February 14th is now a day for those of us left perpetually un-attatched

the ragtag crew who, like lost socks, remain un- matched

we are fully aware of our inevitable status of cat owner de jour

yet still we believe that we will find the "one" in line at the  store

on this day, we toast to our monotony with cheap, boxed red wine

and together in our singleness, on discounted chocolates we dine

though we have no heart shaped boxes or roses to display

we have the honor of surviving single's awareness day.

I have this peculiar habit of hoping for the best

I find myself thinking that maybe this time will be different from the rest

I believe in karma and second chances with an adamant air

I think all humans are born with the capacity to care

I want goodness and love to rain down from the sky

I wish every person had someone to hold them whien they cry

I know that my view of the world is naive 

but maybe it could be real if we all just believed?

A pencil on a snow white page

a ballet of keystrokes on a phonetic stage

my mind is dizzy with roots for prose

The electricity of creation tingling my nose

I look out on the snow topped grass

If only I wasn't sitting here in class.

I've tried squishing and squashing and forcing to hide

I spend night after night with swallowed butterfly wings

dreaming of the curve of your smile, and the way your laugh rings

I see passion, and fire and kissing your skin

I crave the touch of your hand, and your light from within

and maybe this feeling will retreat from where it came

I was born into this world with the idea of imperfection I've spent hours of my life over analyzing my reflection I've starved and sweat and poked and stretched and yet on my brain my short comings are etched my skin, my teeth, my eyes, my hair sometimes I would rather just see nothing there that damned piece of glass mocking me from the wall making me feel like I shouldn't even exist at all but no more cheeks streaked with acid tears no more nights of staring into fun house mirrors  I no longer will be a slave to an idea on a page I am so much more than a prop on a stage I have a mind that is free and so full of life  and a wit that's so sharp it can cut like a knife I have so much more to offer the world than my face I am happy and bright and full of womanly grace I am so much more than my reflection I am a perfectly perfect imperfection

Literally nobody on this earth has ever met the real me. Everyone meets the me that they want to meet. I adapt, I change, but I cease to exist. I am merely a reflection of the person you want to see. You may think that's a lie, but just wait until I do something outside of your perfect preconceived image. It will crush you, just like it crushed the rest.

Forget Me Not

Forget me not, my wild one, when all your days are through remember me and how it felt when I was holding you take with you all the plans we made between the satin sheets and keep the count of all the hours our heart has left to beat I won't forget your smiling eyes, that left me full of light or how you made my mind unwind and all my thoughts take flight. Forget me not my wild one when you lay down to die for when it's through I'll carry you to our kingdom in the sky.

Her voice reminded me of red wine. It was rich and bitter, but it seeped into your ears and stained the folds of your cranium, so that even your thoughts sounded like she was saying them.
