You know, I consider myself a pretty hardened horror fan. I watch most “horror” films and either really like them, think they’re stupid and turn them off, or laugh at them. Very rarely lately does one scare me in a way that doesn’t have me giggling and kicking my feet. Get under my skin in the bad way. But my god. Tonight one did. And since it’s based on Stephen King, who I usually enjoy, I was completely caught off guard.
The Long Walk. I was very excited to see it, and tonight I finally did. I knew the plot, of course…but was unprepared for how deep and visceral it would get. It was like they were purposely breaking the audience along with the participants…not to mention the characters living under a fascist government…it was WAAAY too close to home with that. With things currently going on in the world. Watching it made me feel hopeless and broken. I can’t even say “it’s okay, it’s not real, it’s just a movie” cause…well…the thought makes me SO unwell, but it’s not as “unreal” as I wish it was.
I’m safe at home. Curled in bed with my cat. Still shaky even though the movie was over hours ago.
I need a hug.
