[ARCHIVED] The heavy wood doors creak open to reveal a circular atrium. The place smells of old books and lemon furniture polish. Copper pipes wind across the walls and disappear into the ceiling. A distinct “tip—tip—tap” echoes through the room. You find that the source of the sound is an antique typewriter sitting on a dark wood desk near the edge of the room. The typewriter’s user pauses, stares at the page with narrowed eyes, then glances up to you. “Oh! Hello! I didn’t even hear you come in,” the typist says with a smile. “Please—feel free to look around! I’m here if you have any questions.”

Writeblr Connects 2.0!

Hi everyone! It's been a while! But I have news I think writeblr would be interested in:

A developer friend and I are building a writing app.

We're also building a writing community on Discord because: A. We want to give writers the chance to connect wtih each other B. We want to build the app based on what writers actually want

TL;DR: The new community has all of Writeblr Connects' chaotic joy for writing and the focus on helping writers connect with each other. It's just under a different name and platform (Discord + website).

"Uh…how does this help me though?"

If you followed Writeblr Connects back in the day, you were probably looking for opportunities to connect with other writers and find solid writing advice.

If this is your first time hearing about Writeblr Connects, hi there—WC was a writeblr networking blog at its peak back around 2017/2018.

Now, we've got a whole new set of tools to build out features I couldn't build for WC originally. Take a look:

Those are screenshots of our writer database and our WIP database. (Those are also real members, so I've blurred out identifying info for privacy's sake). So you can find WIPs and other writers to connect with.

The best part? It's all automated (for submitting profiles/WIPs) and searchable.

It may be less ✨aesthetic✨ than the original WC pages. But, it's also a V1. If we have enough interest, we're up for building a proper custom page for it.

Then, on the Discord server, we're also:

Hosting write-ins every two weeks

Hosting brainstorming sessions every two weeks

Sharing writing memes and music playlists every Monday

Sharing excerpts of our work every Wednesday for WIP Wednesday

And of course, taking feedback from writers on what they want to see in the app. Here's an exchange from one of our alpha testers and Paul, my co-founder and the brains behind the app:

All this is the start of what we want to do.

This new community is open to ALL fiction writers who are 18 and older (the server isn't age-restricted due to content, but because we're not ready for the necessary legal wrangling around minors quite yet), regardless of genre.

hello and welcome to the writeblr library! this is a place where you can come and browse a wide collection of writing written by people on tumblr, including short stories, novels, poetry and other forms, all in a hopefully easy and accessible way.

my goal is to make writeblr a more accessible place — sometimes it can be hard to find wips on this hell site, and i’m in Dire Need TM of more wips to read, so i hope this would be an easier way to handle things!!

if a writer has a wip they want featured in the library, they fill out this form after reading the rules as best as they can. when they’ve done so, i’ll construct an “about the wip” post (like this example!) and post it here! with this, it’ll be added to a large masterlist of wips categorised by many different areas — if someone wants to read a fantasy/mystery book featuring poc rep by a poc author, for example, they’ll be able to find something like that using the tags!! it’s a handy system that might take a little getting used to but that i’m confident will work.

pinned will be a navigational post, complete with rules on submitting, the form to fill out to submit your wip, tags to search through, the masterlist of wips that have been submitted so far and anything else necessary. this should make things very easy to access and allow as many people to find / submit the wips they want !!

this is VERY new to me and i’m far from the best with technology or the hellsite that is tumblr, so if there’s anything that needs changed or could be better, please let me know! i’m only one person ( hi, it’s nox/dante from @doriians btw! ) and have a l o t on my plate, so any feedback would be helpful!

i really do hope this is useful to people and that people find locating wips by others easier through this!! all wips are incredible and even if nothing else, i’ll certainly benefit from having somewhere to read all about incredible wips and maybe even make a few friends out of this too!! feel free to reblog this to get word around — i’m awful at promoting shsksh!!
