Returning to the waters of the Rio Grande, this time in my studio with my water samples #water
BY JEANETTE HART-MANN, LAND ARTS OF THE AMERICAN WEST DIRECTOR We were all standing along the green bank, watching the greyish-brown muddy waters flow by. It was not a mad river. But it seemed stro…

Seeing as the hawthorns are blooming, I wanted to share a work from some years ago. Ruth Le Gear and Cyril Briscoe , read by Paul Gosling #hawthorn
The sharpness of the sculpture has fallen away even since I first saw it. Local people state that one visitor used a steel brush to scrape away the lichen to take a photograph and others have set about with stones and knives for the same purpose. The lichen actually protects the stone. The lines of text are now barely discernible.

Sensitive waters at SFAI
Sensitive Waters at the Santa Fe Art Institute
I have spent the last week in the gallery at SFAI, inviting people to come and be with the waters of New Mexico while they receive remedy treatments with Arctic Iceberg remedies and Irish Lake water remedies. It has been magnificent.
Daniel Tso touring fracking in Eastern Navajo Agency patchwork where we met Jason, Heather, and their 4 year old son who lived right next to the WPX explosion that occurred in July 2016. They were lucky to escape during the fires. No help has ever been offered to them. Who is responsible? #landartsunm #DOODA #waterrights #santafeartinstitute
Fracking in Eastern Navajo Agency patchwork faces an onslaught of new drilling and fracking, threatening the region’s deep cultural heritage, the climate, and impacting native communities, the waters, and the earth.
Graham Beyale and Byron Shorty of the Northern Diné Youth Committee where they showed us several community gardens they are working on. They talked about the effects of the Gold King Mine Spill and revealed their unstoppable inspiration and commitment to continue this work for their community. They gave us so much hope and inspiration after hearing so many stories of pain and heartache. They had both been through so much and spoke with such truth and connection to us. They had such deep connection to spirit and the land. The told us of watching the San Juan River turn yellow and how they couldn't water their community garden. When they were sent water it was in fracking waste water containers! Yet they continued and found clean water to water their crops and continue to teach and inspire and smile. They lifted my heart and led me to believe in a better tomorrow amidst all this chaos and pollution.
Our first site of investigation on the Land Arts of the American West program was the Four Corners region learning about Diné philosophy, Fracking and the ongoing toxic release of mine waste in the San Juan River. I'll be sharing photos and stories over the coming days of all we saw, the people that opened their hearts to us and the damage to the landscape. #santafeartinstitute #landartsunm #waterrights #water #newmexico
