“no,” alice says with haste. “i was early, and thought i’d get started while i was waiting.” it wasn’t a lie, though it could be interpreted as alice having been early by coincidence. that was far from the truth - she’d wanted to be early. “ah, thank you. yes, i could definitely use some practice with the choreography. you’re a better dancer than me, so if you have any pointers, please don’t be shy. i want to impress with our performance.”
Daeun feels strangely pleased with the reply, and she feels the corner of her lips lifting slightly in a tentative smile. She’s fully aware that Alice is higher in the hierarchy here even though they are both trainees. Alice still has five years of training more than Daeun, but because she’s older, she can’t go against the feeling that maybe, if they keep this up, they can make it work very well. She catches herself before her misplaced feeling of pride shows up too strong and nods her head. “Sure! It’s not that simple of a routine, I feel, and because it’s only the two of us, we need to make it look like we’re filling the stage, so what I had in mind is that we should deliver the steps sharply but make it look effortless,” she fumbles with her words for a little and she moves her hands to maybe try and help herself out, but it does nothing.
So, she stands, and even though she’s not warmed up properly yet, Daeun positions herself in front of the mirror but still a little bit further away from Alice. Her hands rest on her hips, and she takes a deep breath. “Like in the chorus, when we go getaway out of my face, don’t come to any closer boy,” and Daeun follows the lyrics with the choreography that is not painted in her mind and stops at a certain move. She looks down at her legs then up again towards Alice, “see? I’m not slacking, and it looks clear and sharp, but not like I’m trying too hard. I would like if the judges said we look light, so that’s the goal.”
her voice echoed through the practice room as her nose met her knee in a deep split. she wasn’t the strongest dancer, but she was very flexible. flexibility could be learned, after all, and had been a part of her training regimen for better than a decade. she’d had her first acro lessons at five. “i told you not to be deceived/, that the moment you take this hand, it’ll be dangerous now you’re bleeding, but are you still attracted? you clearly know but why are you staring at me?”
For all that matters, Daeun was glad that she wasn’t doing this by herself. Most of the time, she would have loved to do her thing alone, and not be bothered by others’ skills and limitations. She knows how far she can push herself, and she’s willing to go further if that means she will deliver a good performance. This time around, though, she was happy to have Alice with her.
Of course, they aren’t the closest. Daeun doesn’t like the idea of making friends just feels like she has been stabbed in the back whenever they debut, and she’s left to practice more. She likes the simplicity of being alone and working around that. But every since they were told about Select, performing in front of a large group of people she had never seen before, just makes her feel more at ease. If not for support, then they just could use each other to look better for the public.
The practice rooms at Rox Entertainment are well sealed, but when she approaches the place they’ll spend their evening, she can already hear the sound of her colleague’s voice. She opens the door, and Daeun is pleased that Alice seems to be a lot more serious about this than she gave her credit for. “Hey, sorry. Am I late?” she asks as she leaves her bag on the floor near the door and starts to tie her hair up in a ponytail. “Sounds like you have the lyrics well memorized already. Do you want to go through the choreography today?”

Daeun is the oldest child of three. She has two younger siblings. A sister of 18 and a brother of 16.
Her mother passed away when she was ten years old, and from then on, she was like the responsible grownup of the house. Her father was too much of a mess, having lost his wife and his job around the same time.
She used to live in Seoul, but because they lost most of their money, they all moved to Tongyeong, her father's hometown.
Daeun used to help in every way she could. She would run errands for the neighbors, help kids with their math homework, whatever she could to get extra money.
Nothing more happened in the eight years between moving to a smaller town and Daeun auditioning. She worked odd jobs, helped in restaurants, and looked after her siblings. Her father never managed to pay his debt, the same old.
When she graduated high school in 2016, she moved back to Seoul with the money she saved from all that time and started auditioning like crazy everywhere until someone picked her up. That's how she ended in Diamond Label.
She is an amazing singer and an amazing dancer, and she can learn pretty much anything very fast, as long as it's not charisma-based. She's not the person who'll do well in variety shows unless she's trying very hard to be likable (that's how she's keeping her rank during Select! By trying very hard to not be a bitch).
She later moved to Rox Entertainment since Diamond went down in the business, and that's where we find her now. She has been training for five years now, and she's starting to doubt her ability to debut, so she's preparing herself to do something that earns her some money.
PLOT IDEAS
Daeun is very competitive, and because she was used to working by herself, her methods might be a bit too abrasive, but trust me, she means the best by her actions, even if she's harsh. So, I'm calling all the Select! girls who might need some help of some sort, and she would be the happiest to help if you don't mind her being a little bit too much of a perfectionist.
People who might have known her from before everything went to shit when she was younger. Childhood friends who never got in touch after everything happened and someone who kept in touch with her and kind of inspired her to pursue a career in the entertainment world.
