- a cheap imitation of what he’d hoped to be. if he’d ever felt like he’d been wearing a real one , it’d have slipped long ago. he feels like a child playing follow leader because the grownups told him to , being tossed about in a sea of uncertainty with nothing steady to hold on to. the whole situation is unsafe & he’s not sure who’s fault it is. his or theirs. emotions have been running higher & higher but he never thought it’d come to... that. he should’ve known better than to think brawn was a cure , that hulk was never again to rear his angry head. & he did , in a way... after all , he’s still him. he’s still hurt.
that had always been a possibility. a liability , really. banner was right.
now , in the harsh fluorescent lighting of some other dingy diner he sits big & green across from his mentor with his head hung low , drawing lines in the sweat on his milkshake glass. ❝ ... you called it. ❞/ @thoughtsmash
dang i’m thinkin heavy on wwh2 & how much maturing amadeus did across the span of just a few issues --- like... he went from being powerless against his own demons to accepting them , realizing that he can’t just get rid of his negative thoughts & emotions because if he did that , he wouldn’t be himself. his bad experiences have been awful , but he’s learned from them ; lessons in morality & heroism. he chose to remember what he’s been through & how it made him feel & be stronger because of it & i’m not crying you’re crying
