Character Spotlight #7 - Sykaris Dawnshadow
The Agent- Sykaris Dawnshadow
(Edit by Paijwen)
Sykaris Dawnshadow (Aka; The Agent, The Vandella, “toots”, that woman with the odd eyes)
The Agent’s backstory is shrouded by mystery, even to the mun. However, she enjoys offering odd nuggets of information on occasion. She was found by her cousin, Seridwen Dawnshadow (also played by myself) when she was nine years old, in the wilds between the Eastern and Western Plaguelands. Her exact age is more of an approximation as she doesn’t know her real birthday, nor is she 100% sure that Seridwen is truly related. She runs with it though, because she doesn’t have much else to go on. Although she was rescued by her cousin, her life in a household with a “family” was short lived. Time would find her growing up on the streets of Silvermoon, and oftentimes making her way through Quel’thalas to Stratholm. Begging, pickpocketing, petty theft and crime were what kept her on her feet at a young age.
After she and her childhood friend Jezielle, were caught stealing from a noble in Silvermoon, they were both offered an ultimatum; enjoy prison, or work for the Farstriders. The Captain that apprehended them saw skill in them, intelligence and something that he could use to work for the sin’dorei. While working for the Farstriders, because the girls weren’t stupid of course, Sykaris was on an assignment investigating a demon encampment that had sprouted up near Quel’thalas. Her work partner was caught and killed instantly, a green boy that was on his first assignment with the Farstriders. Sykaris, however, was kept for three days. Many things happened during those days that will remain unsaid, however, the tainted eye with the violet iris is a sign of what happened during those traumatic days.
A few things set Sykaris apart from others, other than her mismatching eyes. The demonically tainted eye offers her skills that she would normally not have, and her intelligence and resourcefulness are both traits that have saved her on more than one occasion. Without those, she wouldn’t have ended up creating the mechanical eye for the damaged right socket. Sykaris also has an unwavering determined will, she’s stubborn and won’t die for a worthless cause. She’s experienced torture on many levels, lost an eye, been used as a warlocks pet (thanks to her friend she picked up along the way), and many other ordeals, yet she always claws her way out. Determined fire, intelligence, resourceful, discipline and wit are her main tools and she uses them well.
I love Syk because she’s so much a part of myself. She’s my first true muse, I’ve poured much of myself into her, including my faults. I love her determination, and her discipline. I love how she can be unlucky and clumsy at times. As a mun who’s only RPing for about 9 months, she became my hook into this world and I wouldn’t trade her for the world.

The Child
Heading back to Briar Rose Manor was when she heard it; the soft crying could be heard over the misty fields which lay bare on either side of the road. In the back they were guarded by thick dark forests, twilight began throwing it’s darkened mantle over the world, covering all in it’s later autumn shadows. The fading sun offered little warmth, the only warmth came from the colour of the trees; the reds, oranges, yellow and gold of the season creating the illusion of welcoming warmth. She stopped the sweating horse in the middle of the road, it lay bare before her, and behind her. An air of foreboding clung to the dark lands, the only sound that could be heard was that of the night animals waking up, a few hoots from an owl nearby…and the soft persistent crying. Pulling her hood and cloak about her lithe form tighter, the humidity in the air clung to everything, causing the smoky white mist to dance in the fields and for her body to shiver softly.
Her mismatching eyes scanned the area, looking everywhere to see where the crying was coming from. She began to feel suspicious, with the recent attacks on some of the members of the house, this could easily be a trap. She led her mount to a nearby tree, wrapping the reins about a low hanging branch, she slipped into the shadows with ease, the growing darkness making it all the more easier for her magic to take effect. The wailing seemed to be coming from the north, so she headed in that direction, her hands on the grips of her blades as she looked for it’s source. She crossed the field, the mists making her feel colder by far, and slipped into the dark forest. Stopping at it’s edge to let her sight adjust, the violet flame from her left eye came to life, Zamaella along with it. The succubus could feel something at play, yet wasn’t sure what it was, which made Sykaris feel even more uneasy. Steeling her will, she moved further into the bramble and fallen and uprooted trees. Not a sound was made from the elf as she moved with deft ease through the darkness, the further she went, the clearer the sound of the crying became. She realized now that it was a child, or what sounded like one.
