“Laura?”
Logan could smell the blood even before he reached the door. He hadn’t even been sure Laura would be here, but he had hope. The prison break happened while he was off crashing meetings and helping Jean. But whatever happened, his daughter was here and something had happened.
There was a lot on his mind, too. Taking Jean home was important and now that it was all over, every emotion from earlier was starting to seep back in. He was.. tired. But after he called out Laura’s name he didn’t wait to open to door and find her.
There was now living proof that the prison break had been a success. At least one person made it out. However, he found himself being left with far more questions than he expected.
He made his way over to her, stopping a few feet away– he didn’t want to get too close and invade her space. But.. she was coated in a layer of blood, just as he had suspected. And were those.. a few feathers? That in itself warranted some concern.
“What happened at the prison?”
“I didn’t kill Warren.”
That what what it looked like. Covered in blood and white feathers marred red it could have been very likely that Laura had ripped Angel to shreds. It seemed easiest to start with that statement, a simple clarification. The prison break was a strange mix between being blurred and in hyper focus. The air had been too cold when Warren had flown her home even with his body heat to combat the chill. Her eyes had been stinging and even though he didn’t ask she would have lied and said it as from the wind. Instead, he had left her alone. When she asked that he tried to keep Gabby from the apartment for a while he agreed even though Laura knew her sister would burst in any second. The obvious course of action when she got home would have been to shower off the blood and try to get her thoughts in order but instead she found herself sitting frozen on the couch, immobile and rooted in spot.
It felt like forever ago that Logan had asked to crash with her because Jean had a baby and was being complicated. Laura had agreed but had been arrested shortly after. It made sense that he was here even though she was surprised to see him. Arms limp at her side, Laura made no indication that she was going to move.
“The collar didn’t work because I kept using my claws, so they used something new.” It was easy to explain this to Logan because he had been there in one way or another. “A helmet. Tubes plugged in me. I don’t know what they did.” A part of Laura was still afraid she’d black out and see red. Her trigger scent was gone but that didn’t mean they couldn’t give her another one.
“Jimmy.” She finally looked up. “I almost killed him. He was attacking us, but that’s not why. I wanted to.” She wanted to be feral, to slice and snarl. It had felt good even though she knew that wasn’t who she was anymore. “But everyone escaped.”
