               A sleeve covered Zane’s smile. “He’s a brat,” he said immediately, but his tone was nothing but affection, and it ended with a single exhaled giggle.

     He lowered his hands to twist them on the table, watching his fingers entangle in each other. “He’s my brother,” he said, almost like a prayer. “I know he’s not all I’ve got -- you know, I have Dad, and Snifit, and y’know -- but.” He swallowed. “No one’s like Stiles.”

     He couldn’t say how much Stiles meant to him. There weren’t words for that. There was no believing the almost supernatural way they were connected, the way they shared dreams and knew each other’s thoughts and could feel each other from across literal alternate dimensions.

     Maybe it was trauma -- Mom’s death, Dad getting kidnapped, and then Void -- but Zane liked to think it wasn’t. If he tried hard enough, he could almost remember that it was like that before Mom died. But memories aren’t like video cameras, and he could’ve just made it up. He likes the thought anyway.

               “Dad?” the two queried simultaneously, then they glanced at each other.

          “I mean, where do we even start?” Stiles scoffed. “He’s a workaholic, for one. And he’s damn good at his job, so I guess it pays off. This town would be toast without him. He’s like, the Scott McCall of the human world.” He mouth twitched in an awkward sort of grimace. That sounded weird.

          “We’re a bit much for him,” Zane picked up, a fond little smile on his mouth. “But he’s better at handling us than anyone else. He even sort of gets Stiles to do things he doesn’t want to sometimes.”

     Stiles guffawed overdramatically. “Well, he also tries to get you, even though like no one is equipped to do that.” Much to his dismay, Zane just shrugged, still smiling like he knew that was infuriating. “And he even sort of tries to take care of Snifit.”

          “And kudos for not killing my boyfriend,” Zane added.

          “Our boyfriends,” Stiles agreed. Then he just gave up and grinned. “I know everyone thinks their dad is the best dad, and I’m not gonna be that loser that says ‘well it’s true!’ but. He’s the best dad that we could ever have.”

     Zane grinned at that conclusion, but after a moment, he added, “We should put that on a mug.”

          Zane’s cheeks are turning bright pink as long arms circle around his frame. Isaac Lahey thinks I’m cute, he even thinks in a hushed, incredulous whisper. Nerves clench in his stomach, and Zane chews his bottom lip.

               “Can... we m-make out now?” He blush deepens even as he speaks.