She finally came upon a large tree, the base of which was hollowed out to create a natural shelter. She peeked her head around, the long messy plait slipped out of her hood, the blades in it’s tip twinkling in the early moonrise. Within the tree was a small child, a girl with chocolate brown locks, messy and grubby clothes. She was huddled in a corner, crying and shivering, her torn rags offering her very little warmth. Sykaris stood, about to turn and walk away yet stopped. She closed her eyes, and a vision of herself, at that age, sitting in an eerily similar position on the row came unbidden to the dark canvas of her eyelids. Sighing, she turned back, and slipped from the shadows, the tendrils of dark magic easing away from her as she crouched by the entrance to the tree.
“Hello..?”
She said softly, trying not to scare the child. The girl looked up, surprised and scared at first, she huddled closer to the back of the tree and looked as though panic had just struck her like a fist. Sykaris’s brow knit as she clicked her tongue, pulling off her cloak she offered it to the child. The girl looked up with wide verdant eyes, after a moment, she scampered nearby and curled up in the residual warmth of the cloak and into Sykaris’ arms. The rogue sat surprised and unsure as to what she was supposed to do now.
Well…..you can just leave her if you like. She’s not YOUR responsibility.
Came Zamaella’s thought. Yet another thought came to her mind, one attached to the previous memory.
Perhaps not, yet….at her age, would you not have liked someone to have come by on a night like this and take care of you? Perhaps offer safety, a warm bed, and meal and the comfort of knowing you wouldn’t be left as bones to pick for the wild beasts?
The rogue sighed and pulled the girl in tighter. Her husky voice whispered to the girl
“Do you have anywhere to go? Parents? Family? A home?”
The girl’s dirty tear streaked face looked up, shaking her head, she looked as though she was trying to push away more tears. Yet she didn’t say anything. Sykaris nodded, her eyes closing, she picked up the girl. She must have been no older than six, and weighed as much as a soaked feather.
“I have a big bed, and a bath, and warm food at home. If you want to come with me, I’ll get you taken care of for the night. Tomorrow, it’s up to you what you want. Sound okay?”
The girl nodded, the smile brightening her face as she hugged Sykaris and whispered in an underused voice
“Thank you..”
They made their way back to her horse, the rogue slipped the child into the saddle, and hopped in behind her. She wrapped her tightly in the cloak and made her way to the Manor. She wasn’t sure how Ash’therion or Valanthriell would react to her taking in strays, yet she knew she couldn’t just let the girl die. In time, they found their way into the large courtyard, Wilson coming up to tend to her horse. Sykaris pulled the girl down and carried her into the manor, the child remained curled up in the cloak, a small bundle of petrified orphan. The girl looked up to the manor in awe and fear, and clung to Syk as though afraid she was being brought to her death. Sykaris didn’t look at her, yet entered the home, the warm candlelight greeted them along with Amy and a few other maids and servants that took care of all the Baroness wished. Sykaris smiled to Amy as she was greeted home, she looked around and asked calmly
“Where are Vala and Ash?”
Amy smiled back and pointed to the western part of the house
“They just finished dinner, they expected you back earlier. I can have a dinner brought up for you if you like? They’re currently in the lounge relaxing. I can take care of those rags for you if you like my Lady”
Sykaris shot her a look her eyes narrowing
“How many times do I have to tell you Amy? Just call me Sykaris. None of this “my Lady” shit….got it? Now, I will take care of the child but I would like you to bring up a nice big warm meal to my rooms yes, and have someone draw a bath. If you could also find some clothes that would fit her, I would appreciate that. Also, let the Baroness and Marquis know I’m home, and where to find me, please.”
Amy nodded as a few other servants wandered off to do Sykaris’s bidding
“Of course my Lady”
She hurried off to complete her tasks leaving Sykaris grumbling as she ascended the stairs to her rooms. She would spend the rest of the night taking care of the child, making sure she was cleaned, fed and clothed, and offering her a warm bed for the night.
They will never learn…..this “my Lady” shit has GOT to go….

I will always accept new roleplaying opportunities, I do not hold any of my muses back, they will react how they choose according to any situation. I love conflict and drama in my RP (Note; NOT IN REAL LIFE and not OOC. There is a difference). Without conflict the RP can and will get stale quickly. A character NEEDS antagonists in their lives. I love offering it as well as receiving it. As for anything else, RP with Syk to find out!
I have been waiting to post this one and really excited about it. The only way i can describe my feelings towards this character is as follows:
