I work in the food industry, so according to health regulations, I’m not allowed to come into work if I’m contagious. However, according to my boss, if I take more than one sick day in a row, I will receive a write-up and could be fired. According to modern medicine, when you have a cold, it takes at least three days before you are no longer contagious. Isn’t having a minimum wage job awesome?

Poetry Class

It always strikes me off guard when my professors swear, especially since I’m in a masters program. After years of private Christian schooling, I thought that cursing was considered taboo in the academic world. However, it is poetry class, after all, and just about anything goes in poetry. The poem I submitted this week was good enough that my professor felt the need to use expletives to express her excitement. That one four letter word gave me warm fuzzies.

Burning Question

I just finished watching 1408, and as always, I’m left with the same burning question (pun intended). If all it takes to kill the malignant presence in room 1408 is to set the room on fire, and if the hotel manager hates the room so much, why didn’t he simply toss a Molotov cocktail into the room from the hallway? It seems like an easy enough solution. Instead, he tricks Mike Enslin into going into the room, nearly killing him, all in the hope that he will somehow decide to set the room on fire while he is still inside. It seems like a pretty risky gamble. Even if the manager doesn’t want to do it himself, why didn’t he tell Mike that the only way out of the room was to set it on fire before letting him go in? It would have saved them a lot of time and grief.

Feeling Lucky

I was in my first official “fender-bender” this morning. Luckily, both cars are perfectly fine and the owner of the other car was calm and friendly. Less than two minutes later, we were both back on the road.

Today, I feel a little bit like Jack in The Shining. I have so much work to do on my degree, and I wish I could tell everyone, “If you hear the keyboard clicking, do not come in here, because every time you interrupt me, I have to spend time finding my place again.”
