“you know you don’t have to stay at a motel when you’re in town, right? there’s always space for you here.” sam knew that dean had his weird little complex about getting in the way of sams family, but he didn’t seem to understand that he was an important part of the family. sam would never have gotten to this point in his life if it hadn’t been for dean. he’d always had his back, saved his life, brought him back to life. he’d seen him through hell and back. dean was a part of this family, no matter how often he was away. “should get her here for christmas, make a real occasion of it. you too. maybe i can convince cas to stay around for more than ten minutes at a time.” sam said, putting his chicken salad down on the coffee table. a proper family christmas, that would be nice. parker was old enough this year to really enjoy it, and understand the concept. sam would try and not ruin the christmas dinner. everyone together, and happy. sam watched dean and parker interact with a smile on his face, he was so glad that his brother had come back to visit, for her sake. “she misses you when you’re not here, you know?” he said, turning eyes onto dean. “when she hears your voice, or sees a picture of you.”
“i sleep naked like a starfish since i stopped having to motel bunk with you.” he smirked, figuring that was enough to get sam to back up. dean appreciated the offer and maybe he’d take him up on it sometime but honestly, for him personally he felt ike he would be intruding a little. besides, he liked his own space, the freedom to drink till he passed out and leave empty bottles and take away packets on the floor without judgement. “yeah, we can roast one of the many creatures here on a stick over a big caveman fire and hope its mother doesn’t come to bite our asses while we’re drinking out eggnog.” he raised a brow. sam knew how he felt about this town, he only stayed here in intervals and it was only for sam. “she’s got alex and claire now, this town is the last place they should be. especially claire, she fancies herself the real-life buffy lately, been gettin; herself into all sorts of trouble.” he chuckled, mainly because it actually made him feel kinda like a proud dad. dean chomped on the last bite of his burger, turning his eyes to sam, then back to parker. he wanted to make a dumb comment about how she was too young to miss him, or really have any idea who he was other than a face on a mobile, but he didn’t. mainly because he liked to think it was true, that she did know who he was. “yeah, yeah, i get it. i’m not around enough.” dean sighed quietly. “i’ll work on it. by the time she starts talkin’ she gotta know how to say ‘burger good, salad bad’ and i’m thinkin it’s only me and gen who’s gonna teach her that.”
