OLIVER JACKSON-COHEN as Will Taylor in WILDERNESS (2023)
i used to think i was smart, but you made me look so naive / stevie ellie
i don't mean to, i don't mean to, i don't mean to!
There's a horrid, sticky, dark part of him that wants to shake her and say good! It's about time somebody woke you up! It's time you see the truth! Don't depend on me, don't look at me with the big sad eyes that make him want to cry and scream and be a better man!
(He likes his wallowing. Stevie likes the grimy oil under his fingernails and the way people cross the street and won't make eye contact, he likes the way people are afraid to ask him how he's doing. Likes it enough that it makes him forget how much he fucking hates it.)
"No, baby," a habit, one formed what feels like a thousand years ago, "you did that all on your own. We've been going in circles for so long, I don't even remember what you hate me for anymore. Come on -- be honest, you wouldn't look twice at me if I was just like anybody else. If I was one of those fucking clean cut finance morons -- I'm dirty and you liked it. Don't put it on me like you didn't know who I was. Like you haven't always known who I am."
She used to like being on his motorcycle, in his car. He knows she did. Didn't she? Didn't she use to smile and laugh when he went too fast? Didn't they use to talk until the late AM shooting the shit? Didn't they hold hands at parties and by the lake and dance around it all, even before they ever really touched each other?
There's no real bite in his tone and steps close, ducking to look her in the eye.
"You're the only one who's ever known who I am."

ALEX HATES THE SMELL OF CIGARETTE SMOKE. They prefer vapes—even the clunky ones, even the obnoxiously fruity ones, the ones that make your vision all cloudy for a few seconds too long.
But living their life, accompanying people on smoke breaks is sort of just a thing that gets put up with. Being so close with Stevie Danvers—despite the consequences—these are the sort of things that you pardon.
They wipe under their nose with a tissue, catching snot and blood and bloody snot. They shrug loosely, try to mirror Stevie's crooked smile. Maybe they are just looking for lessons.
"Tell me how to not feel so guilty," they mutter, getting straight to the point, and quick. "You must not feel guilty. Right?"
(you think he doesn't feel the crush of hard disapproval, of boring stares and the harsh, hushed words of his brothers and sister when they won't leave him alone in a room with their laptops or their phones or their wallets? do you think it doesn't hurt? that it doesn't make him want to peel off his skin and drown himself in whatever booze he can get his hands? fill his bloodstream with anything at all that'll make him feel anything other than guilt?)
"I just live my life. Other folks wanna get bent out of shape about it, I can't help it. I can't change it. Most people have made up their mind about me before I even so much as say a damn word. Shit --" he takes a swig of the beer bottle hanging loose in his fingers, sloppy. "-- how many times has Ezra told you that I ain't shit? I don't feel guilty for living my fucking life."

in another universe, my window is open and im laying on my floor. i am 12 years old. nothing bad has happened to me.
how do you lie without flinching? — stevie alex
How do you lie without flinching? Stevie just stares for a long moment. Is it a skill? A talent? His father always said it was a necessity, that the white lies can sometimes save time or space or feelings, that it could be a kindness. Stevie keeps his worst instincts hidden from his mother, keeps his trouble off Ellie's doorstep as much as he can. Isn't that a kindness? Lying isn't easy but it comes so naturally… does that make him a monster? In all fairness to Alex, they don't seem to be accusatory. It seems more akin to professional curiosity. Perhaps they want for nothing more than a lesson in sinning.
Stevie takes a deep drag from his cigarette, itches at the inside of his arm, “I don’t know what you mean.” An easy lie, telling on himself with a smirk cocking up the corner of his mouth. “What’re you looking for, Al?”

it’s a hard way. it’s uphill all the way.
VAMPIRE.
vampire lyrics meme.
Hate to give the satisfaction
How's the castle built off people you pretend to care about?
Look at you, cool guy, you got it
I see the parties and the diamonds sometimes when I close my eyes
Six months of torture you sold as some forbidden paradise
I loved you truly
Gotta laugh at the stupidity
'Cause I've made some real big mistakes
'Cause I've made some real big mistakes but you make the worst one look fine
I should've known it was strange
I used to think I was smart
I used to think I was smart, but you made me look so naive
You sunk your teeth into me
Bloodsucker
Bleedin' me dry, like a goddamn vampire
Every girl I ever talked to told me you were bad, bad news
You called them crazy, God
I hate the way I called them crazy too
You're so convincing
How do you lie without flinching?
what a fucked-up little thrill
Can't figure out just how you do it
Can't figure out just how you do it, and God knows I never will
'Girls your age know better
You said it was true love, but wouldn't that be hard?
You said it was true love,
You can't love anyone, 'cause that would mean you had a heart
I tried you help you out, now I know that I can't
how you think's the kind of thing I'll never understand
