PATEMA INVERTED MOVIE!!!!!: https://jaypperris.wistia.com/medias/wvwf4rsb0k
Oh, and as for the volume, I did not try to equalize it because that ended u being an absolute disaster for the BLT project, so you may have to turn the volume up and down at least a few times😇
Anyways, I will start with the link to the movie followed by the links to all the individual clips. Some of the clips links have a description by them explaining certain parts/decisions/etc that I made😇
PATEMA INVERTED - JPP EDITION, full movie: https://youtu.be/x79-Azq8BR8 I have tried looking for other video hosting sites but none of them will upload my movie as it is too large, so hopefully by some miracle youtube will not block it (If they do and I can’t ever find another site to host it, I can always bring my laptop over sometime)😇
All parts (In order of creation) of PATEMA INVERTED - JPP EDITION:
Forever Young: https://youtu.be/lNnZ-sSrx7U Music used: 1)A sky full of stars 2)City Of The Fallen - Consuming Fire - Divine Power 3)Forever Young 2:19-2:21, just the timing of the “I don’t care” part of the song with the feels of the camera movements, just, wow. At roughly 2:56-2:58 focus on their hands grasping each other for the intended feels. At the 3:02-3:03 mark when it goes to Patema, I find that, that specific change in audio at that very moment helps to give a greater feeling of waving about/falling😯 For the first little while in Patema’ dream-like state that starts at around the 5:53 mark (Life flashing before her eyes) for the part for a little while throughout that part (Around the 5:53-6:18 mark) I had the voice matching the mouth but in a kind of off/dream-like way. At roughly the 6:00 mark with the ss sound, I was originally wanting that to be right as the door was completing its closing phase, but I preferred the feel that it had in the dream like vocals effect😶🌫️ At around the 6:04 mark, I had his mouth closed at the “drop the” part because I wanted him to say “are you going to bomb or not”, as in blow up or not (When close enough to the total vacuum of space, but, well, as we well know, that is not the case here). I was within less then a hairs length (A very, very close second) with choosing “are you going to drop or not”, as in, inverted or not inverted, to drop or not to drop😎 8:58-9:03 marks short as it was that one actually took a little while to get right with the quivering of his lips to all the tones with ever so slight adjustments to the speed. Around the 9:02 mark I was debating whether or not to have the more intense quivering at the sharper tones or before, but I figured before since at least to me it better matched both the fear and exhaustion, and Im very thankful for that since the other timings worked so beautifully😯
Bitter Sweet Symphony: https://youtu.be/_2gHXL3uUPo Within the 2:14 mark I thought the word eye would be good from start to finish when the student at the front ended up going towards the eyes of the student behind him making sure the feels were right were within the word eye and let going to said students eyes (The one directly behind)🥸
My Miracle: https://youtu.be/CwmIv7EjLHs A nice song to end everything off with😇
Anywhere the wind blows: https://youtu.be/fb6Lnbqf044 From the 0:56-1:11 mark, I figured I would make the mouth movements a bit off and try to work the not so cheery tone of that part of the song and mix it into the actual feels of that whole sequence and thankfully it turned out pretty good☺️ The point at around 3:23-3:26, I could not pass up that golden opportunity😁
Livin' on a prayer: https://youtu.be/ap9AT7_zvQM Roughly 0:13-0:14, OMG, the chain sounds!! At around the 1:54 mark the more ghostly like sounds came pretty much right as the slamming/shutting metallic like sound popped into play which was just so perfect😎 Around the 2:06 mark when the light starts flickering again, I was thinking of making the start of the first flicker to go with the Je for (Gina), but when I tried it, it did not have the expected effect. When I went back to what is was, I noticed that it kind of had a dreamy-like feel to it (Dream fitting in with the lyrics at that point in the song as well, so, yeah, aces) and the EE not being perfectly timed either kind of felt soft yet energetic (Just one of those times where having something kind of offset has an unexpected positive effect/s) and to time all the flashlight flickering so well was a true work of art, and the ending CH when the flashlight died at approximately the 2:31 mark, I mean, wow, what a finish🤯 Within the 3:04-3:05 mark the louder sound in the guitar riff really gave the large rounded corner part an extra pop, especially when pretty much just being followed by the kind of metallic slapping sound and the extra higher tone when going into the next part at around 3:08 was perfect for the extra pop for that particular area😇
Born to be alive: https://youtu.be/vbIf_ctOtuM Now this one is really is great for some good ol’ get up and go. At any rate, around the 2:09 mark I really wanted it to look like Patema was (In that deep voice) saying “born to be alive”, but unfortunately I was never able to get it to look good enough/right especially as there was other stuff I wanted to do😁
