Helping kids with cancer
I am giving back on my birthday to KidzCan in Harare, Zimbabwe. When I called them and asked what they needed most they said a donation would help them buy blood which directly saves kids lives. Why don't you give something on your birthday too!

Be nice to me - I gave blood
I learnt about What The Birthday a few months ago. I remember being told about this idea of giving back to the world on your birthday. I really liked this idea and the more I heard the more inspired I got to do exactly that. Ideas such as planting a tree by a well so people could wait in the shade to collect water, going to visit homeless shelters or old age homes or going and donating blood were all suggested and the last one stuck out to me.
I have always been absolutely terrified of needles! I cry, I go pale and have felt wobbly and light headed on more than one occasion. But something about going to give blood as a thank you to the world for giving me 24 wonderful years seemed to make it all a little less scary. So I went off to the national blood transfusion centre where I was greeted by 2 very friendly nurses. I read a pamphlet, I answered a few questions on a form, I had my finger pricked (not sore at all thanks to an automated machine they now have) and then had a pint of blood drawn. Afterwards I was given a cup of tea and cup cake and strolled out happy!
I feel so grateful that I was introduced to this wonderful idea of giving back and I hope that my story can inspire someone to do the same just as I was inspired!
