Nepeta X Karkat

*Author’s Note: I recommend listening to Pandora’s “A Drop in The Ocean” radio station while reading.

Nepeta

            Nepeta slowly opened her eyes to the bright morning sunlight shining in from the window in the roof of her cave. Karkat lay sleeping peacefully beside her and she marveled at how sweet he looked when he was asleep. She blushed thinking about everything that happened that night and how amazing it had been with him.

She had walked blindly forward slowly letting Karkat’s hand on her back guide her in the right direction.

“Okay, Nepeta, you can look.”

When she had opened her eyes the sight before her was incredible. Her cave was glowing with hundreds of candles everywhere and in the middle of the room was a table covered in the best looking food Nepeta had ever seen. Karkat had been so quiet and nervous, but it was the most wonderful thing Nepeta had ever seen.

            After dinner had been even better as they had expressed their love for each other without any words. Karkat promised that he would always take care of and protect her. She couldn’t help feeling as though the entire world had been set right.

            “Good morning,” Karkat mumbled pulling Nepeta back on top of him and holding her tightly.

            “Good morning,” she sighed contentedly against his chest holding him back.

            She couldn’t help the feeling of pure joy and warmth that she felt snuggling with her beautiful matesprit. Out of all the shipping she had done over the years and all of the ones that worked out she knew that this was the only one that really mattered to her; because, he was her everything. She would never need to search for a matesprit again because, she was his, and that made the world a brighter place.

            “Nepeta?” Karkat said suddenly interrupting her thoughts and squeezing her a little tighter so, that she was almost uncomfortable.

            “Mhmm?” She wondered what he was thinking about that made him so tense all of the sudden.

            “I know that the humans are pretty stupid and everything, and I’m not sure how it would work within the quadrants, but I was wondering…”

            “Yes?” she questioned confused.

            “Would you human marry me?”

  Karkat

            There he had finally asked. He had wanted to make sure she knew how much he loved her before he asked and that was why he had set up everything last night. He had meant to ask her before they went to bed but everything had gone so well that he couldn’t work up the courage to ruin it if things went badly when he did ask. However, this morning when he had woken up to see her blushing at him with so much happiness he knew that he had to ask her. Now if only she would answer instead of staring at him with her beautiful mouth hanging open like that.

“Fuck Nepeta it would be nice if you could give me an answer one way or the other. I mean I’m obviously hoping that you’ll say yes but, don’t leave me…” And Nepeta cut him off with a kiss. Damn her mouth felt so good against his he wished he never had to stop kissing her. “Is that a yes?” He asked a little breathless from the kiss.

“Yes!” She pounced on him again kissing him until they were both completely out of breath.

John X Dave

John

Dave

            He had arrived early. After all if he didn’t then John would probably try to set up some kind of stupid prank. Not that he really minded, but he didn’t want to mess up his rad new suit. Sure enough as soon as he got there he saw John screwing around on the roof. He decided he would pull his own prank on John and moved around to the back of the house. He pulled Unreal Air out of his sylladex riding it up to the roof. He hopped off letting the ironic piece of shit float off, and started sneaking up behind John. John got so focused when he was working on something. It was kind of cute. Then the bumbling idiot went tumbling over the edge of the roof.

            “Shit!” Dave ran over to the edge of the roof grabbing John’s shirt. “Gotcha!”

            “Dave?” John looked up then proceeded to fall out of his shirt.

            “Dammit Egbert!” Dave jumped off the edge of the building. He grabbed John and pulled one of the 90 ironic pieces of shit from his sylladex. It appeared beneath them causing Dave to sit down hard on the board. He pulled John into his lap holding him there tightly.

            “Ow! Dave that hurts!” Dave loosened his grip a little letting John breathe. After all it wouldn’t be good if he had saved him only to kill him himself.

            “Egbert you are such a fucking idiot! What the hell were you thinking?” They were starting to float above the roof now so, Dave grabbed John in his arms and jumped off the board.

            “Sorry… I didn’t think the roof was going to be that slippery.”

