i've been working on this painting for over 3 months and i am exhausted 💀 so excited to be done with it. i'm really proud of it though!! it's definitely the most detailed painting i've done in quite some time.

Honestly, I remember watching that when I was like fourteen? And thinking "oh a drunk mistake". Now as an adult I'm horrified it didn't even occur to me that it was sexual assault.

Like I dunno if the writers were trying to show that a man can be a victim or if they were downplaying it?? It haunts me—

It also probably doesn't help that it's been a hot minute since I've seen it and I don't remember the details of the events following it as well.

#anyway now that i'm an adult and its a little harder to brainwash me into thinking some things arent that big a deal #purposefully befriending someone that is grieving and lost then getting them drunk so you can take advantage of them? THATS RAPE #tom branson was a victim and he deserved to be treated as such #tw rape

I think part of what makes heartstopper so good is because it’s written as a backstory.

Alice already had nick and Charlie as an established loving supportive couple written as background characters in tori spring’s story (solitaire)

This isn’t a story of will they won’t they or even a dramatic story of getting together. We already know they end up together. And we know they stay together happily. Instead, Heartstopper is an exploration of how this couple built their strong and beautiful relationship starting from when they met. Alice has said that the “getting together” part of relationship stories is the least interesting part in their opinion.

And I think that mentality is what makes the story so rich and meaningful. It’s the story of how a healthy long term relationship is built over time and how it grows.

I love Nick and Charlie’s story. And I hope it can model a healthy relationship to young people out there who-like I did- subconsciously learn a lot by watching tv and movies.
