A place to keep my pieces

I loved you like I loved the ocean on the sands

Surrounding me and washing me clean of everything I thought i could never be

But when you left I drowned in your words

Unable to breathe without them suffocating me all over again

And I had to escape

I ran through the wooded trees to a place where the ocean couldn't find me

I placed myself in mountains that towered above

Where the ocean was no more than a musing daydream

I could finally breathe

I learned from the new air

Washing the salt from my skin

I unlearned the love that had drowned me

Placing my affection instead in the earth and my place in it

You showed me the way love should be

But i no longer want to be submerged in you

I've learned now to live without you

And when I next see you I will be able to wish you all the freedom I've found far from you

I cried rivers that tried to wash you away

You had left but pieces of you remained

Shards of glass from when we broke apart stayed buried in my chest

I tried picking them out as I drove off

Begging for you to be left all those miles away

But I still think of you

As you sit with my friends

And you laugh and their jokes

They never lost you like I did

I still smell you on strangers passing

I see your fire in them

And in everyone I meet I search for pieces of you

Hoping to fill the spaces you left in me

Or maybe just to forget you completely

You made me feel something

Something that seems so mundane

Until you account for all of the nights I collapsed into myself

Retreating from anything real

But with you it was always brimming and flowing

The way you step into the oceans waves

And you feel for a moment as if it will overcome you

But at the same time the sun beams

And the salt lingers

As if I could escape for a moment from every other thing

While still feeling so deeply

Imagine moving yourself into this large stone house. It takes a while to finally tell people your moving because everyone just assumed your whole life everyone assumed you would live in a glass house like everyone  else they knew. You were supposed to move into a beautiful glass house, but you had bought this quartz house that you knew you liked better. It fit all of your things, and it suited you. But then you had to tell everyone about the house and most of your stuff was already moved in even though no one seemed to notice until you told them. And then they would start to notice that your stuff was all missing and it all would make sense to them. But they were a little confused why you would want to pick a quartz house and why you couldn't just live in a glass house like everyone else. But they never mentioned it. And they would visit and they loved your house and they saw how happy you were and they realized that it was your choice. And finally all of your stuff is moved in, and you meet other people in quartz houses of all shades and colors. And even if it isn't that different and doesn't make any real impact in your quality of life because its just a house, it makes you stand out a little. But youre so settled in the way you live that you can't even imagine your life if you hadn't moved, because you know you would have hated a glass house. Then one day you notice that your house has a glass window. Just a small window right in the bedroom that looks out into a forest so no one can see it unless you're inside the room. You could easily hide it because no one would ever know if you didn't tell them. You could cover it up and forget about it. You were so busy telling everyone that you didn't want a glass house at all that you didn't realize that your house had a small piece of glass in it too. You were never against glass you just wanted quartz so bad that you felt the need to prove that's what you wanted with all of your being. But maybe you've always wanted just a little piece of glass. Maybe sexualities can have little exceptions. How can i preach against glass when that window isn't going anywhere. Even if i never open it, that doesn't mean it isn't there.

I’m not moving but renovating

I thought I knew who I was Maybe i'm still figuring it out

Maybe I always will be

What if I give up what I have Relinquish my place in these clouds To find that this new pedestal doesn’t stand as tall

They say you grow up and stop playing pretend That when you get older your imagination stops inventing games for you to live But you must not have believed in that Because you were so good at pretending I meant something to you