            “You live in the land of wind and shade! Everything is slippery! Why don’t you think for once? One day I may not be around to save you, John.” Dave walked down the stairs and into the house still holding John in his arms. He walked into the living room and sat down on the couch pulling John back onto his lap. John was pointedly not looking at Dave staring fascinatedly at a spot on the floor.

            “Look at me John.” John shook his head a smile starting to form on his face. “John!” John shook his head again, but he was fully smiling now. “Fine, if you don’t want to look at the fine piece of art that my face is then you’re missing out.” John started to laugh looking up at Dave. Dave kissed him smiling against his mouth. Pulling away Dave saw some blood on the side of John’s face. He didn’t want to freak John out, but he was afraid it might be pretty deep.

            “Hey dude you might wanna go clean up you’ve a pretty gnarly gash on the side of your face man.” John reached up and touched the side of his face then looked at the blood on his fingers.

            “Okay do you think you could get me some water though I’m really thirsty?”

            “I suppose that I could bring you some water since you are almost as attractive as my amazing self.” Dave helped John stand up, but when John started to wobble he picked him up and carried him to the bathroom sitting him down on a stool in front of the mirror before going to retrieve the water as promised.

John

            Wow his face was kind of rough looking. He hoped Dave didn’t mind. Using a wash cloth he washed off all of the blood. The cut was about an inch long, but it wasn’t deep. He opened the medicine cabinet pulling out the gauze wrap and pad. Dave walked in, carrying a glass of water and handed it to John.

“Dude, being sick is not sick.” Dave rummaged through a drawer for a minute, pulling out some antiseptic. Dave pulled the gauze out of his hands. John closed his eyes as Dave pushed back his hair, applying the antiseptic. It felt good to have Dave taking care of him. When Dave finished wrapping the gauze around his head, he looked up and kissed him. Dave’s kisses were always surprisingly gentle considering how tough he seemed, and he really liked that. Then he realized that Dave was talking to him.

“Earth to Egbert. Didn’t you say you had some awesome movie I needed to see?”

“Oh yeah! It’s totally awesome. In this one, Nic like totally saves the day…”

“You know Egbert, sometimes you make me jealous of people I haven’t even met. Not that I would possibly have any real competition.”

“Well you did kind of save me today.”

“Yeah well I am pretty heroic and all. How about in return for my saving of your plush rump, you make us some of that mind blowing popcorn that is worthy of a god. Namely me.”

“Okay, will you put the movie in? It’s on top of the player.”

Dave

He found the movie, put it in the player an turned on the TV. Then he walked over to the hall closet and pulled out a blanket. John always got cold when they were watching a movie. He sat down, stretching out on the couch. John came in with the popcorn.

“There’s no room for me.” John said looking at the full couch.

“Of course there is! Right here on my incredibly lush lap.”

John smiled, “but I won’t be able to watch the movie if I have something stabbing me the whole time!”

“Sit down Egbert!” John sat down leaning back into Dave with the popcorn in his lap. Reaching over, Dave pulled the blanket over John’s legs and grabbed a handful of popcorn.

“You know if you keep eating my popcorn like this, you’re going to get fat.”

“Not on your life, Egdork. I have abs of steel.”

“Uh huh…” The started the movie and after the first few minutes, John was asleep. Sitting the popcorn on the floor, Dave pulled the blanket up, further wrapping his arms around John. The he too fell asleep, and the stayed together all night.

Mindfang X Summoner

Mindfang

            The wait was almost over which was good because, she knew that soon her life would be over, given to the Summoner. She placed her hands protectively on her stomache. Feeling a kick she smiled a tear falling down her cheek. “I hope you survive little one,” she said out loud.

Summoner

            He was letting his depression get the better of him again. He knew that he should move on. Intel told him that no one had heard from her is months, but he couldn’t make himself believe she was dead. Wouldn’t he feel something if his matesprit had died? There was a meeting tonight with one of their spies and he was trying not to get his hopes up. After being let down so many times he knew it would only cause pain.

Dolorosa

            Being in the middle of a war was not fun, but at times it had its advantages. Even though Mindfang had told her not to let the Summoner know she was alive, but he needed to know. Since she had gone in to hiding the rebellion was falling apart. With the leadership distracted their attacks seemed halfhearted at best and their numbers were dwindling. It was just like a man to let everything fall apart. What he needed was something to fight for and she was going to give it to him with the hopes that he could put an end to this war.

