one of the most terrifying things about slowly becoming a better person is looking back on how you behaved in the past through the lens of your new understanding, and being genuinely helpless to rectify it.
the truth is, i have trouble remembering how i treated people even three or four years ago. really remembering how things went down in emotionally fraught situations. not sure how much of the shame i feel is self-hatred talking and how much is justified.
it helps me to remember that all you can do is keep setting yourself up to making yourself proud in the present and into the future.
but it’s troubling how little you retain, especially of the things you just weren't seeing back then. troubling and probably unresolvable?
