PART TWO (leads to other parts)
Y/N’S POV:
Finally, I had gotten home. I had to first get dressed out of my blood splattered suit but it would all be forgotten in a few minutes. I had just about an hour before I had to leave to the restaurant Jay texted me.
It was a bit exciting to get dressed up for an occasion for once. Especially since I had so many options to choose from. I ended up choosing a sleek, black dress designed to grab people’s attention.
When I was about ready to leave my phone pinged with a message from Jay.
Jongseong: Come outside when you’re ready.
I was just going to call the chauffeur but I suppose this works too?
I quickly rushed down the stairs, to the front door. The cool breeze of the summer night greeted my face when I opened the door.
Jay was standing outside, seemingly bored and unaware, beside the passenger door when he looked up from his feet to me.
His eyes lit up and before he could trace my outfit he looked away out of respect. I flushed a little embarrassed. Hoping for a bigger reaction, it should’ve been obvious he wouldn’t care. He just began to open up to me.
I carefully walked to him and he opened the passenger door for me.
I could tell something was off about his gaze though. His gaze followed me more attentively than it usually did. It was watching too carefully.
A sweat began to form on the back of my neck. Did he know?
When he finally started driving the tension in the car was palpable. His gaze was focused on the road but his right hand rested on the middle console, looking for something to fidget with. I had to drag my eyes away from his hand make sure I didn’t think much of it, ultimately I ended up crossing my legs.
The restaurant was a nice, expensive place with live music. Our table was somewhere secluded and private. It was comfortable but at the same time he was watching me so carefully as we walked towards it that I started to feel nervous. It felt like he knew something about me that made me feel like I was naked. I wondered if he knew of my plan: to get information for my brother and then kill him?
I set my hung my purse on the chair and then sat down. Before I could move thw chair forward on my own the chair moved on its on. When I turned around Jay’s hands were on the wooden sides of my chair pushing it in.
“Thank you…” I muttered.
“You’re welcome” he replied simply eyeing my face, my reaction.
He sat across from me and picked up the menu to see what he wanted.
We were silent until the waiter came. The waiter wrote down our order and when he left Jay spoke.
“How was your day?” he asked as if he was expecting a specific response.
I cleared my throat, nervous. If he knew wouldn’t he have detained me or something by now? How would he even know-?
“It was fine” I replied
“Nothing exciting?” he emphasized, his eyebrow rising.
“How about you?” I ask changing the subject.
His eyes are still focused on me as he responds. His voice sounds as if he’s disappointed.
“Not good. I have this feeling you’re keeping something from me. What do you think about this situation?” he asks, silent after.
I feel a bead of sweat trickle down my neck.
“I don’t know why you would think of such a thing…” I mumble, I can already feel my cheeks burning up.
A smirk appears on his face and he lowers his face for a second, covering it with his hand. He scoffs. He’s quiet for a while.
“Jongseong?” I ask getting worried by his silence.
JAY’S POV:
A thousand thoughts are rushing through my head at the moment it’s hard to really focus on anything but her. It’s definitely not helping that she looks adorable, her flushed cheeks and her nervous voice. That dress is the worst part of it all. I can barely control myself from jumping out of my seat and falling in front of her. If I let myself to look at her for too long I know that I would lose track of everything and give myself to her fully.
“Jongseong?” she says and I snap out of my distraction.
“Are you sure about that?-“ I clear my throat. “Are you sure that you don’t have anything you want to tell me?”
I know I probably look extremely pathetic right now. Especially to her. It’s hard to control myself when she looks at me like that, like her whole life depends on how I respond to her. What could she possibly thinking about for her to be so on edge?
“Okay. Let me put it this way: please, please just tell me right now if you’re seeing someone else?” Because if you don’t I’ll find him myself and figure out why you want him more than me-
Somehow my question seems to calm her down. She sighs from relief and then her gaze softens. I can feel my legs weakening from that look in her eyes. I feel absolutely pathetic right now.
She laughs a little before saying “no, why would I do that? Especially when you’re my husband?”
‘My husband’.
Her husband.
I closed my eyes for just a moment laying my head back on the chair to savor this moment.
A sigh involuntarily left my mouth. “good. That’s a good thing to hear. I am your husband.”
My head moved back down to state at her. My wife.
I had so many other questions. About the phone, the journal, why she was sneaking out this morning, but for now I’ll take this as a victory.
“I don’t think the waiter asked but do you want something to drink?” I end up saying as a way to fill the silence, an excuse to hear her speak all over again.
“How about a glass of champagne?” she responds. Instinctively I call for the next waiter. They note down the request and by the time the alcohol comes so does the food.
Y/n seemed to be enjoying her food. That made me satisfied. As long as she’s happy in this marriage everything will be fine.
Y/N’S POV:
I leaned on Jay’s shoulder as he helped me stumble back into the house. I may have drank too much. Everything seems fuzzy and unserious. The pressure of this mission has left me exhausted and extremely paranoid. So I couldn’t refuse a glass when it was right in front of me.
Fortunately, Jay has no clue, at least I don’t think so.