Summoner

            The Dolorosa walked in escorted by two of his guard. She was allowed on their base as she was in part the reason for this war, but only with caution.

“What brings you to us, Dolorosa? You seem to have been making yourself scarce lately.”

“I have been helping a friend who wishes not to be found at the moment. If you would allow for some privacy then perhaps we could  give you some information that you have been searching for.”

            The guards would not know what she was referring to because he and Mindfang had needed to keep their relationship a secret. He was so desperate for news that he did not care if this was a trap. If they had captured her then maybe he could do something about it. And if not, if she was gone, well then there was something that he could do about that too.

“They are gone,” he replied after the guard reluctantly left. They knew he was different lately and were worried about him, but they would not directly disobey him. Not yet anyway.

“She is safe. For now.”

“No one is safe at the moment.”

“While what you say is true, she is safer than most at the moment.”

“Where is she?” He collapsed to the floor, the determination that had been keeping him going leaving all at once. His voice was a plea accompanied by the tears streaming down his face.

“I can’t tell you that. Her current condition would make it very dangerous for anyone to know, and telling you now would change things that will come.”

“So, she has seen the future then?”

“Many, but this is one that is important for the cause and cannot be disrupted.”

“Why? Why does this future mean that she must stay away from me?”

“It is something that has to be for the moment.”

“You don’t know do you?”

“No, I believe that she thinks that if I know it will change the way things play out. Now I must go she will need me soon and she will wonder where I am.”

“She knows that you are here,” he said standing up, “otherwise she would have told you.”

“Still she will need me. I must get back to her soon.”

“Will you at least tell her I love her?”

“As you said, she knows.” She placed her hand on his shoulder then turned walking out the door.

Mindfang

            “I love you too!” she thought trying to send the message to him. It was impossible she knew, they were so far apart, it may as well have been worlds. It was a good thing that the message would never reach him though.

            She had known the Dolorosa would not be able to keep this secret when she had asked for her help however, she was grateful for the help. Dolorosa would not be back in time to help. She had known that when she let her go. The message needed to be given and she could do this on her own. She had not realized how painful this would be though.

            Alone she quietly struggled for hours. She pushed for hours until finally she pushed out the small blue grub that was hers. The grub started to cry and so did she.

  Dolorosa

            When she got back Mindfang was gone, but on the bed lay a small from wrapped in an orange blanket. She picked up the grub holding her as she slept. Seeing a not on the table, she picked it up and began reading.

Summoner

            It was time to end this war. The sooner this war was over the sooner they could be together again. His fire was back and although it was not for the same reason he was ready to give everything he had. He got the men ready to move out and they left.

            As they moved he began to feel uncertain. After the Dolorosa had left he could hear Mindfang tell him that she loved him, but why wait so long? She wouldn’t be there. He was going crazy; she had been gone for months and wouldn’t show up for this battle. At least he hoped that she would not be.

            His men continued to march prepared to attack an opposing batch of troops about equal in size that were guarding a small base. It wasn’t much, but that base would contain weapons and food. Suddenly his men stopped moving around him. Pushing to the front lines he saw her. At first she seemed alone to him; he was blinded to the army lining up behind her. Realizing that she was not alone he assessed the opposing army out of habit. They were at least the size of his troops, but not much bigger if any. Then she disappeared and the two armies turned into chaos around him charging at each other.

            He began running. He couldn’t lose her again, not again. He felt her control on him, making him run to her. He didn’t want to fight it though and let it consume him. When he finally stopped running she was there smiling at him with tears running down her face. His lance was halfway through her crest and only he was holding her upright.

“Why?” his voice cracked not wanting to believe what was happening.

Then she showed him, all of her thoughts and memories pouring into his head telling him why. She showed him how much she loved him. Why she hid. Then it all stopped and the Summoner cried holding her in his arms.

Epilogue

            It was a few weeks later and the summoner walked into his room. A small crib sat in front of his bed, orange blankets peeking over the side. Looking into it he saw a grub with two beautiful blue eyes.
