Mr. Jules Vernon, a famous early 20th century vaudeville ventriloquist, his wife, and his “family” of dolls. On Christmas day in 1920, Jules went completely blind in the middle of a show. He still continued to perform for years after his blindness by being guided to his bench by a thread his wife set for him. He was killed instantly in 1937, at age 70, by being hit by a speeding taxi.
