I just saw Rad's latest tweets about Kipo's design and I have really mixed feelings about it, I'm disappointed by his back pedalling the most though. What do you make of the whole situation?
It seems to me like a case of saying something in a way that could have been said a WHOLE lot better. Kipo initially only being korean is an interesting development fact but also a tad unnecessary. I get his thinking in not wanting to claim she's blasian when she wasn't designed that way, but i think at this point it should have been embraced fully considering Leo being black and the fandom's interpretation. It looked to me like someone who was trying to be sensitive but in that effort made things worse, whether that be by fumbling with the words or not fully thinking it through. Its pretty obvious he only made that tweet about how "Kipo is canonly blasian" for the purpose of putting out the fire he started, but he really should have just said that in the first place instead of creating all this confusion.
Like if it were me i would have said "Kipo was actually designed to just be korean, but in late production we decided to make Leo black. Despite her not originally being designed as half black, it doesn't erase her identity of being blasian now." He should have iterated that Kipo as a character doesn't need to be seen differently because of this piece of information.
Rad Sechrist should definitely take responsibility for what he said, but i think its obvious he really didn't mean to offend anybody. Yeah, its a confusing and kind of disappointing situation, but I don't think it's worth getting upset over.

Lol kipo isn't blasian?? I understand rad sechrists explanation and stuff its just suprising. I don't have a strong opinion though, i think its more interesting than anything.

usually when shows do flash-forward scenes as epilogues, the spunky female main character will be all soft and long-haired and traditionally feminine
which carries the unfortunate implication that being gnc is just something that girls grow out of
but THIS show?
it was like "you know our protagonist, who was neither super girly nor super tomboyish? she grows up to be a big ole butch with short hair and a cool leather jacket."
