Just as Thor was about to scoff a reply, gunshots rang out clear below. A team of SWAT cars had pulled up and were firing at the mutants. He turned back to the boy and jerked a head towards the scene. “This may be the time to put those superheroics of yours to the test.”

Freddy nodded, face falling easily into seriousness. “Are you bullet proof?” He asked before flying down right into the line of fire. He knew he couldn’t save everyone, but this might keep a few people from getting shot. After all, they just i impacted with him then fell. “Don’t you see that you’ll kill people if you keep this up!” He called to the swat team. While he tried to look confident, it was also clear this horror show pained him.

❝ what is there not to understand? being born with a genetic anomaly suddenly calls into question the right to be accepted or denied by human kind? mutants can’t help who they are just as much as they cannot help but breath and live. ❞ her voice carries a slight edge — bitterness. ❝ i wouldn’t hold on to that hope if i were you. ❞

Freddy pursed his lips in a frown. “I’m starting not to, miss.” He paused. “I suppose your right. They do understand, they just hate anyways...” he trailed off and glanced up at her.

“And what line of business is that?” the god asked, one skeptical eyebrow raised. The boy appeared to be barely in adolescence and here he was, smiling as a battle raged on below.

“Superheroics.” Freddy was aware of the battle below but he had learned over the years that he had to take time to smile or else be consumed by guilt.

Thor squared himself ( as much as he could in midair, anyway ) and shot the boy a stern look. “Can you not keep out of trouble, mortal? First you dance with thunder and now you startle me into dropping the enemy.”

Freddy gave him a cheeky smile. He did not fear gods- they were the ones that gave him his powers and were his brother’s playmates in Eternity. “In this line of business? No sir.” He tilted his head a little. “Though I’m sorry for startling you.”

“I suppose that’s true…” He thought for a moment, shrugging softly as he smiled at the other, ducking out of the way of protestors pushing through and past him for various different reasons. “You ever done anything like this before?”

“To be perfectly candid? Nothing quite like this, no.” He had never been in a riot before- on any side. Somehow it was more awful when none of these people were wearing uniforms. It made the hate seem more real- harder to defeat. “You?”

wind pulls at illyana’s hair as she stands atop a building with her eyes cast down at the crowds but her face is meticulously blank — behind the calmness dwells a steady anger however and it burrows underneath her skin. it is not a sight the mutant is a stranger to but she finds it revolting all the same. ❝ perhaps i should stick them all in Limbo and give them something worthwhile of their fear, ❞ she tells the person beside her with a chuckle. ❝ but that wouldn’t be very peaceful, hm? ❞

“As tempting as that sounds, it really wouldn’t be peaceful at all.” Freddy sighed. “It’s just- they hate what they don’t understand and what isn’t like them. I hoped humanity would have improved by now...”

Thor held a particularly rowdy anti-mutant rioter at arm’s length as he hovered in the sky. “Do you want me to drop you?” he provoked, rage overcoming his better judgment. When he saw the flying boy from the other day whiz past him, he faltered and lost his grip on the man, sending him hurtling downwards. The god quickly caught him and subsequently lowered him to the ground before flying back up to meet the boy.

Freddy had thought that he would have to catch the man, but the god had caught him before he needed to. Which was probably for the best. As much as Freddy wanted peace, he was a product of war. Sometimes he had to remind himself he wasn’t fighting in one any longer. Maybe? He nodded in Thor’s direction when he saw him, stopping and hovering in the sky.

Miles didn’t need the heads up, his Spidey-Sense kicked in quick enough for him to clear out of the way before Freddy punched the protestor. “You’ve got a good swing on you.” He smiled, shaking his hands as they began to spark and fizz. “Thanks, by the way. Do you know my name? I can’t remember if I’ve said it yet.”

Freddy watched Miles’ hands in curiosity. He had never seen powers like that before. “Thank you,” he said before tilting his head slightly. “No, I don’t. But I wasn’t going to ask unless you wanted to tell me. Names are more powerful than people give them credit for.”

    his voice catches her off guard. there’s a small smile making its way onto her lips as she looks down to him. “ i suppose. though i do not mind not being treated human. i like being different. ” she adds a wink to her statement. “ what is your name? i am mera. ”

Freddy covered his smile with his hand. And then there it was, the old difficult question. Why did the Wizard have to put his magic words in his name? “Most people just call me Junior or CMJ,” he responded. “It is an honor to meet you.”