Jay has calmed down ever since I answered his question. It worried me that he refused to drink any alcohol, insisting he had to drive us home. I knew he normally drank before going to bed so maybe he was waiting to privately have his moment.
“Jongseong…” I breathed against his neck as I said his name. I felt his body grow ridged at the moment.
“Yes?” he replied, sucking on his breath.
“Can you just carry me to bed?” I hummed, not able to grow the strength to continue walking in my heels.
“Mhm” he nodded. Hands slipped under my knees and lower back, lifting me off the ground.
I rested my head on his chest. It was warm and the suit he was wearing was soft. He smelled of cologne and cotton.
Just as my senses were getting used to the feeling of him he laid me onto my bed. It was as if I completely forgot he was taking me just to my bed.
He pulled the covers over my body and said something inaudible before leaving.
I wanted to reach for his hand and ask him to stay but I couldn’t muster up the courage.
JAY’S POV:
When I finally got out the shower and sat in bed I couldn’t fall asleep. Even when I went through my usual routine and my usual whisky. Nothing helped when it came to her. My thoughts were completely consumed by her presence.
After the second hour of just staring at my ceiling I started to get hungry all over again.
I walked downstairs to the kitchen. I opened the stove and set a pot down to boil some water.
As I was focused on boiling the ramen footsteps began to emerge from the stairs and into the kitchen.
A whine originated from behind me.
She was there.
“why are you awake?”
She shielded her eyes from the bright lights. She was wearing pajamas and her hair was tied up in a ponytail. She must have gotten up at some point and changed into something comfortable.
“Couldn’t sleep” I answered and turned back around to face the stove.
“Me neither” she yawned.
I stiffened, quickly snapping out of my own head.
“yeah?” I replied nonchalantly but she began to walk closer behind me peering over my shoulder to look at the stove and my hands began to get clammy.
“what are you making?” she whispered. I shivered. Why was she fucking whispering?
She laughed sleepily a little when she noticed my reaction.
“…cute..” she mumbled, clearly still a bit tipsy. When I looked at her she looked like she was in la la land.
“I’m making ramen” I looked back at the ramen and started to plate it.
I turned to face her when I was done. She looked up at me and leaned into my body, somewhat pinning me to the counter.
“Do you wanna share?” she asked, clearly flirtatious. The few previous glasses of whisky I had weren’t helping with my view of the situation.
I found myself leaning in. “Are you hungry?”
She nodded. I almost forgot how she was acting just because of how cute she looked just standing there.
“Okay let me make you a plate” I turned around to make another plate. She pulled away and sat at the kitchen table, waiting for me.
I brought the food and gave her then utensils. We ate in silence.
When I started to put the dishes away after she followed me.
As I was about to speak she hugged me from behind and I froze. The dish dropped into the sink and I shut the water off, quickly drying my hands.
“Y/n?”
“Mhm?”
“What are you doing?”
“Hugging you.”
I turned around and she looked up at me. “Jongseong”
Her hands reached for my face and I couldn’t help myself when she looked up at me like that. I leaned down and right before our lips touched I looked away from her lips, into her eyes, and was about to pull away when her hands pushed my head down so she could reach my lips.
“Why are you pulling away?” she whispered like this was a private secret. Her voice froze me in place, whatever she did I felt I would accept. I feel as if I would okay dying at her hands.
I’m looking her straight in the eye. The silence is continuous without end, she’s waiting for my answer. I’m scared of her. I’m scared of what she’ll do to me if I continue letting this happen. Everything feels easy to accept when she’s around. Her actions are so certain that i immediately want to know how she wants it to end. I want her to play me like a pawn. What will she do next? I want to know.
“I love you” I whisper back.
Her eyes don’t look away once from mine. I can’t tell what she’s thinking but one things for sure, she’s going to kiss me because the next thing I know is she says “good” and presses her lips to mine.

PART ONE
Y/N’S POV:
I flopped onto the bed, my phone landing beside me. My heart was racing still when my phone pinged again with a message from Jay.
Jongseong: are you free tomorrow?
My eyes widen as soon as I see the words on the screen. I immediately snatch my phone up from my bed and started replying.
Me: yes
Jongseong: can I take you out for dinner?
YES! It felt like I was finally getting somewhere.
Me: of course
Jongseong: it’s a date :)
A date… A DATE? I knew he was opening up but isn’t this moving too fast?
JAY’S POV:
Laying in my bed I looked up at the ceiling feeling a bit lonely for the first time in my room.
I caught myself wanting her to be beside me. My hands drifted to the empty space beside me. I always did imagine that my future wife would lay beside me in bed. That my hands would reach for her face, hips, lips, and I would end up tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
I never imagined that person would be y/n, a complete stranger, a business relationship.
I should have seen it coming from the start. When she approached me and told me that we should make a deal. I do have to admit that I did find her charming, bold, gentle. It didn’t add up. She was always so calculated, I never expected her to genuinely wonder if I loved her.
Yes, she did write in the contract that if I ever had an affair she would ‘deal with it’. Yes, she seemed possessive, maybe even a bit obsessive, but I never took her as a romantic.
My hand fisted the fabric and then pulled the blanket over my head. Sigh.