Do I have to say the words?: https://youtu.be/L2LWOo5S6xI At roughly the 0:33 point I wanted certain mouth movements to fit some wording so I timed the slowdown with a part of the song/words that felt right to me, and thankfully the sounds of the metallic slam fit in beautifully with the timing of the motions for the upcoming showdown so that I could make it all work/flow😇 as for the notably sped up mouth movements, they sooo worked with the setting/feels of it all🤩
Don't stop the dance: https://youtu.be/U-LIY4xTk1E Roughly at the 0:14 mark the sound of the chain when coming off was great, followed by the relief at around the 0:16-0:18 point. 0:41 the timing of the feel going into the close up of a part of the levitation device was sooo good. Around the 0:43-0:45 with the feels of the song to the lights is golden🫠 The 0:48 with the mouth speed change timed to the tune change was perfect. 0:52 mark I wanted it to sound like the metal weight was being slid out followed by the ting at 0:53 when it hit the metal surface and the vocal also giving a feeling of it bouncing🥸 0:57-0:58 Patema’ showdown was amazing for feels of that part😯 Just like with the others, there is quite a bit more that can be said, but I think enough has been described to bring the point home😌
Pineapple pen: https://youtu.be/Sc_PhDJ52Ys Some good lolz for 43-44seconds with a good comical tune fit with a not so pleasant scene😇 t roughly the 22second mark the teeth clenching is to represent constipation, ha, ha. Between the 0:33-0:34 part I did not have the peh sound match the lips so that it could be kind of a euphoric unexpected feeling towards the end to help also match the characters fearful/angry/defeated kind of mood set and it opening when the higher vibed sound comes up along with the placement of the mouth gives a much better feel for the surrounding environment, making it even better in my opinion😎
The Voice: https://youtu.be/WZqj6wu2coY I do believe that I’ve done what I thought was pretty much impossible… Seriously though, I think that I’ve really outdone myself with this one… With the roughly 0:37-0:42 mark with the breath starting with her in frame/view then the next not going towards him but ending with her still there just felt right to me as when the “be not afraid” went to him, it just seemed/felt right. Patema I felt was perfect for that particular part. The 0:56-0:57 mark having the glasslike ting sound starting out very shortly before the hourglass thing pops into view is to give it that extra shock value, plus the melting feeling (Which is perfect for this) when it appears😮 From the roughly 1:36-1:53 mark I was thinking that the cheery part of the song would not go well with that scene, but I did not want to disregard the song either as it was sooo perfect (In my opinion the best song/part of the whole thing, so I had to make it work, I just had to, no matter what), and the 1:39-1:40 mark the sounds when transitioning to the many red eyed scene was great too, and it went well with the somber look of the man villains right hand man. The 1:45 mark having the lower yet sharper almost ghostly like tune at the right moment during the process of the fading in of the robotic suited henchmen was great as well😔 But, anyways, I also got to thinking that the mind when it comes to trauma, it is not exactly unknown for it as a defence mechanism to try and sugarcoat bad enough memories that it does not fully suppress for the person to was a part of something they did not want to be a part of. That part of the song can also be kind of somber in the right settings which fits the main villains right hand man quite well along with the cheery/sunny atmosphere of that day/environment🥺 Plus the shot sounds when the scope is focused for a good amount of time (You also had the hope and cheer in the targets goals and of course the same would have been true for the surrounding crowd and his son before tragedy struck/the calm before the storm), then more shots as it is going into the next part with it all hitting said characters memories along with the word past (The shot sounds really help to snap one into that scene/break out of the flashback at the right time and with the moment within the P and A of past, it all worked out soooo well) starting when it goes back to the character present moment, so it still worked out just fine👍 The 2:05-2:06 moment of the larger part of the vessel towards the left coming into view with the right sounds made it feel more like it was right there😶 2:09-2:10 mark with the S sound (Kind of a sizzling like shocking sound) from wombs when Patema is just popping into sight along with the surroundings heating up, is sooo great🥵 At around the 2:20 mark when the word voice had that sharper ee sound transitioning into the ss for the opening of the switches door was incredible🤩 The 2:36 mark with the way and was saying timing that to the flash/feel of that burst of light was amazing🤩 There is just soooo much to say about this song/clip and I am just absolutely gushing grannies over this song and how I was able to make it fit soooo well with all of this. It is just one of those rare/beautiful moments/feelings of absolute perfection🥹
Spirit in the sky: https://youtu.be/qktDmzZddC0 Oh, my, gawd, this one took me forever, the subtleties in this one are insane and enough of them were at challenging parts and with so many stuff to change around having some other areas that I already worked on being effected did not help, ha, ha. Also, I left some choppiness at certain parts added to the proper feels that I wanted during those times, particularly from the 3:23-3:24 followed by roughly 3:25-3:27, then the 3:28 till the end with a beautiful showdown, that thankfully was handed to me in the fact that it was not choppy as for that part I wanted a nice slow/fluid-like/flow with the zooming😴
Your latest trick: https://youtu.be/sH383ns0N_E At around the 0:40-0:43 mark I was thinking of having that part last a bit longer till the saxophone started playing again but the ghostly yet kind of nighttime calm feel in the change of audio was what I decided to go with. The 3:06-3:07 mark I was debating between the nn from and and the oo from you for when the camera was notable started to flip, but I felt the nn had more of a chipper sunny feel to it while at the same time indicating that something wild was happening😮 The 3:30 mark during the knapsack drop and the sound of the word, absolute gold. Around the 4:06 mark I was originally going to put the word bereaved right when it went to the next cut, but both characters (Outside of the fear factor) obviously had those feelings. Around the 5:07 mark and onwards it was so much fun only having the instrumentals to work with in regards to matching the characters moods with them👍 Anyways, I cannot believe how well the feels of this song mixed with the wording (Both together, just want to make that part clear) go with this entire scene🤩
Treasures untold: https://youtu.be/O4rzIBhAXuI Music used: 1)Part of your world 2)Jaws theme 3)Suspense Music - Eerie During the third/final tune, having the main villains/etc movements being choppy actually helps to give a further sense of unease (If I did not want that effect it would have been very easy to just give a bit more slowness to other parts), which I feel is perfect for the final tune/clip of this segment😇
Industrial disease: https://youtu.be/GIC-em01l40 I had sooooooo much fun making this one, you have no idea🤣 The 0:20-0:21 mark with the nice increase in tone to the part that was playing giving the desired feeling for that scene. 1:10 I figured the letter s from a word was closer to the actual sound and the rope pull for 1:11 the ss from the pressure release sound being at the right timing when the rope was turning the part of the rig it was wrapper around😤 Pretty much right at the 2:25 mark for the word “words”, I figured having it right when the side of the face in front of the “ear” starts show would be a perfect time for it. For the 2:34 mark I had him release the necklace at a nice kind of fearful higher pitched point within the higher pitched tune😎 The 1:21 speedup worked great with the feel of the ee from the word be to work with the mouths wording to the song (Godda make sure everything always works/fits at least well enough with the sounds and/or feels to get the best overall results)👍 The first of the three footstep sounds at around the 2:41 is a nice little one where the second on commands shoes hit each other on the sides (As a nice bonus I got the squeaking/scuff sound at around the 2:42 mark when the individual nearest the door came to a sudden slowdown). The second at around the 2:44 mark was when the individual in the middle had his shoe hit the ground. The final during the 2:48 mark was when the heel hit the ground. I so love it when I notice/add details like this🤓 Lastly, at the 3:23 mark they ever really bang heads throughout that entire clip-it so I figured I’d just time it to when they started eyeballing each other again🙃
Holding out for a hero: https://youtu.be/_aUHOJMD_w8 At around the 0:41-0:42 mark I was considering having the loud sound occurring right when the teeth were closed/clinched together but it did not feel right🤨 2:06 What a beauty, the bullet hitting the ground with the sound coming at the right time to indicate the impact as well s the feel of how strong the, um, ceiling (To the natural/unaltered laws of gravity) is🫠 The cracking sound at around the 4:30 mark was a tough call but since I got some crumble earlier around the 2:50 mark, so I decided to go with the final phase of that cracking sequence😇 As for the “hero” part of the song the main character so far as I can tell does want a potential thrill/challenger to toy with, even if he admits it or not, that would likely be his version of a hero, a kind of cat with its prey mentality and a hunters thrill of the hunt (I have seen enough movies/etc to come to this conclusion)😎 There were just soooo many great moments in this clip🤩
A day without rain: https://youtu.be/-a-oPRInjts 😭… Anyways, the part from around the 1:01-1:04 does have choppiness but to me each of the movements fits the song well giving the proper feels, also going beautifully with the look in his eyes at key moments🥺 So, yeah, given the emotion behind this, a bit of choppiness actually helped with it, and yes I did try other speeds/options but I felt this just worked out best🙃
Courtyard Apocalypse: https://youtu.be/a_r4EKMMU2U The slow-mo choppiness from around the 1:25-1:41 mark helps to add to the eeriness of the whole thing😶