     “ now my friends is the time to stand together. u n i t e d. together the humans cannot break us. let us show them we are not a threat. we are not ill-minded. we value their safety just as much as our own. we are for the greater good! stand with me. let us show them who we are, in all our forms and colors. with each our own peculiarities and gifts. ”

Freddy smiled. He could tell this woman was regal. Her words made him square his shoulders back. “And remind them that we still deserve to be treated as humans, even if ‘meta’ is in front of that,” he added softly.

“Where’re you from, then?” he asked, a sad smile on his face as he tilted his head as he looked at the boy.

Freddy returned Miles’ sad smile with one of his own. “Fawcett City, 1945...” He trailed off. “Watch your back!” He called, punching a protester who was about to hit Miles with a bat.

“Uh – I mean, sure people didn’t like my kinda people in this time frame anyways, or even now….but this? What did we do to make ‘em hate us so much?”

“I don’t know,” Freddy admitted, biting his lower lip. “Back in my time, people with powers were just starting to come about- or be open about them. I guess people just hate people who are different from them....”

“You really think this outfit is the best for keeping peace?”

“Ha ha.” Freddy said, refraining from rolling his eyes. “If you’re that concerned why don’t you wear the suit you wear at the mansion?”

“Keeping peace my ass,” it’s mumbled as Courtney stands in the middle of the chaos, looking like a child lost in the grocery store. The amount of nasty things that had already been spat at her was too high, and she had to hold herself back from truly fighting anyone. Knuckles white from her tight grip on the Comic Staff, she glances up at the person next to her. “How long do you think they’ll keep this up?” the people seem to be never ending.

Freddy was used to slurs and insults being thrown at him, but that didn’t make it hurt less. His face was downcast, having been ostracized by many in the riots for trying to help them. It was disheartening to say the least. He turned to look at the girl next to him, almost surprised by her question. “I don’t know,” he responded. “In my experience, people who hate others this much don’t quit easily...”

“I appreciate the moxy, Kid” he said with a soft chuckle as he nudged him gently.  He cracked his knuckles again and took a deep breath as he surveyed the area yet again, as far as he could see. The last thing they needed was something else popping of. “Well, try to placate any protesters that aren’t violent, and restrain anyone who gets too aggressive. Just don’t swing on anyone first.”

Freddy nodded. He wasn’t too used to conflict deescalation on this large of a scale. Normally, when situations got this bad people were shooting at him. But this man seemed to know what he was doing. He supposed this sort of thing must be common in the future. “Should we help evacuate anyone who is just in the wrong place at the wrong time?”

Miguel took a moment to stretch his limbs a bit, as they always felt a bit tense before he was going into extensive use of his powers.  He looked around at some of the others with him.

“So…peace, we can do this while peace thing, right?” he asked, cracking his knuckles, wiping away the traces of webbing that formed around the backs of his fists.

Freddy pushed up the sleeves of his suit. He nodded, distractedly, surveying the scene. In that moment he looked older than fourteen. “Of course we can,” they had to be able to. If they didn’t it could turn to warring in the streets- more than it already was. He looked up at the older men. “What’s the plan?”

If Mjolnir was going to disobey him, he had to train it back to obedience, much like a pet. Flying seemed the obvious option, given the issue arose whenever he tried to travel back to Asgard, but whenever he so much as tried to head that way, thunder erupted from the clouds. The sight of a small boy flying this high startled Thor, almost causing him to lose his grip on the hammer. “What on Earth are you doing, child?” he called out over the rumble of the sky. “Ground yourself!”

Freddy muffled his own laughter. He couldn’t think of any time an adult- or anyone else- had been concerned for him when he was in his Marvel form. It struck him as funny. “It’s alright, sir,” he called back. “I’m well and used to flying in the thunder. It’s a good way to think.” He flew a little closer to the god so he could get a better look on his face.
