What's the longest you've ever held your breath underwater?

Probably it was when I was teaching myself to swim, as a teenager, by the time-honored method of "Jump in the deep end, and figure it out." I really don't float, so it wasn't so easy to figure it out - I just sank straight to the bottom and stayed there. I definitely spent a lot of time in that phase of "lungs are burning, I can't stop the bubbles," fighting not to breathe.