“…fuck…”
Images of her flushed face crossed my mind. Did she really love me? Damn it, there was no denying that she was adorable.
I reached for my phone and pulled it out to stare at her texts, feeling a bit responsible for her. After all, she was my wife. Not anyone else’s.
MORNING…
I groaned as I sat up in bed.
The clock’s light shined into the room. 5AM. It was still dark out. I’m not even sure how I still fell asleep last night. A pounding in my head made sure to remind me I drank too much though.
I got out of bed and got ready for work like the usual routine. My body moved without thinking twice to fit the schedule. I’m not sure how but something came over me and I stumbled into the hallway. The sun was barely beginning to rise. There she was, crawling out the hallway window?
She was dressed in an all black bodysuit and something shivered in me. I’m not sure if it was out of attraction or the fact something about this was completely unordinary. My wife? I knew something was off but such a lazy mistake of letting me see her leave in such a way made me think she was much worse at covering her tracks than she thought. Her acting barely made me believe she was as innocent and docile as she tried to make herself seem.
I shrugged this action off and instead carefully walked into her room. Unlocked? Lazy. It was easy to spot just a few hints.
A burner phone in her top drawer and a journal at the bottom drawer.
The phone was locked, as expected. Instead I opened the journal, flipping to the first page.
It was just bullet points. Notable dates without context or other information. Only one thing stuck out.
Burner Phone Contacts:
- Brother: xxx-xxx-xxxx
*only call after 11pm or before 5am
- Sister: xxx-xxx-xxxx
*only call if brother doesn’t pick up
Hm? A tab stuck out from the back of the journal. When I flipped to the end there it was: my work schedule, my coworkers, my likes and dislikes. Every single instance documented.
Yet, it didn’t seem psycho. It seemed calculated.
Was she having an affair? I mean, why else would she know everything about me. It didn’t make sense why she was going out of her way to do all this just for an affair. Was her brother forcing her into this marriage? Why did she have a such a strict system while contacting her family? Now that I thought of it, I didn’t even know anything about her family.
Then again, why would she have an affair when she so clearly had a reaction from our conversation last night? Was there someone else who made her feel desperate for love?
A possessive instinct began to boil in the bottom of my chest, which quickly dissipated when I remembered never once has she acted as if she’s mine.
My hands shut the journal and stuffed both the burner phone and journal back into the drawer.
Tonight, I was going to make it clear to her how I felt about this affair.

PART TWO
Y/N’S POV:
I walk in through the window. My phone flashes just as I finish crawling through the window. It’s a notification:
Jongseong: are you asleep?
Panic starts to flood through my mind. I had only left the house because I was sure nothing was going to happen. As every day passes I begin to be feel more and more unable to bear the silence and cold behavior in this house anymore. Every cold shoulder feels like another remembrance of how im failing this mission.
I shut the window gently, making sure there’s no noise.
A soft knock echos through the bedroom. He’s never visited my room before. A little spark grows in my chest, excitement.
I quietly rush to walk and open the door. He’s standing there soft and vulnerable. I’ve never seen him in his pajamas, or his hair tousled, it looks so soft I almost reach out to touch it out of instinct.
“Yes?” I mutter softly, kindly. I act like the docile wife I’m supposed to be.
“y/n” he replies softly, his eyes lined with something close to….pity?
Confusion flutters in my chest. I can’t think of a reason why he would pity me.
“I’m sorry for my cold behavior. I didn’t mean to hurt you, it was just so sudden- the marriage, that is- and I didn’t know who you were exactly-“ he begins to say softly as he stares at me so softly that I can’t believe it.
I tilt my head in confusion. “w-what?”
The shock in my voice is apparent, unlike the expectation I had of what it would sound like.
He looks away for a moment before meeting my gaze again and it almost looks like he blushes-
JAY’S POV:
Looking at her now… it’s even worse than when I saw the note.
…
A couple minutes ago when I got out the shower and went downstairs for a glass of water I had spotted a note pad with her handwriting.
“Why won’t he love me? Every single time I try to get close he just pushes me away. This is so damn frustrating.”
She usually just plays her obedient wife role quite well but I didn’t expect this. I never felt that she actually loved me. It made me feel slightly bad for her, after all I had purposely been giving her the cold shoulder.
…
She’s kind of cute… now that I actually look at her. The confusion on her face, the light flush across her cheeks. It almost makes me feel like she’s focused on me as much as I am on her.
I cough before speaking “ahem- sorry I just thought I would apologize for how I was acting.” I look inside her room, it’s different from how I imagined it. “Can I come in?”
When I bring my gaze back to her face, her cheeks are pink. Cute.
Y/N’S POV:
WHATTTT??? WHAT DOES HE MEAN ‘CAN HE COME INSIDE’??
“it’s kind of messy right now, maybe later?” I try to reply calmly but I can feel the heat on my cheeks.
“It doesn’t-“ he begins to reply kindly, smiling like he’s almost enjoying my reaction.
“-sorry I was just about to fall asleep so maybe I should just go back to bed-“ I quickly sputter out and then close the door. As I lean on the door to catch my breath I swear I almost hear him speak under his breath “…cute…”
My hands reach up to touch my face, it’s burning.
