ROBIN DOESN'T KNOW WHAT MADE HER SAY IT ALOUD, besides her newfound resolution to be herself entirely -- even especially in the halls of hawkins high, where the monster rears its head the loudest. NANCY WHEELER is another rung on the endless ladder of a self - appointed social pool, princess of suburbia, the kind of well - crafted sweetness that sweeps away a childhood best friend. ( which is, like, fine. she's cool about it. they were kids and they had started to drift apart anyway. though, where barb has sequestered to now remains a haunting mystery. ) she hitches her shoulders in a shrug, allows her mouth to tug into that crooked half - grin where one corner arcs slightly higher than the other, because she thinks it's kind of funny how nancy bristles. “ what do you think that is? ” SELF-PERCEPTION SO OFTEN CHANGES TO MIRROR THE OUTSIDE: society is ruinous. robin plants her chin atop slanted knuckles, watches the journey of creases across her classmate's face. a laugh unravels into a exhale through her teeth before it can even titter.

“ ... yeah, okay. ” and no, robin can't exactly blame nancy for not remembering her. NOTICING HER. even if she recalls crying in a movie theater bathroom and the awkward usher that tried to comfort her, or the sophomore that ran like a bat out of hell on prom night, that perm is long gone and her choppy strands now tickle the tops of her shoulders if she moves her head in a certain way, so, --- yeah, robin would deem herself pretty unrecognizable. to everyone but her own self. PEU IMPORTE ! amusement lingers with a slight shine in cobalt gaze as she raises her chin to thrust her hand, straight - fingered, across the table. “ i'm robin. your research partner. ” high school just keeps throwing curve balls. her smile twitches a little, her own brows beginning to crease ( albeit, minimally in comparison ) sheepishly. “ speaking of -- you're kind of hoarding the notes. not that i'm complaining, they're yours and i'm not stealing, obviously, but ... you know. ”
