âCome now, whatâs money compared to friendship?â
âLetâs see...Everything?â she replied without missing a beat. âOtherwise you wouldnât be asking for a deal.âÂ
âHow about we make a deal?â
âAnd give you a cut of my profit?â Varasa placed a hand on her hip and inclined her head. âI donât think so.â
âYou donât need to get involved. Just walk away.â
âSorry pal, canât do that,â Varasa pursed her lips and shook her head once, âwalking away when the going gets tough wonât keep me clothed and fed.â
âWho said not to mix business with pleasure? Letâs talk this over with a dateâŚâ
âSo long as youâre paying, Iâd love to,â Varasa replied with a cheeky smirk and a wink.
âFar as you know, Iâm the best thing thatâs ever happened to you.â
âOh really?â The womer practically purred, flashing him a devious smile. âAnd what makes you say that, darling?â She leaned forward over the table, propping her chin in the back of her hands and fluttered her eyelashes at him.
âYou can sell me, but Iâll fight it with every fiber of my being.â
âBy Molagâs hairy ballsâŚâ the womer exclaimed in a heavy sigh. âI have no desire to sell you. In fact, I want to hire you,â Varasa shook her head in frustration. âI need you to cause a scene. Iâll even pay you up front.â
âI think theyâve learned their lesson, you can stop hitting them now.â
âI agree with you, but sadly thatâs not what Iâm paid to do,â Varasa replies with a casual, unsympathetic shrug.
âWe can run away together.â
âOh?â A devious smirk tugged in the corner of her lips and she inclined her head. âAnd where would we go? A secluded tropical island perhaps, where weâd be all alone? Or further north where weâd have to huddle together for warmth,â she teased, her voice soft and sultry.
âCome on, let me help you.â
Varasa stopped what she was doing, letting out a frustrated huff. âIf I do, will you keep quiet?â She looked over her shoulder at him with a raised eyebrow. The last thing she needed right now was some stranger to give away her position or distracting her.
âPlease, let me go. I wonât do it again, please.â
Varasa held the girl firmly by the arm, glaring at her with deeply furrowed brows and a scowl. âGive back what you stole first,â she demanded, holding out a hand expectantly and waggled her fingers.
âSweet mother, sweet mother, send your child unto me, for the sins of the unworthy must be baptized in blood and fear.â
âCome on, let me help you!â
âNope,â was all the Dunmer said before she turned on her heel. She had already dealt with too much weird shit for one evening to want to add a ghost to that list.
âThey donât wanna pay? Burn their house down.â
The Dunmer shook her head. âThey couldnât pay in coin, but offered something of equal value. My business with them is done,â she told him with a casual shrug.
âHow about we make a deal?â
Varasa narrowed her eyes at the man and crossed her arms over her chest. âWhat kind of deal?â She asked suspiciously, looking him up and down to see if she could gauge his character.
"It was simply a mistake on my part, it wonât happen again. I promise.â
Varasa clenched her teeth to keep from lashing out at the young woman. She seemed genuinely sorry, and while this had been a major inconvenience, it wasnât reason enough to be cruel to her.Â
âItâs alright, but Iâll hold you to that,â the Dunmer said, turning to look over at Nelle.Â
âI think theyâve earned their lesson, you can stop hitting them now.â
âUnless youâre footing the bill, you donât get to decide that,â she said curtly and shot him a stern look, pointing a finger at him.Â

âNoâŚIâm not,â Halldis admitted, carefully helping the stranger over to the tree, âB-But I can help get you to one if you want. Iâd rather not leave you on your own like thisâŚâ
Varasa eased herself down on the log, sitting stiffly as pain shot through her abdomen and chest, causing muscles in her face to twitch. âItâs appreciated, but you donât have to do this,â she said weakly, straining to breathe evenly. Sure enough, it would be much easier to get back to town with a little assisance, but she didnât know this woman.Â
