“hello? it’s me. i was-”
THE FACT HE HAD TO ANNOUNCE HIMSELF SHOULD HAVE BEEN TELLING. And perhaps it was. It told a story she had hoped wouldn’t ever see the light of day, one that would exist only within the depths of her mind, where the darkness dwelled and the insecurities festered into silence. The portion of her mind that seldom got any use within the past years. Few was an understatement given how long their lives had been entangled, but truthfully stating the full amount would only further break her heart. Nothing was safe against the test of time, but perhaps this was her penance for trying to fit into a world she didn’t belong in. It was easy to feel as if she did. While harnessing no magical ability, existing within it and surrounded by dragons; doing what even the wizards and witches around her couldn’t, it gave her a feeling of home. It was the clarity in which she was special and needed.
Far from the monster she thought herself to be surrounded by ash and the debris of her unintentional crime. The one where she’d murdered her foster family with a space heater ever so close to the bundle of blankets under her bed, protecting and trying to hatch the eggs of her dragons because deep down she had always known there was something special, even if the world at the time had refused to let her see it. But if Ron was announcing himself, who else could it possibly be? After hours, Charlie seldom ever made it up their way, so the finger was instead pointed in the direction of the brunette Daenerys wanted desperately to hate, and yet had no energy to do so.
Hermione Granger had done nothing wrong to her; but to Ron? Well the fierceness kicked in and was only dialed down due to the fact that yes she had kept the news of the child to herself, but only resurfaced to inform the love of her life that their daughter, the one he hadn’t EVER KNOWN was missing. Taken by Death Eaters and You-Know-Who. While unintentional, she was certain that was the day she had watched the redhead die right before her eyes. The one she had known and loved anyways. Even if she hadn’t pieced it together at the time, there was no undoing what had happened, nor any making it better until they found the little girl that was out, lost in the world somewhere. If only Dany had him when that was her.
Everything would have been so much different. Her feelings had been cast to the bottom of the barrel, not even on account of him, but on account of herself. But it’s not as if she could turn away the scene before her, or the avalanche that was threatening to cover and consume everything she had ever known.
Or perhaps it had already done that and she was trying her best to remain ignorant and hold on just a few moments, days, weeks, months more. That was selfish though, wasn’t it? Trying to hold on when he wasn’t really her’s? Something that was confirmed seeing the two back together, seeing how they interacted and the glances. Knowing once they got her back, it was a family that needed to be whole. Something she had wished for and needed more than anything when she was that scared little girl. Ron was stopped in his tracks and she could hear his words dissolving away at the unexpected sight, but all Daenerys could do was straighten up and take a breath, calmly wiping the tears away from her cheeks.
“I think I’m going to go stay with Charlie for a while.” Give them some space.