Mata sou ne: https://youtu.be/ejwasnjkIMs At around the 0:10 mark when it cuts to another part, I thought the eerily beautiful angelic vocal after the ting sound was pretty great. It gave a feeling of fear yet wonder as to what is going on. At around the 0:28 mark the door opening at around the second shaking sound with the changes in the audio just felt right. 1:00-1:01 with the arm/hand reaching out in a kind of choppy way brought out the eeriness yet beauty of that moment. 1:02-1:03 the fear and anticipation of the moment. 1:10-1:14 slow mo moment, gold😮
Watermark: https://youtu.be/3uAwG5VqAUU The overall slow mo is just what the doctor ordered for this one… Thanks god it wasn’t choppy, otherwise it wouldn’t have worked for this. As for the speedup at around the 2:14 mark, I mean, talk about a wonderful moment/timing😯
Without a soul: https://youtu.be/EB7wjg_YJJk Just a heads up this one does get kind of disturbing, but it shows how one of the two main characters is really feeling during this whole clip. Anyways, around the 0:33-0:34 mark I was originally thinking of having the mail villain just pop into into view right when the word soul was starting but it did not fee quite right, but after some toying around I found having that moment between the ss and oo sound was perfect🫥 The roughly 0:37 to 0:39 mark took a while mainly due to not changing the speed too much as the main villain was walking by and trying to place as many of the sounds with the movements and actions as I felt I could with everything still looking the way I wanted it to, just trying to get as much of them as I felt I was able to (Amazing how even just roughly a couple seconds can be so time consuming)😶
The Sorcerer's Stone: https://youtu.be/zR3Mezncmqc Around the 1:23-1:25 moment before the louder instrumental moment the eerie vibing tone when she stopped turning her head was the brief moment of her shock trying to let it sink in as to what she was looking at😨
It’s, my, life: https://youtu.be/LCIzv4aw1xE Music used: 1)It’s my life 2)Invincible At around the 1:13 mark if I was to get the drop exactly right with the sound effects I wanted it would have messed up to much other stuff (Believe me, I tried…), but given all the other things that worked so well, it is still a big win🥳 Around the 2:29 mark I was really torn between the metal slapping sound with the the sound and wanting to use that for when those 2 characters touched the rope rig (A crazily close second) but all part of tall and how their hands were moving towards then grasping the device felt like the better choice to me. The roughly 2:31 mark I felt the kind of metallic slap sound was great for very shortly after he got the handle to move faster😎 OMG!! The second part/song was an absolute freakin nightmare🥵 I go to change one set of facial movements and it alters other parts that I already worked on, and so on like that just given how precise on top of how many things needed to be changed (The perfect storm of nightmare fuel to be sure, ha, ha), so I had to settle with what looked the best overall, but even so, it still turned out amazing😌 Also, bleeding the end of the first song in with the beginning of the other was so perfect and almost made both songs feel like they were part of the same one😎
Eyeballz & throat: https://youtu.be/X74cz4tk_Lg Music used: 1)Marceline' Eerily Beautiful Nutcastle Haunt 2)Eerie background song - HD It was quite the adventure this time😁 2 sudden/notable slowdowns as well as 1 sudden/notable art looks like it is sped up, but if you look closer it blurs briefly (The movie pretty much being setup as if someone is looking at it through a camera). Anyways, it is great too because it actually kind of acts as an unexpected jump scare and allows me to fit it all together beautifully by having the rest of that part of the clip sped up to get out of the trance so to speak. I was able to match them all very well to the music and vocals to make them seem more natural, and to work beautifully with the characters wordings for the song. This short song before the second one is comedy clip #2 with 16-17seconds of a creepy/dark hauntingly/eerily beautiful song fit with an otherwise nice/emotional sequence, followed by a nice haunting/eerie sensation timed to the rest of the clip which bled nicely into the end of the first song😇
Save a prayer: https://youtu.be/Jubj_mGJcbQ Music used: 1)Save a prayer 2)Take Shelter Within the 0:08 mark I felt that the chime/ting sound working into that cut/scene first really helped with the mood of it. The roughly 1:52 mark I decided to have that scene start with a the single heartbeat sound instead of it just starting at the high pitched verbing part of the song (Starting at the high pitched part was an outrageously close second), but having the single beat followed directly with said high pitched part felt right with both the surrounding environment and the feel of the moment with the soldiers😵💫 The last/second tune (An instrumental) in this one is absolutely nuts as it works so well for both evil and good all at once and pretty much regardless of their emotions (It also beautifully brings out what the fear is like in anger and rage) you can find a spot in this tune and it legit feels like using a cheat code, but in a good way💪🏻 The roughly 3:18-3:22 was a really nice slow mo moment (The ss kind of also sounding like a zz followed by the higher I sound from in was a beautiful transition that actually called out for a showdown like that)😳 I also considered using Lemongrab’ famous “UNACCEPTABLE” line for the 3:50 marks rage moment, but I felt that it is so rare that you have the actual fear aspect harped on with rage and it with the rest of that sequence (3:50-3:59) just, fit, sooo well, and that this tune caught all of it beautifully, so I went with that, but I might have just went with the LG if the mouth movements were not too awkward in relation to it… um… maybe… But still, probably not, as the mood would not have been the same, but, either way, it was still very, and I do mean VEEEEERY tempting😎
