i was trying to find a the spanish dub of goncharov (1973), as one does, and i can't believe that they censored the whole apple scene at the market. they just... dubbed something different over it

no, like, you have to understand, the francoist regime was nearing its end, things were supposed to be less restrictive at that time

this was not 1942, when they censored any mention of the Spanish civil war in casablanca

this was 1973

and yet in the spanish version they are honest to god just talking about fruit instead of, like, the inherently human desire for knowledge and control

a desire made impossible by the ineluctable fragility of human nature

and the inevitability of death because humans just have so little time

somehow they kept that?? maybe they hoped nobody would do some math and figure out WHERE exactly goncharov was fighting you know?

and they also kept the whole "marx our saviour" monologue AND katya and sofia sharing a cigarette which is honestly one of the most erotic things i have seen in my whole life
