Turn the light out, say goodnight No thinking for a little while Let’s not try to figure out everything at once It’s hard to keep track of you falling through the sky We’re half awake in a fake empire We’re half awake in a fake empire
The National, “Fake Empire”
Sometimes, some bands make their way into your life repeatedly and you don’t really know why or how. Tiger Lou is one of those bands for me; somehow I can trace my relationship with them all the way back to 2007, the first time I heard “Sam, as in Samantha”. And then, well, through to a show that happened almost by accident, to a weird breakup and one of their songs on repeat for days when I was trying to start again; to last night, seeing them play after so many years and wanting to cry all the way through.
If there is such a thing as marriage, it takes place long before the ceremony; in a car on the way to the airport; or as a gray bedroom fills with dawn, one lover watching the other; or as two strangers stand together in the rain with no bus in sight, arms weighed down with shopping bags. You don’t know then. But later you realize—that was the moment.
Simon Van Booy, Love Begins in Winter
Someone can be madly in love with you and still not be ready. They can love you in a way you have never been loved and still not join you on the bridge. And whatever their reasons you must leave. Because you never ever have to inspire anyone to meet you on the bridge. You never ever have to convince someone to do the work to be ready. There is more extraordinary love, more love that you have never seen, out here in this wide and wild universe. And there is the love that will be ready

Fiction is one of the few experiences where loneliness can be both confronted and relieved. Drugs, movies where stuff blows up, loud parties -- all these chase away loneliness by making me forget my name's Dave and I live in a one-by-one box of bone no other party can penetrate or know. Fiction, poetry, music, really deep serious sex, and, in various ways, religion -- these are the places (for me) where loneliness is countenanced, stared down, transfigured, treated.
David Foster Wallace
Courage is grace under pressure.

Sure as the rain will fall Some love just fails without reason There is nothing you can do There is nothing you can do There is nothing you can do There is nothing you can do

new Keaton Henson album stream
Keaton Henson has a new moniker and a new album.
One of the best memories I have of 2007 is listening to this song over and over again in the Norwegian woods.
New Daughter song and pretty (sad) video. Excited about the upcoming album in January.
On Tuesday, September 15th, at 5 p.m. EST, astronauts Serena Auñón, Cady Coleman, Samantha Cristoforetti, plus NASA chief scientist Ellen Stofan will be stopping by Skunk Bear HQ – and I’ll be asking them your questions live on Periscope and SnapChat (user: nprnews)!
Submit your questions here or tweet #NPRSpaceJam.
Cady Coleman has been to space three times, once spending 158 days aboard the International Space Station. While on earth, she set several endurance and tolerance records when she participated in tests of new equipment. She plays flute in Bandella, a musical group made up of astronauts. Here, I’ve depicted her zero-gravity hair-do.
Serena Auñón hasn’t been to space … yet. She was selected in 2009 as a member of the 20th NASA astronaut class. She has a bachelors degree in electrical engineering, a doctorate in medicine, and a masters in public health.
Samantha Cristoforetti is the first Italian in space, the woman who has stayed in space the longest (199 days) and the first person to brew espresso in space. She’s a fighter pilot in the Italian Air Force and speaks fluent Italian, English, Russian, German, and French.
Ellen Stofan is the Chief Scientist of NASA, advising the administrator on all things scientific. She is especially interested in the geology of other planets.

You get mixed messages because I have mixed feelings.