Eye of the Tiger: https://youtu.be/4cQ1WL5b2o0 A bit of unpacking with this one… The 0:18 mark is great with the sound of the mask being flopped around then forced upwards against the air. The 0:26 the when her mouth starts opening the feel of the sound I feel matches her mood/facial expression beautifully at that very moment then leading into the fluctuation within the loud interruption to meet her next closed eyed smile expression at the 0:27 mark. 0:29 for the next big one, then the 0:30-0:32, great stuff🙃 1:27 with the tongue, I was debating between the the (For when she started to show it) and l sound, and I figured fining the right sound/part of the l sound was best as it felt right for that scene😝 Around the 1:57-1:59 mark it took a bit to get feels of the mouth movements just right🤓 The 2:00-2:06 point I experimented with matching the mouth movements (Including the feels of the elevator going up) to not only the words but the tone of the song at that moment, and I think it turned out pretty well and did not notably interrupt a notable number of the other movements/subtleties (Although not to as much of an extreme there were other times when I pulled this off with the feel of the scene/music). The 2:01 with the proper fluctuation from the word skill matched so well with the feels of that floor/beam coming into view. The sound at around the 2:06 mark was perfect for when the elevator was notable slowing down to come to a stop, then the 2:07 mark when the elevator stops (With that shake) is pretty great as well, so yeah, great stuff indeedy😌 2:22-2:23 with the vibe from the word tiger as she is transitioning to her childhood memory was great😎 Lots of emotional cues in this one that is for sure😇 Around the 3:23 mark it took a little bit to find the right sound in regards to when the hourglass thingy just started to come into view🧐
Hauntingly Mysterious: https://youtu.be/h1H5PQlq0uE WOW!! Just…WOW!! What an ABSOLUTE BANGER of a clip to finish this entire movie off with🥳 Now, for this one there are a fair number of subtleties, so all I will say is listen for the changes in tones in correlation to the feels of the cuts and scenes, including the taser like device and the dropping of the metal piece and all the offset eeriness of the whole thing😱 I will however point out one thing that did not go as planned but actually ended up turning out great as a result, and that is from around the 1:09-1:11 mark I was not able to get the timing spot on (Still close enough actually had a nice ghostly effect with the blocking and visibility of the red glowing eye pieces which is actually a very nice/unexpected touch) as having perfect timing looked too awkward to me with the sudden slow downs and speedups with the camera movements plus there were a fair number of other subtleties that would have been negatively impacted as well, but especially when knowing what is going to happen, as in people watching it a second time, that further adds to the ghostly like effect🥶
As for any slowdowns and speedups of the mouth movements throughout the movie, they are to match the fell of the scene during the time when I no not make it look as if they are singing along to the song as emotions is how I roll😁
For sudden speedups/showdowns/choppiness/etc (Keeping in mind that the movie itself naturally has a notable number of choppy moments, most be part of the making it look like the film, was, well, filmed by an actual camera effect they were looking for, but, still, it works) I was so happy that I was able to have them match the mood/s of the setting/s as well😌
Also having times when the vocals do not match in such a way so as to give a kind of dreamlike state and all the rest of it, including but not limited to (Of course) not having a sudden change as soon as the scene changes to another cut as sometimes I find that does not work as well🙂
Naturally there are so many subtleties in this project that I did not bring them all up, just enough/the ones I figured were worth mentioning just to try and get others to better see my thought process😇
Also, this movie having freeze frames moments and camera movements for some still images as well was quite helpful in regards to timing stuff. I never at any point cut anything out or caused an image to be frozen that wasn’t already frozen and so on and so forth (Just like with my first movie project “The Brave Little Toaster” everything was left in the movie😎
Between all the camera movements/etc and wanting certain things to be done at certain times there were also times when I had to sacrifice one or more moments to get other stuff to happen. Sometimes sudden speed ups and slowdowns during zoom in and outs worked, but other times not so much so, but oh well, all part of the process I guess🥸
